I've been thinking of this cat all along as this shit has played out. I woke up to the Machine a few months before my 30th birthday roundabout the peak of the military Surge in 2005. I was 75% through a yearlong tour of the sandbox (OIF 2/3) as an Army National Guard Sergeant. I was in the famous Town Hall in Udairi, Kuwait in Dec 2004 when Rumsfeld told us, when pressed for why we were driving soft sided HMMWVs and scrounging for up-armoring scrap to slap together some homecooked bootsy ass IED protection, and sending kids to Landstuhl then Walter Reed...minus legs. And after driving past 1,000 fully armored rigs locked in a storage yard, awating the conitract payment OK from Congress, and the fuel got cut off by the Kuwaitis over the same boondoggle money games, between suits and sheiks and bought and paid for Civil "Servants" who were playing politics for fun and prizes... ...while Specialist Jackson, who was moving back into his mom's spare room with his physical therapy gear, was playing "How do we pronounce that letter again?' with the speech therapist teaching a 24 year old how to sound out the alphabet again. And that cocksucker told the Tennessee Guardsman a few rows over from me who asked the question: "Son, we go to war with the Army we have...not the one we want or would like to have" Bullshit. Contracts flowing FAT money. Offered me $168k for a year of very simple work if I wanted to come back after deployment, High school buddy said "No way....hold out for $200+ and no active combat zone. Simple math tells me this was an insane amount of money Just for sticking around and not because of mad skills. I talked to my Vietnam Vet uncle about it in a call home and he named off the sane fucking companies doing the same exact shit and serving him in 67/68 at Da Nang. Another "Clear and Present Danger" war like that old Gulf of Tonkin outrage "THEY" did to us,,,so that Standard Oil could navigate the sea and not have to feel guilty about all the FREEDOM they were squandering to themselves. Or yellowcake threats from Niger being the "smoking gun that turns into a mushroom cloud" (y'all remember that coordinated line, synchronized all over the airwaves and talking heads), Or the Ether Bunny, Or some fat guy in a flying sleigh, coming down the chimney only to meet Chris Hansen saying "Why don't you have a seat over there, @ChubbyBearBoy6969". That's why the brass all watched only FOX But then I saw the same lie doubled down on FOX Journalist called bullshit on yellowcake uranium story and the Vice robot heart de-facto President skipped duck hunting and instead found a way to get back at that reporter for doing his JOB and serving WE the PEOPLE by literally outing that reporter's wife...an undercover CIA operative (which burned her team as well...this is how people fucking DIE) And Scooter Libby went to jail while he put on orange reflective camo and went duck hunting without a Nintendo. Duck....Duck....DUDE! HIt his limit on human face tags drawn.. Day's over, Time for some single malt by the bearskin rug. And wen I mentioned this in the unit, an E-8 actually it paper on me asking the commander to write me up for Sedition, Not kidding. And it was only then, on the eve of my 30th year alive, father of a now 9 year old (I had left a 7 year old), that I would start to understand why my late Uncle shared Gil Scott Heron albums with me as a little guy in the early 80s. And more of these voices as I grew older and my context cup blossomed. I still didn't get it. I thought I did. By the fall of 2005....I got it. I stuck it out and retired from the next 13 years after the deployment in my story after juming services and flying an Air Force Special Operations MC-130P variant on the Search and Rescue mission. I kept traveling and seeing deeper don the rabbit hole,. boosting my clearance and intensity level and working with several Tier ne organiztions from across the western nations. I retired in Feb 2020 just in time to get the next load of billsit stuffed in my face. That boy of mine is 26 now. He has his own copies of these albums and more like them. On vinyl. Bought by ME. And he "gets it" even more clearly than I ever did.. I suppose that's hope? Some? I did what I could there. Hope y'all are doinig similar. I'll be 48 this year. I'm not the future and I'm not even sure what planet this is most of the time anynore. Get the Zoomer generation some vinyl. ANd give them your time and attention to give them the context theu need to HEAR what's on that vinyl. Spend worthless dollars for the records....HODL your other "coin".
