This is easily the simplest and most elegant 3D printed tourbillon design I've seen. It's what, 22 parts including bolts and nuts? Very impressive :)

Pretty impressive and satisfying to watch. I don't even have a 3D printer, and I watched it all. Great stuff.

could this be made on larger scale, and made to attach to a roll of filament inside a dryer on rollers and slowly rotate it using a weighted section of the outer ring?

Everything is possible. Only need time and resurses. If you will do this modification, let me know. I want to see it. 🙂

I am working on dialing in a new P1S and have printed these parts several times without success. We are going to try a new material (Bambu Labs Metal PLA) next. I am certain that my issue isn't print speed. I ran the whole plate at 15mm/s. I do keep the speed under 50mm/s throughout the print, running at 20 on the first layer. Specifically, the threads on the screws come out sketchy, and the shafts are all oversized. I'm cleaning out the holes with a drill bit, which helps, but the last print was too tight to move freely. I am hoping someone will have a suggestion for slicer settings (I have Prusaslicer, Orca, and Bambu Studio) to improve the accuracy of the holes/shafts. I am already working on: Consistent and relatively low print speed. I'm using 50mm max for outside walls, 75 on the inside Dry PLA Turned on "Precise Wall", which was not on the first time. Thank you for your time.

what is layer height? I suggest to low extrusion flow. (low it 5% to 10%)

Lovely design, I'm having a little bit of trouble getting it to actually function - the spring balance does not cause the balance weight to rotate back and forth. I think my issue is the step at 2:08. My impression is that the little 'nub' of the balance axis goes inside the 'fork'. It seems like your goal is to align the spring balance without any tension on it. I tried my best to do that, but the balance weight does not rotate. If you have any tips regarding this step in the assembly that would be great. My parts look 100% perfect, it printed quite well so I don't think it is a print issues.

After lots of tinkering, it's clear that the spring is just not powerful enough to spin the balance weight in my print. I scaled the following parts up to 105% and that fixed the issue: Cap_nut Spring_balance Balance_weight Balance_Axis Thanks again for this model, such an elegant design.

Yes, little 'nub' of the balance axis goes inside the 'fork'. Yes, spring balance without any tension on it. What material do you used for printing?

@@galvarankis For the moving parts and anything that might cause friction with moving parts, I used Bambu PLA, most of the housings are in Bambu PETG. It's working great after scaling the spring balance and everything it touches up 5%. I think the root issue was the balance axis had too much friction on the main axis (both are PLA).

@@baraka629 There's always one contrarian no matter what. I could say the sky is blue and your very core response would be to tell me 'Not all the time, what about the evening? That's orange. What about in other parts of the world?' etc.. etc... I'm right, this video should have shown more of it working. Instead we watch a whole video of it being made with a very anti-climactic result.

@@baraka629 What I said isn't contrarian though. It just isn't, it's a true statement and a criticism of the video which I and everyone else is entitled to. When people refute an obvious fact, and general statements with an anti-statement and ultra-niche situations as a point making factoid are contrarians. You just don't like the fact I criticised the video, that's it. I could have had any criticism and you wouldn't have liked it. Sit and have a think about your life will you.
