I’m not a huge fan of the way Eddie conducted himself in the pre-fight with Thor but damn. I can see why he had such a chip on his shoulder. Say what you want about him but he has integrity when it comes to competition and there are multiple examples to support this. He won fair and square, achieved his dream, and Thor took a big shit all over his trophy and never gave him the respect he earned. 2017 Eddie Hall was absolutely legendary and this is top 3 best WSM, imo.

Eddie was one of the no-doubters in WSM history. He won the squat, he won the Deadlift, and placed well in all the others. Guy was a very solid athlete throughout. But of all the guys there, he probably had the most static strength. The greatest strongman of the field was Martin Licis though. That little guy was only like 305 lbs or so, and he was keeping up with the 400+ lbs guys. I love it when little guys like that come around and keep things interesting. As for men who were so far ahead of their time... consider that Bill Kazmaer, one of the commentators, as he was in 1981 would have placed top 3 in this year's Squat and Dead lift events. The guy was confirmed to have pulled around 1000 lbs with straps, and squatted 950 lbs unequipped. And he was doing that at 320 lbs size. It's Ironic that in the early 80's he was considered above average size to average, and today he'd be one of the smallest ones. That's just how far steroids and diets have come. We understand so much more about how to pack on mass.

48:55 Brian has got to be in a lot of pain. He took 40 seconds on the stones he can normally get sub-30 on. Sometimes I wonder if Shaw would've won his 5th in 2017 just from not screwing up the hamstring. Oh well, just speculation, but you can agree that every strongman fan have ran scenarios in their heads of what little things the athletes could've done to win or place higher. like Thor winning 2014 bringing the squat suit, Z never getting the nerve injury and winning another Arnold and breaking 240kg log. Mateusz never tearing the tricep and winning wsm, Eddie not retiring at cutting to 175kg and win more Britain's, and my Favorite, Mike Jenkins never Passing, winning Wsm, pushing Z on log, and breaking records in the dumbbell and frame.

@@kawan3661 I say that eddie won fair and square with the events that came that year. The problem indeed is Bryce. Tailored 5 out of 6 events for Eddie so he could be the next british winner in like close to 30 years. Drag removed from the tyre and drag, atlas stone columns lowered and then 3 static events which all favour shorter people. The squat seemed awkward af for thor and brian cause they were the tallest ones there. All 3 events less range of motion for the shorter guy. Eddie set world record DL last year, hmm lets put max DL in + squat for reps and viking press cause eddie trains DL, Squat and shoulders 90% of the time and sucks ass in moving. Sure maybe they removed the drag from tyre flip and drag because uneven ground but fucking find some even ground then jesus its SUS af when you remove it legit few min before finals. If the drag was in eddie drops ATLEAST 1-2 places in that event and instead of winning by 1 point he will lose with like 1-3 points. But ye ofc having another brit win wsm was massive for the marketing considering how big strongman is in UK and US.

Also, in the tire flip event for example they don't tell us who's who and you can't tell who's in the last few lanes due to the long distance. Watchin the WSM final use to be such a treat, but this year it was really weird. It's unfortunate, because I think Eddie Hall's performance here was one of the most amazing feats in WSM history.
