The Fujifilm X-T30 punches well above its weight class. My wife and I visited Colorado at the end of last May. We brought our usual heavy load of camera and drone gear. I shot the full-frame Sony a7R iv (61MP sensor) and she used the Fuji X-T30. One of the shots we took at a ski resort was of a footbridge spanning a creek. It featured Bavarian architecture and tall trees on both sides of the stream, with partially snow covered mountains and Aspen trees in the background. It just happened that we took separate photos with similar compositions. I was flabbergasted as I compared the two images in Capture One. Unless I was pixel peeping, I could not tell one camera from the other after matching their white balances. Keep in my that my Sony and Sigma lens combination costs four time more than the X-T30/18-55mm kit. As mentioned in this review, the video quality from the X-T30 is outstanding. I love the color and film-like footage this camera produces on its default settings. Many cameras (Sony, I'm looking at you) over sharpen and saturate their video. The X-T30 nails both, and is great at exposure, too. As noted, one downside of this camera is its small body. My wife got so frustrated with accidently pressing rear-panel buttons that I disabled nearly all of them, including the Q-Menu button. I added a grip extender with ARCA-Swiss plate to make it easier to hold and fasten to tripods. Other downsides are its small, low-resolution view finder and lack of IBIS. If you can afford it, step up to the X-T3, currently on sale in the US for $1,200. It has a larger, higher res viewfinder, better ergonomics, dual SD card slots and supports 60fps, 10-bit internal video. If you can make the stretch, go for the X-T4, which adds IBIS, a flip screen and an awesome shutter to that. However, the X-T30 does not sacrifice image quality. It uses the same sensor and processor as its bigger, more expensive and feature-packed brothers.

Well said Ben and totally agree. It really is a little beast of a camera for both photo and video, we love it. Interesting to hear the comparison with the Sony considering the price difference. And like you said the XT3 & XT4 certainly have some nice extra features which are totally worth it if you have the budget. Cheers for sharing your thoughts, we love hearing other peoples opinions after using the camera for a while. Thanks for watching and have yourself a nice week ✌

I've had the XT30 for 18 months and it is a great camera. Difficult to put it down as it's so tactile. I'm getting on a bit now in my late 70's but still enjoy learning all the things I didn't know or have forgotten and this camera is a lot of fun. Just like you two, it's adictive. Keep up the good work.

@@MacnTeensVisuals I have been using the X100V for two years now. TBH, as an amateur (self taught by reading and asking questions on forums) it has greatly improved my photography, which isn’t my opinion, its the opinion of camera forum members. I think it’s because the camera makes me think more, if that makes any sense. I would like to use the X-T30 because I have the 18 f2 and 35 f 1.4 lenses, and that’s the only weakness of the X100V, I can’t use them, and I didn’t take to the Converter Lenses. Hello hello!!! Trying to buy a camera for our travels/backpacking in a few months. Total newbie, never had camera before, but want to step up from a phone camera and learn the photography. Found it really overwhelming to decide on which one to get, for some reason really leaning towards fuji and I have heard so many good things about this camera. Of course this is how I've come around your channel. Would you recommend this camera or a different camera for a newbie as a travel camera? I'm torn between fuji xt30 or 2, Sony rx100, Canon powershot g7x and olympus EM 10 mk 4 with pancake kit. As well be living gout of the backpack, I don't want to have anything too expensive - having said that my max budget is £800/900 - but still take good photos. Sony and Canon - I like the small size, olympus has similar looks to fuji but is cheaper. Many thanks 🙏

Hey Simona sorry for the late reply. Totally understand there are so many choices It can be hard to know where to start haha We love our X-T30 it's a little beast of a camera as I'm sure you have heard us say already lol The video footage from the Fuji is stunning the film simulations really help give a nice look to the footage. The only issue you might have with the Fuji is that it doesn't have IBIS which is stabilisation so if you are walking around with the camera it will be very shaky. The Sony Rx100 range of cameras are great, they are small and have very nice video capability too plus the stabilisation for vlogging style or walking shots will be much better. The only thing with them is that you can't change the lens so for photography it won't be quite as good but it totally depends what you want to use it for exactly. The G7X is also another camera which is good for walking around and vlogging with but from what we have seen the autofocus probably isn't as good as the other cameras. It also doesn't allow you to change lenses so you will only have the built in lens. The EM10 from what we've seen is a great camera for video and vlogging etc It does allow you to change lenses so therefore will be a good camera for photography and video plus it has stabilisation too. It's a tough choice tbh haha We have only used one of the cameras but we have looked into the others before ourselves. The Fuji would have the best video quality out of those but if you want to walk around and vlog it won't really work for you. I think the RX100 range one maybe a Rx100 V or newer would be a great choice but it totally depends what way you want to film or if you want to take certain types of photos etc Hope that helps in some way :)

Bought the X-T3 with xf16-80 zoom a month ago, and returned it for a refund. I will be ordering the X-T30 Ii with the xf18-55 zoom. The biggest reason is the weight savings for travel, as it’s about a pound lighter. This setup with the xf35 is all I need.

Hey David. Oh that's interesting to hear, we actually haven't tried the X-T3 or that lens so didn't know how much weight difference there was. The X-T30 setup is really nice for travelling, you can easily fit the camera in your pocket when the lens is off. Heard great things about the 35mm hopefully we can get one to try at some point this year. Happy new year :)

Hi!!! Thank you for this long term review of the XT30. I have an XT3 but contemplating on selling/trading it and getting an XT30ii due to its compact form factor and the Classic Negative film sim. However, I'm having 2nd thoughts as I'd be losing the WR feature of the XT3. So, since you own both the XT3 and XT30, curiously, I was just wondering how the XT30ii held up if you had used it on dusty environments or extreme weather conditions (not that I'm going to be intentional in using the XT30ii in such circumstances but just wanted to know if dust particles didn't penetrate by your unit which may cause damage within its internal components) and if the XT3's WR feature's worth the sacrifice? Also came across a post where its glued leather covering started peeling off appearingly in a matter of only a few years. Has your copy began to peel as well? I'm actually just a hobbyist who mostly shoot family documentaries, travel, food and street. When I got the x100v and shot with the classic neg film sim, I just got hooked where it made me contemplate if I should rid off the XT3 and purchase the cheapest cam with the signature fujifilm dials on them. The weather here can be a bit dusty/smokey (polluted) and although rains do come often, it's quite easy to run for cover. Hoping to get your timely advice. Thank you.

Hey there! No problem hope it was helpful in some way. So honestly we have only used the camera in the rain a few times and it was for too long. We really look after our camera gear so we would not be the best people to ask haha We have got it quite wet a few times and it's been okay so far, never really used it in harsh dusty conditions etc. We have had no problems with the leather covering yet at all. Honestly If I was you I wouldn't trade the X-T3 for an X-T30II just because of one simulation but that is totally your decision. The X-T3 has quite a few extra features that for me make it a better camera than the X-T30II. But at the same time I do love the X-T30 it's a great little camera. The size difference is also pretty minimal so I don't think that would make a big difference to you. Hope that helps 👍

I mean we have only used the X-T30 out of those 3 and I think it was a great decision for us because we do both photo and video so obviously we wanted interchangeable lenses. The X100V and X-E4 seem like quite similar cameras but only the X-E4 can have interchangeable lenses so I think that is gonna be a big part of your decision. The X100V has some more features and is bigger too hold than the X-E4 so if you want something pocketable then the X-E4 would be the way to go. It totally depends what you use it for and how compact you want it to be really. 👍
