Your video is therapeutic for me. The calm vibe and voice has never failed to soothe my raging soul. It also inspires me to continue with photography even though I’m shooting everything with my iPhone 11. I saw an XE2 a while back that’s within my budget, but never went for it. It’s all because I find that I enjoy taking photos with my iPhone and there’s no need for a dedicated camera at the moment because I shoot for fun.

Really enjoyed the simplicity of my X-E-4 to the pont where I was going to put my XT-3 for sale. XE-4 with my 18-55 was my out the door kit. Then I started using my XT-3 again & the XE-4 is on hiatus. Better get it some exercise soon.

I tried both for some time and the deciding factor ended up being the feel of the shutter. The x100 has a leaf shutter- which has a bunch of advantages, but it also means that it is essentially silent and has no kick or haptic feedback, either. They include some sound effects so you can get a click or shutter sound when hitting the trigger, but they are really poor. Turns out I really like the sound and feel of a mechanical shutter, and I couldn't really get used to the x100v not having one, it just felt weird and unsatisfying taking photos. So I ended up with the X-E4, which has a mechanical shutter, and you can really sense a kick and sound when taking a shot, and I'm very happy with it. The sensors and film simulations in both cameras are the same, so the shots are same, it's all about the feel and utility of the camera, so it's well worth trying them out.

I fell in love with the X100. It's a mesmerizing little object and it makes you WANT to take photos. The look, the feel of its controls, its weight, the little optical viewfinder. Just perfect. But I went with the X-E4 because I can only afford one camera and I want to experiment with other prime lenses. It also has 90% of the charm of the X100 and has the potential to have 95% of the charm of the X100 with the addition of a fancy-pants silver FUJIFILM XF 35mm f/2 R WR lens attached.

Sold my x100v recently, never really liked that 35mm eqv. No regrets at all. In love now with my X-E4 with either XF16/2.8, 35/2 or 50/2. For leaf shutter and real compactness I do use my Ricoh GR3. x100v was never really compact enough.

XF27/2.8 (both versions) is just about the perfect focal length between the 23 and 35. Equiv. to the 40mm Summicron that Leica made for it's joint Leica/Minolta 'Compact Leitz' (CL) project back in the 70s, it's the 'sweet spot' for many of us and it makes for a super compact setup on the X-E4. (ALMOST as small as the Fuji X20 point and shoot was with the lens closed.) I had an X100V. It was my last effort to really love the X100 platform. I'd had the original and an F previous to that, but for as much as they offer the same excellent image quality that all my Fujis have, I always felt that it was too much $$ being tied up in a body that could only offer me a handful of similar focal lengths using the screw on Aux lenses and the Digital Conversion options. The X-E4 does EVERYTHING I wanted the X-100 for with the exception of not having a built in WR, OVF, ND, flash or leaf shutter...none of which I actually USED for as much as I thought I 'needed' them. If I WANT to be tied to just ONE focal length for a day of shooting so that I'm not crippled with indecision about which focal length to use, I always have that option by taking only ONE lens on the camera for the day. With the ILC, though I have the option to choose a DIFFERENT focal length tomorrow! (The 18/2, 27/2.8 and 35/1.4 are usually my favourites for walkabout with only ONE....even then I usually keep the Loawa 9/2.8 in my pocket just in case!) I much prefer being able to use every Fuji lens I have and with adapters just about ANY lens ever made for ANY camera on my X-E4 bodies. We are totally spoilt with nothing but really good choices in Fuji gear these days though and that's a good thing.

Hey in one of your videos -- I think it's this one but I'm not sure -- you had the great tip for the X100V that there is a setting in the menus to lock the exposure compensation dial to prevent it from being knocked accidentally (it's a problem a lot of people have noticed, including me...). Looking around the manual I discovered that if you use that lock you can unlock it quickly by holding down the "Menu/OK" button for a second or so. So, in other words, when you DO want to use the expo. comp. dial but you have locked it, you can just push and hold "Menu/OK" (you will see a response on the LCD screen after about a second) to unlock it. You don't have to dive a couple of layers into the menus to unlock. A nice little tip. Press "Menu/OK" for a second to relock it.

Great recommendation on Musicbed resource. 2 questions: 1) What’s the name of the songs you used on this video (just LOVE them)? 2) What’s you’re recommendation if I’m looking for better performance than my X100T’s AF, only 1 custom WB “slot”, short battery life, and if I’m looking to do more video with the ability to preview the video on articulating flip screen or using the Fuji app. I also have the XT-1 and it’s viewfinder orientation better suits my left eye dominance, but the images on my X100T are my favorites for documentary and environmental portraits. Sorry, long question #2.

If you are starting with photography - interchangeable lens system. If you are advanced using zoom system and want to challenge yourself - fixed lens system, preferably something with a built in lens like x100 so you don't have an option to change the lens. That's why the x100 lineup is so amazing, you have the amazing fuji recipes, compact form factor, fixed lens - all you have to do is grab the camera and start shooting, without thinking about anything else but capture the moment and enjoy photography at it's purest form. It's a detox camera.

  • @MacDeece

    @MacDeece

    Жыл бұрын

I’m not sure if I agree. I would say that it obviously depends on what you want it for, but from my own experience, using a fixed lens system as a beginner I believe is more simple and more inspiring to the novice photographer. It takes all of the guesswork out of photography setups. I had an a6000 and constantly thought I should buy a bigger lens than my 33mm because I thought my lack of zoom options was limiting me, but I wasn’t able to afford one, and so I tried my hand with photography and gave up because I believed that good photographers are only so good because they have all the expensive gear to take great photos. In believing this, I forgot one of the most basic rules of photography, that being that your eye (instinct) is more important than the objective quality of your photos. If you give an experienced photographer an iPhone 4 camera, and a total newcomer the best setup going, the newcomer will most likely have the best overall quality of images, but the photos captured by the experienced photographer will have more character, as the experienced photographer knows how to frame a photo and what subjects to photograph to tell a bit of a story or communicate an emotion or message. The number one thing that new photographers must do is take photos, and I believe the easiest way to do this is by reducing the total number of variables from their setup, so they are forced to be creative with their framing and subjects. When I got my camera I was somewhat paralysed by all of the settings, variable zoom, etc., and so I was always so focused on what I was doing wrong, when I should have just been going out and having fun taking photos, and learning along the way. Of course, everyone’s circumstances will be different, and their needs will be different, but I think newbies should focus on finding a setup that makes it as easy as possible for them to enjoy photography, and thus makes them want to go out on a walk or into a city just to see what they can capture - whether this is with a tripod, interchangeable lenses and a plethora of settings to adjust, or a fixed lens system with minimal adjustable settings. Even if it’s just a smartphone camera, as long as they’re enjoying the experience and happy with their results, that is a good enough place from which to build their interest in this hobby, and from this, potentially their career. Cheers, Harry

Thank you for a well presented presentation of an understandable quandary for many. I was about to subscribe to your channel, but initially thought it worthwhile to comment that the extra cost of adding a lens to the X-E4 brought it close in price to the X100V. I therefore thought it was a shame that a responder to my comment felt it necessary to imply that I might be a "snot ball" for voicing that opinion. He himself claims to have what is probably more than £7,000 worth of kit, which would quite likely imply that he really isn't in the same position as those contemplating your topic. Such comments simply put people off trying to engage rationally in what should be an interesting and valid debate.

I always see people say the x100v is a great beginner camera (which it is), but it’s almost better for someone who has a lot of experience with 35mm and knows for sure that’s their main focal length. Love the x100 but always find myself reaching for my xpro.

the only thing that the X-T3 has that I miss is an optical viewfinder. I honestly do not like having an EVF even though it can be handy, just because I feel disconnected from the camera and find that the image looks so different in the evf. but, I’m sure I’ll stick with the T3 for a couple of years because other than that, it’s perfect for me.

I know if you are trying to decide what camera and I was on youtube for months comparing these 2 models. But- in the end I settled on the XE4 and trust me Fuji - is Fuji (to a certain extent) and the photos that came out of the XE4? Makes you forget about all those nitty-gritty details you were comparing. I've never post edit any of my photos so.. It doesn't matter - Fuji is... Fuji ❤

I've been back and forth between these two cameras as upgrades to my battered old X20 compact. I find probably 90% of KZread street shooters and photo reviewers would say X100V because it offers a purer experience and is subjectively "better". The thing is though, rarely would the X100V be their only photographic device (besides their phones). It's quite a commitment to choose a single focal length as your only perspective.

The x100 also has converter lenses for 28mm and 50mm equivalent focal lengths. With those two added, it can become the primary or only camera for many more people.

@@eklavyaverma Your opinion remains valid; many people would be happy with the limitations of the converters. It just wasn't for me, so I swapped to the X-E4 and stuck "fast" lenses on it. I never really got on with the fixed lens/converter combo as I figured that if I was going to use a converter I might as well use a proper lens!

I have had the XE4 since launch. In term of shooting experience, I have less fun shooting with the XE4 than the X100S, which I traded in when I bought the XE4. I think my most gripe is the build quality of the body, buttons and dials. It feels very cheap. The buttons flush to the body with little travel. The dials feel very cheap with loosy feeling. I can't count how many times I accidentally moved the front dial, which controls iso thanks to lack of iso dial, and ruin dozens of photos because it was at iso12800 in stead of Auto3200.

damn man. I currently have the 100s and want the XE4 badlyyyy. would love the 100v but no need to pay so much if you can get same sensor and more lens availability. I understand the XE4 isn't built well and feels cheap but 100s is almost 10 years old now and so I thought there would be a drastic difference. what's your overall verdict?
