Fujifilm X-T30 Hands-on Field Test
TCSTV takes the new Fujifilm X-T30 for a field test. This new mirrorless camera has many features from X-T3, packed into a smaller form factor that is still sleek and easy to use. Watch to find out if this camera is everything Dave Paul and Evelyn Drake hoped for as they attempt to escape the frigid winter conditions of Calgary.

There's one thing Fujifilm does extremely well and it's that they make cameras that I really want to buy. I have no need of 4k60p so I can put the money I was saving up for the X-T3 into the X-T30 and get an extra lens or two into the bargain. Damn good review too, thank you guys.

As a Fuji user, I agree with the general brilliance of Fuji's native APS-C lens lineup, but also keep in mind that third party lenses are more readily available for competing systems. But this is one of the biggest reasons I chose the Fuji system. IBIS is available only in the X-H1 (which is basically X-T2 + IBIS). Rumors are that there won't be an X-H2 till at least 2020. Overall, I've been very happy with my Fuji cameras and will not be going back to Canon. There's still a difference between full frame and APS-C, but I also gain from that difference in some ways.

I had been a Nikon user for 25 years. Have had many awesome film SLR's (FM2, F3, F100) and a couple DSLR's (D90, D700, D7100), and I switched to Fuji in June of 2018. I bought a used (6month old at the time) Fujifilm XE3, essentially a baby XPro 2, with the amazing 18-55 kit lense. I haven't looked back. I sold my D90 and D700, and a couple of lenses I rarely used anymore. It's small and easy to handle, very sexy looking, and takes great photos with the very flexible 18-55 kit lense. I hardly carried my SLR's anymore due to weight/bulkiness, so switching to Fuji had made realize how much I was missing out on the street, being easy to carry around all day. I only have 2 small gripes: It's NOT weather sealed, and the battery sucks. Weather sealing is not too much of a big deal, but if you plan on being out all day, like more than a couple of hours shooting, then carry an extra battery or your charger. Other than that, I'm glad I got it.
@AlokSomani
5 жыл бұрын
@@daytripp79 The battery sucks across the Fuji lineup, so there's no escape there. But it's not THAT much worse than other mirrorless cameras. Digital SLRs will always be better in that regard without live view active and with optical viewfinders. As far as weather sealing, the main X-T cameras (X-T2 and X-T3) are weather sealed, so that should hopefully not be a deterrent from getting into the Fuji system.
What about rolling shutter? I only see this recording limit as my problem and i hope they gonna eliminate it because i read that the EU law about this silly tax is over now. I am looking for a cam mostly for video and i am near to a6400 but the rolling shutter thing and the bad/soft 1080p keeps me still away. So if this has no rolling shutter or at least is minimum and had a no recording limit... pffff .... i think i would be allready conviced to buy it.
@TheCameraStoreTV
5 жыл бұрын
There is very little rolling shutter on the X-T30. It is one of the best performing APS-C sensor cameras in terms of reducing rolling shutter, and much better in that regard when compared to the A6400. It does have a record limit of 10 min 4K and 30 min 1080.

I was not aware that there was any general view that the sensors in the XT20 and XT2 left anything significant to be desired. On the contrary, there was an almost universal agreement in the reviews I read/viewed, that the OCC quality of the pictures was first class. Would appreciate ISS or whatever acronym body stabilisation is called.

Guys, this is a great review. The Plus 15 makes me want visit and photograph Calgary a lot more now. Thanks. I was wondering if it would be possible for you to review various EF to XF mount speed boosters with various "new" EF lenses? I'm trying to make a decision on a first camera in a number of years for photo and video and want as many lens options as possible. Specifically, I really would love to see the Sigma 105mm ART adapted via the Metabones, Steelsring, Fringer, and Kipon Baveyes adapters to an XT-30.
I hope that X-T4 ja X-T40 have both IBIS. Looking forward to X-H2.

This is an excellent camera presentation. Lovely balance of information and opinions. I don't shoot Fuji, yet, but this has stimulated my interest. I am concerned, however, about the reported viewfinder size, something that might turn off my continuing interest in this particular model. I have handled and have been impressed with the X-H1 which as far as I remember had a pretty good viewfinder. It might seem silly but for me a decent sized viewfinder is one of the first requirements when composing/capturing images. Thanks for this stimulating piece of work.

can you please test if the autofocus pulses when using touch to focus to change focus area (rack focus) in video mode? my XH1 and XT3 both hunts at the very last bit when the focus is close to set on subjects, it goes over a bit, and then come back to focus. This issue seems only to appear when using "area" mode, not in "multi“ mode.
Nice review. Just some suggestions, I would like if you guys give comparison from some competitor in this price segment. I personally want to know how it compare to X-T20 and competitor from Sony in autofocus and out of camera jpeg quality. Not really that much of an upgrade form the XT-20. I would wait till an actual upgrade in sensor. Batteries are unchanged and the "USB-C" is a gimmick. A larger view finder would make it a buy for me, but fortunately its not. Does it actually do F-Log? *IBIS FUJI??*

The sound has a lot potential for improvements. It really makes it a pain to follow. The woman - I guess Evelyn - is really hard to understand, if volume cannot be increased, because it constantly changes between volume ok and practically unhearable. @@TheCameraStoreTVlooking at D800e. I don’t do video. Thoughts? Security D3500 for the 1500 shot battery.

The joy-stick is a great innovation but on Fuji cameras it basically has one non-programmable function, and one I never use. I focus and recompose as do many photographers. Now that they’ve removed the D-pad and make us use an unstable, unpredictable and inconvenient to use swipe function why won’t fuji give us the option of programming the joy-stick to something we’d prefer, like using it the way we used to use the time honored and still very functional D-pad??? Removing the D-pad was a production cost saving and I don’t like being told it’s an advance. IT IS NOT. Bad move Fuji. Bad dog. Does this camera match the soon to be 4 f2 WR lenses? It doesn’t look like it but hard to tell on a video. I have not seen one review, including the Fuji guys, where they show a silver T20 with a silver f2 WR lens. Gee, should be a match made in heaven, so why is that? I know my silver T3 doesn’t match the 35mm f2 silver lens I bought for it. Very disappointing, especially since I bought it used and can’t return it. It looks like a third party lens on the camera. Maybe a small thing, but I wish someone other than myself would complain to fuji about their inability to match silvers. Stop making a new shades of silver until you match the lenses and bodies you already have. When I raised the issue with Fuji their response was, “our records indicate no one else has complained about this.” The implications being I was a crank. They’re either not telling me the truth or now quality control is simply a matter of popular vote. “Who’s going to notice so who cares.” SO PICK UP THE PHONE OR FIND FUJI SUPPORT ON LINE AND VOTE. They can’t fix the ones out there but they can match up the lens silver going forward, so why don’t they? Far too many of these fuji camera reviews have become advertisements.
No ibis so not for me with my shaky hands.

No image stabilisation AT ALL, with not even a lens based option available, a deficiency that become obvious as soon as you've shown handheld footage. That, and the awful focus-by-wire lens(why Fuji? Why?), are kind of deal breakers.

The only thing the Canon RP has going for it over the Fuji is it sensor size, and even then the XT-3 sensor that this XT-30 has is arguably a far superior and more advanced sensor than the sensor that in the RP. as a professional photographer the RP is a very little interest to me, while this XT-30 would be something I would be quite interested in carrying for fun as nice little walk around camera. in terms of price this camera is cheaper gives you more capabilities, with more variety of purpose-designed lenses, with arguably better image quality and more dynamic range. Unless you are buying f 1.4 or faster Canon RP glass, this camera with its f 1.2 glass at more reasonable price points from Fuji as compared to native RP glass will stomp all over the RP in all ways that normally the full-frame sensor would be an advantage for.
