Good informational video
Thank you for the great info!
I think that is pretty cool with this about Jayco having their own QC in a building they are building for QC and Rvs. Nice they have a secure for rvers to find campsites. Very nice. I have never roasted or had roasted chestnuts over an open fire. I follow in that category of the people who never had chestnuts roasting on an open fire. Lol! Thank you Jason for this information. Have a great night and see you soon!
After visiting several RV shows in Texas to help narrow my decision down between a Montana and a Cougar model, by the second show I saw a trend, the third show and problems with brand new RV’s made me reconsider my options away from Keystone manufactured RV’s. The crooked cabinets, missing screws in cabinets, lose trim, wallpaper with wrinkles and backsplashes with bubbles, the noticeable things made me wonder what else was behind the walls or underneath that I didn’t see. I know… everyone’s going to say that some issues are to be expected. I get that, but the sheer number of issues, all with one line, it was clear Keystone doesn’t give a 💩 what goes out the door. That lack of concern for their customers was what made me reconsider my choices. I love their RV’s, excellent design, but what I saw scared me. Others… very few flaws were visible.

I just bought a 41GMD LUXE 5th wheel. Here is the deal, all the RV manufactures use the same stuff. now, who builds by the piece and who has a team that assembles each one? Who ever those manufacturers are that build each one start to finish are the ones you should consider. There are some differences in construction among the custom build manufactures. for example LUXE uses a propritary Closed cell foam in their side walls that is thicker that any other wall out there. Sure you pay more, however the quality, lack of defects, attention to detail make all the difference, LUXE highly prefers you pick up your new rig at the factory. They perform a complete walk thru, and will do any last minute upgrades. (like window silks, Furrion cameras, slide toppers and things like that.) You get to stay in it for a couple of days before you leave. Very handy having the guys who built it showing you how everything works. Its worth a peek at their web site. Just my opinion!

Agreed. We’re selling our Keystone, and buying a Casita.
The plug in electric vehicle concept is a farce. What we need is electric vehicles with hot swappable batteries that could be changed in 15 to 30 seconds at a robotic charge site. The solution to the problem needs to be the equivalent of the existing paradigm or better!
I have 30 years of manufacturing experience and a Masters of Quality Assurance. When will RV manufacturers learn that you can't inspect quality into a product?
PDI...what's that? Bought a Jayco Greyhawk which had a black tank leaking on day AFTER dealer delivery. Clearly neither Jayco nor dealer put any water in the tank or they would have discovered it as I did. 5 gallons of fresh water. Also, had roof leak day one where awning attached to roof cap not sealed. Batteries were low on water, electrical wiring was a rats nest of cables under bed and fire hazard and no insulation installed around refrigerator. Someone did check tire pressure, probably on trip from factory by delivery carrier.
We own a 2021 Jayco Eagle, 330RSTS, it has been more in the shop than us using it. We owned a 2007 Jayco Feather-lite. Never had an issue! Was a great trailer! Very disappointed in my Eagle. We’ll trade this one in in a few years and buy another brand.
Thanks for the Traveling Gatherings site tip! As for chestnuts, have you tried to peel those suckers, especially when they hot? I still have singed fingers from my attempt at roasting, then grinding, chestnuts for a cake. 😂
I saw gas here in Colorado Springs at $2.72; Sunday, 04 December.
What kind of company doesn’t do QC before shipping!?! Any company Crazy

If RV manufacturers were actually serious about quality, they would adopt the LEAN manufacturing systems. An expansion of the Toyota Production system. this method of manufacturing builds quality into the product, not hopefully finding the product at the end when it's too late.

It's said that you used to be able to walk ankle deep in chestnuts in the forest and they were the most common tree in the US. It was importing other trees from Japan that brought a fungus and killed them. The fungus is so common that to this day you cannot grow an American Chestnut past adolescence. BUT they've been making hybrids of them to bring them back that are resistant to the fungus. They're planting them at the Flight 93 Memorial site.

In reference to bay-backups, what would constitute an excessive wait time for an RV to get bodywork/paint and a storage compartment replaced? We're at 4+ months so far and keep getting told essentially "two more weeks". Very frustrating.
@RVMiles
Жыл бұрын
Body work is the worst - so many dealers don't even do it. That's terrible you've had to wait that long - but I've heard worse.
Great video Jason. The entire RV industry needs to embrace quality improvements. You are also spot on about the need to reduce the Repair Event Cycle Time. Many don't understand what this is or how it works and how it affects the dealer and his ability to render warranty repairs. Someone who you might have a chat with who is working on this problem is Brett Davis. He is pushing hard to speed up the process and improve the whole warranty experience.
Jason, any word on Keystone doing PDI’s? They have had a terrible running problem with cracks next to the bedroom slide.

Have to wonder what my Casita (or an escape or Oliver) would weigh if made out of carbon fiber instead of fiberglass. I suspect the difference wouldn’t be as significant as the frontal area as far as towing mpg goes, but would be interesting to see fiberglass trailers replaced with carbon fiber.
@joshua.harazin
Жыл бұрын
According to the interwebs, carbon fiber is only about a 15% weight savings over fiberglass. However, it is stronger. So a CF Scamp/Casita wouldn't way a whole lot less, but it could open up some new designs as it wouldn't need to be as rounded to be structurally sound.
Are there any apps that show where you can find an ERV charging station?
Good job
RV manufacturers needed to have a class action lawsuit against them for quality issues, because the biggest of the RV dealerships never fully inspect the new units. These are not cargo trailers they are built for humans. Some companies used to shut down and open under a different name probably an LLC to avoid getting sued. Hopefully they all follow up with a real PDI . It should lower prices also if they don't have the pay for repairs. I doubt that will happen though.

I have been advocating for pull through charging sites for a long time because it is inevitable that they will be needed. I'm glad an organization with a lot more weight is behind it too. I am waiting for the Airstream Estream concept to be real enough so they can tell me how many first born I need to submit to get one. Until then I have an old Prowler that I will modify to be more slippery. I heard about an RV park in Nebraska saying no to EV charging overnight. I hope they are an isolated case, because I can plug my trailer into my truck and the truck to the outlet, or the truck can charge from the trailer while it is plugged in, so I don't need two outlets, but I think parks should accept change and know that there will be more EV's traveling in the future, not less and consider upgrading their electric system

Even if/when that happens, increased efficiency certainly wouldn't be a bad thing. Even the trucking industry has taken steps to mitigate the "wheeled brick" shape of trailers.
EVs are very high toxic producers ... from the harm during gathering lithium to producing the batteries and much more. 300 drums of oil to make 1 battery that will maybe make 1 barrel worth. Then all the costs to put in charging stations and generating power to transmit .. loosing energy to transport it ... and IF all the lithium we (mankind) know of is mined and produced into batteries ... it would top out at 15% of our current energy needs. Then if it ran out then what... ? Oil companies are not going anywhere folks and we have really quite clean running vehicles. Interesting the land that has the highest amount of lithium and very powerful also has the highest child labor, poverty and pollution ............ Greed is a terrible thing. I know the host and other channels couldn't really talk about the myth craze of cars people think have no pollution but it is a lie folks. Do your homework.

Your optimistic view of fuel prices is, in my opinion, deeply flawed. With neither an increase in supply or any increase in production, the most reasonable reason for the drop in fuel prices is due to the Biden administration releasing fuel from the strategic reserve but that well is nearly dry. Because of this, I see fuel prices rising again, not dropping further as you stated. I would love to hear your perspective In this.

Here you go… “We’re heading into serious recession in Europe and further economic slowdown in the U.S. as people struggle with high interest rates and worry about their personal wealth and savings,” said Ben Cahill, an energy security analyst at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. “Add it all up and it creates a bleak picture for oil demand. Prices are reflecting that.” Also helping keep prices low at the moment are some key U.S. oil refineries that returned to churning out gasoline after months of being out of commission for maintenance and repairs. But just as big a factor is the turmoil in China. As its leaders signal that new coronavirus lockdowns are imminent, touching off protests throughout the country, the expected economic fallout has turned oil traders bearish.
@RVMiles
Жыл бұрын
Well, I can't agree that it's because of the SPR. The US will use about 4.4 billion barrels of oil in 2022, and 200 million will have come from the SPR, which is under 5% of our total usage. There are so many factors that go into the price of fuel. Production of oil HAS increased - dramatically. Not enough people are talking about this. People somehow think we aren't pumping oil as much as we have in the past - but there are only 7 months in US history (Sept 19 - Mar 20) that we have produced more oil than we are producing right now. Refinery capacity is really the current problem, and the lack of new investment in refineries. And yes, absolutely, it's fair to give the Biden administration some of the blame for that. But this rollercoaster is largely the shockwave of a massive cut in oil production when the pandemic hit, along with a massive increase in demand for shipping of consumer goods (due in part to stimulus).
Thanks!
