I was there to see this in person, what an experience!! I notice in this video, they show some of the audiences standing ovation for this pair, but they did not include the part where we all booed the judges for 2 minutes after they posted his score. He deserved so much better. truly an amazing horse and rider!!

A beautiful Andalusian stallion, a skilled rider, and a fantastic choice of music, producing a little bit of perfection. Wonderful Fuego X11. Bravo!!

Fantastic ride... Love everything about it!!!! Horse and rider works together in perfect teamwork and harmoni. It is the example as Reinar Klimke would have said... "The horse should be proud to work for you." His horse is proud to work for him, the rider is entusiastic and pets the horse at least two times during the ride.. ...Love it.

All I can say is WOW! that this has to be the best dressage performance i have ever seen in my life! Absolutely stunning!

this was so lovely and joyful to watch. What an amazing pair. This horse has so much character, and his rider obviously loves him to bits.

Wonderful. A shame that the judges prefer warmbloods though, this horse is moving a lot better than most warmbloods whose heads are held so tight they can't even move properly.

Your english is great, but this is an example of a spanish horse retaining ideal elevation (where many warmbloods in this competition do not, especially during a piaffe, many fall downwards on the forehand)... his back is rounded the entire time and his extension is ideal - forward reach while both his diagonals remain parallel. Many of the warmbloods snap their knees when reaching upwards then forward, they no longer are extending properly... many hollow backs also. I believe that's what the original commenter is referring to - that this horse is actually displaying correct dressage movement but the judges tend to reward instead flashy gaits in warmbloods who are not in fact working correctly per the fundamentals of dressage. Dressage should not be a discipline that is bred for as we are seeing now with more and more carriage horse blood visible in the hollow-backed, extended trot you see nowadays. There is no logic in rewarding a very far reaching but hollow-backed and hind-dragging animal over a horse with less front reach but correct hind engagement and a rounded back, after all...

Pura Rasa Espaniola, or the Andalusian horse if you prefer, it is an Arabian/Berber half-blood horse, is more warm-blooded than any other German or Hanoverian

I can't get enough of this video or of the horse. Absolutely stunning

If KUR is about la dance this was beautiful. I truly felt the horse and rider were performing a dance together. Just beautiful. Took my breath away!

He ALWAYS pets him during his programs :3 the reins are so loose and nice, the piaffe is so nicely on the spot, and it's nice to see a pirouette that's actually three beats and not four :) Riding with one hand increases the difficulty and therefore the score, and is a bonus. I have the dvd of the fei world cup 2007 finals, and if I remember correctly the majority of the finalists did it in their program. Shows confidence and lightness of contact. There's so much about them i admire. Favorites :)

Lets all be real- This performance was the gold medal performance- I don't care who actually went home with the title, no horse has ever gotten a standing ovation in dressage before (that i know of)

I never realized, his hoof beats are in time with the claps... DANG!!

Love this horse. It really looks like he's dancing :) No horse will ever do the piaff or the passage like an Iberian horse, not even Totilas!

This was fantastic! The horse was relaxed, the reins weren't taught, the rider praised him all the time and boy that horse can move. Beautiful extended trot and canter, spectacular piaffe, all very light and confident. I think this horse surpasses even Totilas >.>

That was almost flawless! Beautiful concentration from both the horse and rider! I actually found it humorous when he bolted a bit at the end.

I was there to see this performance and by far this was the most exhilarating of the whole evening. This stallion was wonderful wonderful wonderful. Words are inadequate. We all had to rise and give this pair a standing ovation.

Some great showing, music and choreography really show off this horse. I like his style, lot of power from the quarters. Very old style cavalry. And the flamenco dancing really suits him. Spanish horse all the way!

I like to watch this video when I lose faith in competitive dressage. It is wonderful to see such a beautiful horse and rider. Also it is wonderful to see that the gorse didn't react to the crowds cheering until he halted, which shows how concentrated the horse is to the rider and vice versa. I love that the horse stays with his head in one position while on a soft contact. I honestly think that this test should have been the gold medal test.

Fantásticos. Quizá Fuego XII no tenga la fuerza de Totilas pero lo compensa con una vistosidad en los aires inigualable. La doma es disciplina y elegancia y este binomio tiene ambas, pero también tiene que tener algo de chulería (en el buen sentido de la palabra) y esto también lo tienen por eso, el detalle de soltar una mano me ha parecido muy bien (y al público también). Merecieron más. Creo que en la doma clásica a veces se lucha contra los prejuicios. Felicidades a Juan Manuel Muñoz.

Eine der schönsten Küren überhaupt ! Der Reiter hat eine sehr feine Hand und einen fast perfekten Sitz, Wenn Einer so reitet und sich bei der Ausbildung eines solchen hochtalentierten Pferdes die nötige Zeit nimmt, dann bleibt die Harmonie zwischen Pferd und Reiter auch in der höchsten Klasse erhalten. Und er kann auf solchen Unfug wie Rollkur oder und LDP verzichten.

i couldn't agree more! I rode warmbloods for many years. Then had the pleasure to own an Andalusian stallion! I'll never ride anything else.

Fuego XII and his rider should be the flagship couple of the dressage sport NOT Totilas and his rider.

I actually prefer this horse to totilas because whenever totilas does his Piaffe he always seems like he's not engaging his hind end as much as a dressage horse should. fuego is a very nice stallion with around and up hill build, the kind of horse I like best in dressage. his movements are very snappy especially in the extended trot which I really enjoy.

Thank you. I am so glad you agree. If I owned one now I would think I had died and gone to heave. Fuego competed at London 2012, but once again did not get the marks that he deserved thus confirming my point about the judges.

I wanted to note something for the folks reacting to the position of his head/neck: around 3:50-4:00 he walks on a relaxed rein, but the shape of his neck keeps his head largely vertical; a sidebar video of him riderless also shows him moving with neck in the same position. It could be that the head carriage dressage prizes matches that of the Iberian & similar breeds, and we're just used to it requiring severe training to achieve as it's not natural for warmbloods etc.
