Yang-style tai chi looks peaceful, mindful and intentional. Watching Fu move gracefully through these moves reminded me of the power of energy, and the fact that we are made up of constantly moving energized bodies! These moves could definitely become meditative after some time, and help regulate mood and decrease anxiety.

This practice emulates the importance of being in the present. It is a way to slow down and focus on the individual movements and the connection of one movement to the next. The mindfulness of Tai chi can help alleviate chronic stress, hypertension, chronic pain, etc. in the lives of many. Tai chi brings a flow of energy through mindful movements which can also be useful for arthritis and cardiovascular disease. This practice emphasizes balance and harmony through continuous slow movements, rhythmic flexion of the lower limbs, extension of the upper body, the symmetrical arm motion, and the constant shifting of weight.

One thing I noticed is how the practice is based on continues movement. He was always purposefully moving either his upper or lower body or both, which requires high levels of concentration and balance. After watching this and trying to imitate the movements I see why people love Tai Chi.. I can feel it working my muscles, improving my focus, and relieving joint pain.

Fu Zhongwen is very graceful in his practice, it reminds me of a dance. However, I can also see how being in tune with the body, energy, mind, and environment can create an optimal martial artist. This practice truly reminds me of Yin and Yang between the graceful movements and fighting mechanisms developed in each step.

I have never seen tai chi performed before. I have heard of the practice, but never actually knew what it was. The individual is so focused and in the present moment. This also seems like a very creative outlet as the individual makes a specific movement that feels right to him at that moment in time. It is also looks so peaceful as each movement is performed so slowly and calmly, which is very interesting to observe.

Not hard enough? You are aware tai chi is an internal art? The power is both invisible and very soft. Study tai chi and you may eventually come to understand this. My form is similar and I have thrown a 230 pound man 10 feet while remaining light as a feather through the proper use of sensitivity, timing and chi. In sparring I have weathered ferocious attacks while remaining light as a feather. There are many hard styles - this is not one of them.
