I called FU-tone the other day to get a brass block question answered for my Wolfgang. Figured a customer support team member would answer. Nope, it was Adam. Not only did he address my question, but also texted me support links and a parts list just for Wolfgang standards. Then we B.s’d about guitars for a little bit. Going to be doing these mods very soon. Seriously if you’re thinking about modding, start and finish with FU-Tone. Quality, well engineered parts for all the right reasons. Plus a great guy at the wheel. Those, plus US based, I don’t need to go anywhere else.

I've spoken with Adam, as well..... Good communication with an obviously, genuine guy. Addressed all my questions (I've since forgotten what they were - but, the point sticks!)

I have a Wolfgang Standard FSR in satin black. Did not realize the route was odd. I'm a woodworker, so I got this. Thanks Adam!

The tone upgrde is really noticeable...The cleans are more "bold".. And the high gain sounded a bit more "planted"..I'm impressed.

I have a Standard in Bocote on the way this week. Will definitely look into these upgrades in the near future!

1:25 I was so glad when you reached for the tone switch lol. that mid position is so killer i feel like nobody can truly rate the clean tone without using it

Got the Burl this past weekend. Holy smokes. I've owned a bunch over the past 40 years. This one stands out.

I’ve done to upgrades with Adam my last upgrade was for my Wolfgang USA I did a copper block with titanium inserts and locking screws amazing sound

OOOh!! I´ve had my Wolfie Gold Top standard for just two weeks! I´ve already changed the trem arm for a proper one!! This was incredibly helpful. I had to file out some of the wood right under that ledge so the big brass block could had enough range of motion to depress the bar down as far as the stock block. Regardless, I am going back and removing that ledge. Thank you.

I just routed mine last night with the same Dremel tool but with a router base to make it easier to control. Didn't really need that but if you have it might as well. That wood is soft and cuts so easy.. Done in no time. No need for big router on that job. That could easily be done with hand tools if power tools are available.

I take it that the stock Floyd Rose that came with that EVH is a FRT 02000? My EVH 5150 Standard came with a OEM Floyd Rose made in Korea. I'm replacing that as soon as I go back to work.........lol

I have the same guitar wg. standard I want to order new block with my upgrade is the 37L or 42L better to go with I appreciate the information so I could make my order to FU-Tone. That guitar sounds killer and I’m not there with you incredible sustain

Would it be possible to cut a chunk of the wood out in order for the floyd rose to be pulled backwards as well ? I have a dilemma because I really love the look of that guitar but I need a 2 way floyd rose system with good tuning stability

I bought that exact guitar this week second hand. I got it home and it has a loud hum on the distortion channel and a slight hum on clean. If I touch the jack or the metal on the chord is goes away. After taking the cover off I can touch the pots and it goes away. Also if I turn the tone knob all the way down it goes away. Any suggestions. All wires appear to be connected.. Very interested in the upgrades as well!

Did Eddie actually replace the blocks in his main guitars? Does Nuno actually have one of these in his N4? If so, I'm curious why these don't come installed off-the-shelf. You can certainly hear the difference...sounds wicked!

Might not be the right place to ask but would a stock Gotoh GE-1996T block fit in the cavity without routing?

I have 2 of the evh standards and my guitar player has 2 ebm's. My standards both sound better in every way, and do intend to upgrade when I get back to work. His axis guitars sound like mud machines in comparison and drives him nuts. What can he do with his ebm's to make them sound $2000 cheaper like my standards. Lol

Would the Suggested Parts upgrade list above also apply to Wolfgang Specials? I'm wanting to try out some FU Tone upgrades on my Stealth Special.

@@FloydUpgrades Just to clarify...are you saying that you don't feel any mods are required for the stealth specials, or that no "mod" is needed to the list mentioned above...100% go with the same parts list?

What is the reason for moding the rout hole?

Just wondering if you (me ) would be better off just buying the WG special and not have to go thru the mod? I mean there is a cost of parts and labour , so when all is said and done do you have the same guitar ? And cost differential? I’m guessing I’d be better off getting the special ? But really dig the look of the standard chlorine burst!

I'm not sure what this accomplishes. Is it just to make the hole symmetrical for OCD people or is it to make space to fit a better bridge? I just bought a Wolfgang Standard (huge step up for me) and am eager to learn all can about it.

I'm wondering the same thing. The only thing I can think of is that the bottom of the bridge doesn't sit flat on the body because of a plate between the block and the tension fingers for the fine tuners.

THis is a great video, thank you Sir!. I am thinking of buying one of these standards and upgrading it with better? components?. Is the Floyd Rose Tremolo the 200$ one you can buy from Germany? And what do you think of upgrading the pickups, to the $149 dollar ones made by EVH parts? I would like to buy a standard version and buy a few good parts instead of spending $3600 on the more expensive one, that i Really Want!!! Great video and Thanks again. RH DSD

Or, i was thinking about the older PEAVEY EVH but those are not cheap either. Hands down, if i had $4000, i would plunk it down, buy one quality guitar for life and be done with it. I am so Glad Eddie designed an entry level evh for the masses. There seems to be alot of bang for yur buck, with the Wolfgang standard.

I bought a WG standard in October and have made a few upgrades. Swapped in a switch craft toggle and put in the EVH low friction pots. I love to tinker though. If you’re into tinkering and making improvements bespoke for you, get the standard and mod it. For the pickups, I would recommend that you try the standard pickups first for awhile. Pickups were on my wish list before the guitar even arrived but then I spent my first month with the guitar. Pickups quickly dropped to the bottom of my list. Even without the mods Adam has done it sounds and plays great. Can’t wait to get the FU tone parts in it.

If you're going to route it, could you also route a recess to allow up-bends on the floyd? (Understanding that that is not what EVHs are designed for?)

Which exotic model do you have? I’m waiting for my Ziricote to arrive in a few days.

So what does this mod actually do? Are you only making the original cavity even, or in doing so does it make the guitar function or sound any better? Does it have any added benefit for the tremolo or something else? I have a Wolfgang Standard and mine is even all the way across. Aside from that, only the tremolo touches the body OVER the cavity... not where that uneven routing occurred. If it doesn't change anything... tone, function or otherwise, what IS the benefit of doing this other than simply making the cavity more even where they routed it? Sorry... not being confrontational... just genuinely would like to know what benefit this has. Thanks

cool! thanks for this. I imagine they didn't edit it like this because the difference is...not there IMO. Not enough to warrant the mod. The clean seems like it benefitted but the distorted didn't at all.

Think the routing had nothing to do with it, more like the bridge block did all the upgrade.

a bigger block needs more space for the upgrade or you wont have any throw for the bar in the cavity

Not a fan of these evh trems. Schaller ones are a bad ass upgrade

Sounds better... I personally own one standard... I will never buy anyone... pickups suck.
