I am getting back on injections, subQ this time, from the gel since I was allergic to the cottonseed oil on my first try with them, and after the gel basically doing nothing for me. I had a bad experience with IM injections before because no one taught me how to do it, so I am now terrified of needles, but the music you use in this is so cheery and you make it look like no big deal at all. Thank you too for showing the size of the needles up close! My pharmacy and doctors had confusion at first with what needles to give me, but I think I got the right ones. Thank you for this video, I've been watching you for a while now and you're super awesome and helpful :)

I’m having a similar experience now. I switched to gel the beginning of this year after being on IM injections for 4 years but I want to go back to injections because I’ve been having menstrual problems so I just feel like the gel isn’t working. It’s also been a bit itchy on my left arm after getting a higher dose (3 pumps). I heard good things about subq and I want to try that out because I hated IM. How has it been working for you? I know this is hella late so hopefully you see this haha

With all the curfuffel going on I wanted to say that this video was amazingly helpful. My spouse and I watched a bunch of videos and it was this one that we found to be the most helpful doing my first T shot. (Got my first T shot on Thursday! Yay.) And it's rubbish you getting a strike on this. Thank you for making this though and for being awesome!

This really helped! I am very nervous to do my second shot all on my own (partly because I forgot what my doctor told me to do) but I think you explained it exactly how my doctor told me. Now I think I'm a bit more confident to inject all on my own

@@applexd5590 I get my testosterone from planned parenthood. It is informed consent, so you do have to be at least 18 years or older. I don’t know about with a parents consent, just in case you’re younger than 18.

Been on t 3 years and had to switch to subq from intramuscular. This video gave me courage. Thank you!

I also have 5 cats and our basement bathroom has a glass door and there's always at least one of them standing there staring at me as if I'm doing something they need to be involved in.

Hi Aaron, i have a question. I’m about a year on T and I’ve been doing injections into my thighs, but it’s actually painful while injection, after is fine. Have you tried injection into your thigh? And if so was stomach or thigh site less painful?

I just started t I found out that you can do subcutaneous but when I asked the doctor they were confused do you know what I was talking about but before I left I was going to I was able to do it subcutaneous but my question is does it matter what testosterone it is to do it subcutaneous your thing too is there such idiots that the nurse to do it injected me like it was intermuscular so it hurt a lot more than it was supposed to because you put the whole needle in and I don't think you're supposed of a double needle and when you doing it subcutaneously if you can help me let me know if there's a particular type of testosterone name to use subcutaneously or it can be any I would be grateful and appreciate of of that

Does it feel like forever for you to inject? I switched from IM to subq, my first subq was last week and because the needle is so small it goes really slow. Do I just push with a lot of force? Or is that bad? Cause otherwise I feel it would go even slower or not at all.

Use a 27g half inch or 30g half inch if ure really lean like me

What’s the length of gauge you used and gauge with? How many ml are you using?

@@applexd5590 well, I talked to my doctor about wanting to transition medically. I was lucky enough that the place I go to has a doctor who specializes in trans patients so I met with them. Then after a couple appointments, the first one was an introduction and a lesson about the effects of hormones, then the second being the actual day where I was prescribed hormones and I had my preliminary blood tests done. Not all doctors can do it this easily/quickly, but the steps should be similar. I hope this helps! Good luck!

@@applexd5590 personally, I was in a position where I couldn’t get t for years because of my parents. But, even though I experienced a lot of dysphoria, I’m glad I had the time to figure out what I wanted from hormones before I started. I was a little older than you when I came out, around 14. At the time, I thought I was a binary trans man. Now I’m 21 and I know that I don’t want to look like a cis man. Obviously, I’m not saying “wait seven years” because that sucks. But do a lot of research on how T effects the body and learn what you want before going through the process. And remember: you’re still a valid trans person without hormones.

Can medications that are supposed to be injected intramuscularly be used for subcutaneous injections?

I'm almost 1 month on T and can draw out my dose but I'm too scared to inject it in myself so I need a nurse to do it. Are there any tips you have for putting the needle in without being scared??

For the fear, sometimes it helps me to remember that people I know do this all the time and they are all okay. It helps me to feel like this is more of a routine. But above all, the things that help me the most are: feeling safe, and feeling certain. For me, they go hand in hand. I feel safe when I feel certain. It has helped me in the past to write down a step my step checklist of doing my shot. Even if I already know how to do it, knowing that I have for sure followed all the steps correctly really helps (for my Eligard shot, this has been particularly useful)-let me know if you’d like me to make you a checklist, I’d be happy to :) Having a friend present or on FaceTime who does subcutaneous injections can be very helpful. What helped me a lot actually was: at first, I had my shots done by a nurse. Then, I started doing shots by myself but with the nurse there with me. The encouragement really helped, and also knowing that I was safe because they were there helped too. If the issue is with hesitancy-I’ve found that focusing on paying attention to the amount of pressure I’m actually using when I inject has been helpful. If I don’t pay attention, sometimes I’m not even pressing hard enough to get the shot done and it makes the whole thing harder. Once I started paying attention to my hand, asking myself “am I pressing hard enough?” I started noticing that I have a tendency to be way too light. It has helped me to imagine “how would I inject this into someone else if they needed me to do that?” Or “how would a nurse do this?” It’s been helpful in two ways, because (1) by using a more appropriate amount of pressure, I can get the shot done more easily and with less hesitancy, (2) focusing on my hand, almost as if I were just the person doing the injection and not the one receiving the injection, makes me less focused in my fear. Other things that help are like, having some background noise (makes me less hyper aware of just the injection, which helps) and taking a breath and expelling while injecting (like, expelling my breath like I’m a balloon loosing air, lol I don’t know how to explain. Cheeks puffed, audible controlled breath out, you know? It makes noise but also adds other sensations aside from just the injection, which helps for me personally). Did you not say the size of the needle?

Do you have to aspirate when injecting into the stomach ? When I do my shot I get hella anxiety thinking about if I’m hitting a vein or not , then again I’ve been injecting into my thigh ..but my endo didn’t say anything about aspirating when showing me how to give the shot ... I need answers ..

It stings in my stomach idk how to make it less stingy there . I do it 90 degrees wonder if that’s why . My doctor said 90 degrees is fine there but maybe should try 45 degrees

could be scar tissue. be sure to rotate shot sites to avoid that.
