Nice radio but I hate to see the price! Been a Yaesu operator for two decades plus but I also need P25 so it’s off to the American Terrorist /\/\ , aka the flying bat wings…….. It would be nice if Yaesu did a dual Vocoder chip. I could get everything into one package….

Just got mine radio last week. What does this latest update give me or fix? I wish they would give us an swr and battery voltage meter. I use mine as as a portable not mobile and so far I like the FT818 better. I do like the higher wattage and screen for the ftm-500. Screen is absolutely gorgeous! But even though it is higher wattage, I haven’t noticed any significant change. But I am surrounded by repeaters and don’t use either on simplex. I have noticed that my 818 hits more repeaters. It hits 13 repeaters with stock antenna. The ftm-500 hits only 4 of the 13. It’s not a fair comparison since they are using different antennas. Waiting for time to build a new antenna in order to compare radios on exactly same antenna. Need to get some fittings. I am not knocking FTM- 500. I would buy it again. But Ft-818 is a beast at 5w.

Getting mine in about 2-3 weeks hoping it will already have the new update firmware installed

So I went to update my firmware and it says Sub 01.11 > 01.11, Main 01.11 > 01.10, C4DSP 07.20 > 07.20. Is that weird that updating would roll back the Main Firmware? I wonder if mine says 01.11 > 01.10 because I have mine MARS modded?

I don’t know for sure because mine in not modded. But it is a possibility

I thought the QWERTY keyboard was going to be a deal breaker, but not having it hasn't really bothered me. Now that I think of it, the keyboard setup this way makes it easier to enter info and drive... not that I would do that, but maybe that's what Yaesu was thinking. Or maybe Yaesu is part of the "New World Order" plan and promoting distracted driving by not giving us the QWERTY keyboard option!!! AGENDA 21 IS REAL!!! Just kidding, please don't Clinton-ize me. Like Christmas lights and Epstein, they don't hang themselves, and neither would I. LOLOLOL

You didn't need to update the firmware to fix the DTMF tones. That's your second language.😅👍
