FS&S Thunderbolt 1003 Siren Test - Fire - Silverstreet, SC

Bit of a story for this one.
First of all, there was a funeral that almost made us late to the test, so we got there at about 11:55, I originally set up right next to the siren but I had to resort to moving into a shelter at the park across from the siren because of the heat. Well, if we go back to that funeral, the siren test was delayed because of the funeral, so my cameras were burning in the heat. So the talking you hear at the end is from my cousin (who has ADHD, so he kinda couldn't help it) who was very satisfied. Try not to mind it. Anyways, enjoy!

Thunderbolts are still the coolest sirens ever made. When I was a kid, my parents and grandparents had told me that these were put in local schools as well as fire departments when they were installed in the late 1950's and into the early 1960's. If you ever had heard that sound, first Friday of the month at 11:00 a.m., you'd run like hell. I've seen many recordings of this FS&S Thunderbolt, and there is no comparison. "That's exactly what we wanted to see!"
Hatred and wrath aside, this is probably one of the better recordings of this thing I've seen.
This has to be the best recording of this siren i've ever seen.

Thunderbolts were not made until the early 1950s. this one in particular was made in the early 1960s. so it survived only the cold and vietnam wars.

Probably the best recording of this thing. Nice. Also that windup and those pitch fluctuations were nasty. Also why can't we have a 3T22 that does full hi lo and gets recorded every week😭

Bad news, on 12/31 the chopper died. The siren is awaiting repair or, worst case scenario, replacement. EDIT: 9/11/23 it has now been taken down, with no replacement, and is being refurbished as we speak. It should be back up early next year

Jeez it now sounds as if it is on chopper level 3. At least the flasher is fixed

It was never the flasher. It was the spring in the solenoid. I told them to get the mantinance crew to look over the siren and grease what needs to be greased and it seems like they did.
Nice video! So the flasher issue is fixed, Now it sounds lower pitched, Is that because of the heat? This thing can't get a break 💀

It wasn't an issue with the flasher, I'm pretty sure it was the actual solenoid taking a shit.

UPDATE: the siren has be disabled as if right now. talked to the county. they told me as if right now they have it disable for right now bc of issue's its haven rn. so ill keep everyone updated
