And he still isn't 2 years later. But it's actually quite a lot for a channel like this
love your reviews! Always very informative and detailed. Most of all, correctly analyzed. thank you. I've been thinking about buying one of these, or the next higher model, for a while now.
I like your comments on the build quality. Been considering the DEVO F12E, but havent heard anything about those quality wise. Thoughts?
update.. taranis now comes with a 2000mah nimh battery... what do you think of it... and did you ever field test or put it on your equipment to test latency?
Love your videos. Can you review the FST6? Its a cheep 6 channel radio that beginners should start with.. Thank you!
Hi! Question: Can I use a Taranis and get full telemetry readings on a Blade 300cfx?
compare with Spektrum DX9 , which one do you think is better ? and longer range ? i am currently use spektrum DX9 but thinking to change to FrSky Taranis or Futaba... can you give m some advise ? thx thx
how does radiolink compare to frysky? other than price. i have become obsessed with telemetry and i am on a budget, what would you recommend? thank you. another rad vid as usual.
Great channel and has been for years! Tell me, the frsky taranus can it be used for boats as well as aircraft in that there is astern involved in one and twin prop vessels. For boats on another system I use each stick to control each motor forward and astern and the off position needs to be centre rather than bottom. Also has anyone made both sticks sprung or both unsprung. This was possible in say the Planet T5 and T7 but that enterprise seems to have vanished of the market. Serious questions before I invest in more rxs
Hi Bruce, I was sure you would know that but just wanted to make sure people watching the video knew it is different to the er9x (which I used to use). I need to correct myself as well, it is now called 'OpenTX' to separate it from the 9X Radios as the Taranis is really quite different hardware. But, again, I'm sure you know all this. Great work as usually btw.
hi still struggling with the tyrannis programming (35mhz guy) love the radio .. what is the difference between the 'European' + 'American' settings in the radio set up?? love the channel hope you have a good outcome from the changes you are having to make. we still have a lonely tract of moorland Down here in Cornwall (UK) but the regulators are breeding even here. Stopped us flying over Dartmoor. :+( Kind regards Chris
will you be doing a Frysky 9XD Plus review?
With the built in d16 module,(without any external module),can I bind two x8r's together to get 16channels?is it reliable?can I use this radio for huge skymasters turbine jets?or should I get an external frsky xjt module?
Help! Taranis plus. On the page for sensors when I assign a unit to a sensor, for example i assign ft to GA12 then in special functions i assign " voice" to be played when I activate switch H, and she reads it back to me as a %. I have assigned many different values under units and she will read back anything except what i have selected
Hi I recently got the radio nut having difficulty to program esc for ccpm heli. Can you please assist me? I live in Aus so can call you as well Thanks Ash
so the taranis actually has an inbuilt transmitter and the accommodation in the back is for additional transmitter modules if you wish to use them over then inbuilt one?
Thank you so much Bruce for everything you do! Thank you for being passionate about this wonderful hobby! Thank you for every single video and article you have ever published!
Was wondering what module I would use for all my Blade helis and spektrum receivers?.. Great Videos BTW
Bruce. I need your help. I'm looking at buying a DGL pro glider I have a turnigy 9x v2 and would like to know what I need to get a micro receiver.
Hi Bruce, Is it possible to program all channels to set to a predetermined position in case of signal loss and not just throttle?
Interested to know Bruce how this radio works out of the box for someone who maybe cant or dosnt want to be bothered with open source etc. Are things like the voice warning in the radio or have to be setup through the software.
Anyone know of a program you can d/l that will transfer to the Taranis w/o needing load a bunch of stuff through openTX?
I'm interested to know how useful having RSSI in the telemetry is and whether it gives you any indication of the noise floor?
Sir I have a very silly question but I just can not find where to purchase a lanyard extender like the one in this video that is on the 9XD, can you tell me where you purchased it? did you make it? Thank you.

Steven Clarke I recently bought one and it came with it however you can probably find it on ebay
Do you have a constant low buzzing noise from the speaker in your working Taranis Bruce? Mine has a noise that's easy to hear when the volume is turned to max.
Thanks Bruce, have one of the first batches coming to me. Am new to open source, need help and appreciate your videos. Thanks again.
but does the Taranis display the voltages from the D8r?
Hi. Thanks for the info. I am trying to choose an RC for my BIX3 and Parrot Disco ... regards !!!
I can't wait to get my hands on one. Where would be a good place to get one from? I don't mind where it comes from but I'm in Australia
Did you set it up in the radio menus itself as you would any radio or connected to a PC
What is the long range receiver is he talking about?
What about using FlySky module in Taranis in combo with the internal FrSky? To get use of the old receivers i have.
Can anyone tell me if I can attach my Assan modul and then internally switch over
is there anyone with a buzz noise sound coming from the speaker? just received mine and it does. Is it mine the only one or is normal having this noisy sound all the time?
the x8r does not appear to support the voltage sensor directly plugged into the RX like the D8r, this would be a deal breaker, can you please check that out.
how do you get hobbyking to ship Lipos to nz?
What lipo pack should I get for the Taranis? Want to pick one up before my radio gets here.
Bruce...or anyone. I see you are going to utilize a 3s LiFe (HK 1500 mAh). Is it necessary to mod the battery's connector balance plug? or can you plug-in the battery as is? If a mod is required what are the steps / parts required?
is this ok for longe range? i need 5 or more km of good signal. thanks
In the video the left stick doesn't seem centered left-to-right - it seems to be tilted to the left a little. Is that just a trick of perspective from the close camera?
Hi Bruce just a question for you if the taranis is certified by the fcc is it legal to use in canada I just received an email from maac stating that it is illegal to use here in canada and if caught a fine of up to $5000 and jail time I could send it to you for your reading pleasure just floors me that all of a sudden I cannot use frsky anymore your thoughts?
@tomrich1502

I was informed that they need an IC certification number in canada wonder why frsky hasn't applied for that just peed off our hobby is going to he'll!!!
yes, i do have that one. thats super news. thank you very much for your reply.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a full review on how the telemetry works, how much effort it takes to calibrate etc. Thanks Bruce
do you have a step by step video on how to set up a new quadrotor model using only the taranis radio? i have been looking for simple step by step set up for my mini quad for weeks now! when i try to set up a new model my throttle stick triggers multiple things at once. no idea what im doing here, haha cheers.

Bruce, may I ask why you don't use Spektrum radios?
I recently got a Radiolink AT9 at a bargain price. Unfortunately the documentation is bad and there is nothing on the intenet for it. Being new to the hobby I can not even bind the receiver to the transmitter. So could you do a review about t and so haw to do the Tx-Rx binding.
I fly with my Hitec Aurora 9 and Optima receivers . The Optima receivers operate on up to 27 volts and give in-flight motor battery telemetry with not additional devices. I would like to view some very basic information about "open systems". I get the impression that these new systems have cheaper receivers, have advantages for multi-rotor and FPV flying ( I'm not interested in either) but I don't understand what advantages "open systems" will give me, a mostly electric powered scale model flier, over and above "closed systems" such as Spectrum, Futaba, and a few others.
I'm looking into a second TX (I have a DX7s already) and would seriously consider this TX as a good choice, I like the telem (DX has some too) and 16 channel functions, one thing I can't seem to find, is this TX DSMX compatible, I know it's DSM2 already
In the Painless360 series of videos on the Taranis he says to update the firmware at the beginning and I foolishly did that and it screwed up everything so now the sticks are on the wrong channels and I get a throttle warning every time I turn it on. How do I correct that and get everything back to normal?
@stevec2196
8 жыл бұрын
Yes I know how it works but the update swapped the sticks so the throttle was the other stick that's always in the center position instead of bottom. I figured out how to get it all back to normal though.
Which would you recommend this Taranis or the Graupner mz-24?
@ethanthecraftwars
7 жыл бұрын
Aleem Mohammed I would choose the taranis because it is open source
can you recommend on a good digital scale ( $100.00 or less ) thank you.
Can a taranis Qx7 be used for a heli
Is it analog RSSI or digital like the old Frsky telemetry?
Does anyone know if you can buy them yet. Looks like an amazing radio.
how much mW does the transmitter output?
Would anyone recommend this Radio over the Futaba T8J ? im using it for Multirotor Thanks.
I am a newbie with Quads. As I grow in the Hobby buying new quads would this transmitter be a smart investment allowing me to use a single transmitter with all quads and possibly saving money buy buying quads without the stock transmitter. Currently I have 2 quads. A Blade Nano QX ( my first quad) and most recently a Syma X5C-1. Would I be able to use this transmitter for both of these Quads and if so how do I ? thanks Ken

Ken most products will only be compatible with their own brand
I have had a modded 9x for some time now, this Taranis radio is basically a fully modded 9x out of the box, if you google Open Tx you will see on the forums all the mods have been around for a while, I will be buying one of these as I know the potential of this radio and how much of a game changer it is. The firmware and support alone are worth twice the price of the radio.
in the 9xr you would set the backlight to turn on when you pressed lep on the arrow pad then scrolled down to something that would say backlight then select activate on button press rather than on stick
The problem with NiMH batteries is they are really terrible in the cold. The lithium suffers too but not nearly as bad. As far as reversing the connector, all it takes is a simple diode (or other method) on the circuit to prevent damage from reverse connection. I am curious to find out if FrSky did this.
are the cppm?
I tried sifting through the board (very quickly) on the road and on autopilot with my model s (still freaky) wondering if this can be changed to mode 1 easily? Amazing how hard it is to find mode one which I think is crazy since all video game controllers are mode 1 (Xbox,ps4,etc) I tried relearning the wheel but once your homed in it's hard to teach a old unwilling dog new tricks. I wrecked my last 2 quads walkera250 (not that bad considering your bashing which I found fantastic.) messed to get it peppy then crash and broke my heart and again I tried with vortex 250 and really haven't flown due to my mode1 crazy crazy needs. Ty I know you run mode one (Like a boss)

Epic-Elite Dynamics dunno about all video game controllers being mode one lol. Odd replying to a 10 month old comment
Can you share with us the difference between the X9D and the X9D-PLUS please

kennethpappas I belive that the plus has a backlight
That would be great. It would be interesting to see the internal FrSky support go head to head with the external Orange DSM2 module. :)
hey bruce like this remote could you please just update me on the fpv system you said you were going to send down to wellington.
anybody know if this radio will support all Multirotor function ?
I spoke to FRsky a few months back, they said they will be available from Aloft Hobbies in USA T9hobbysport in UK HiModel they were making a small number that were meant to be released in march or april. They will be in full production soon.
Bruce. Maybe the included NiMh pack is because of potential postage/shipping hassles with Lithium technologies. (I have a friend who's had factory made cylindrical LiFe TX packs taken at the airport recently, but they were fine with his laptop with it's LiOn's in it).
I'm really a noob, but can solder and buy stuff. I want to just buy a Taranis up front (never built a flying rc yet), but what is a "mode"? Are there more than 2 Taranis x9d's to choose from (mode 1 & 2)???
@kenfuciusfpv2800
8 жыл бұрын
Btw, I'm in the US. Is mode a regional thing?
@russrh
7 жыл бұрын
Mode 1 has the throttle located on the right. Mode 2 has the throttle stock on the left. Australian pilots predominantly fly Mode 1 (I'm not sure about NZ) while in the US, it is predominantly Mode 2.

Kenneth no not really, you can choose but if you live in the US and fly mode 2 you can get help from others more easily BTW I fly mode 2

Thanks! I got one now, it's a mode 2. Got QX90 to play with but immediately broke the camera :-(
I can not believe it took me 2 years to dive into Open TX... Open TX would have saved me a lot of heartache and frustration.

price , availability ? thanks
thx for the informations!!!!
Somebody please post where they can be bought from in New Zealand ?
love 1080p !!!
Hi you got a link for the life battery you say fits the Radio Its an amazing piece if kit but still got to get a mate to program it thank you in advance fantastic videos you have very helpful
One of the main changed from the old reciever that the new one support antenna diversity!!! this is very important!!!
Really? That POOR XG8! You were so impressed with it when you got it. Looks like your keeping it with the "clicker remote".
think im starting to get sold on this radio,likeing more and more on what i here about it. looks like my dx8 might just be going to a new home.
thanks for this
X8R doesn't have a voltage input, and yes of course the Taranis displays voltage from D receivers.
Wow, the non-removable antenna is really a huge oversight. I'm almost ready to cancel my pre-order over it!
I cant be happier with my Taranis. I just made a custom splash screen for mine and added some Top Gun music. For a price of a DX6i this is waaaayy better
@GadgetMart
9 жыл бұрын
But it's not the price of a DX6i. I have just bought a Taranis plus, I have also bought the parts to make a DSM2/DSMX hack module. The total cost is approaching £200. The Taranis feels 'cheap' I'm shocked Bruce directly compares it to JR - which used jewelled movement switches. You can buy a DX18 G1 for similar money on ebay. The silly part is, a second hand out of warranty Spektrum set has a better warranty than a brand new Taranis. (I have both).
They are on pre-order and the first batch of pre-order has been sold out.
i sent you an email regarding fpv via your website. did you get a chance to read it?
indeed, plus i am happy to cut a hole in the 9xr and add a rear joystick but no way would i even dar with the taranis
According to Wikipedia Taranis was the Celtic god of thunder. That means it is either going to take the RC radio market by storm or be a storm in a teacup.
By the time shipping (to Canada), batteries, programming cable are included in the cost, the price difference is not huge. Plus sliders!
hey bruce can you please answer i know you are probably busy but i just want to check that the fpv system hasn't got lost in the mail if you have sent it if not that is ok i wanted it on thursday for filming for college but thats fine i have sent you some emails but you haven't replied to them Thanks Dion please reply :)
I will definitely get this Futaba radio is just too expensive for me..
Bruce, The Taranis firmware is Open9x not Er9x.
I think having an NI-MH is fine. It should have plenty of life and there is no fire risk. The lithium battery you showed i think is also fire safe.
do you use the faulty frysky transmitter now?
This radio would be fine to use with a 433 transmitter, if you want 5+ KM then you need a UHF system.
@yellowbluerc5047
9 жыл бұрын
I love lrs have dragonlink myself although I have seen ppl go 8km with the frsky 2.4ghz
60 model memory?thats insane i can probably use it for years!!
um, you can get it in canada for $230 including a receiver from canadadrones
People could mark the polarity of the battery connector socket with a marker or with a dab of paint.
thanks
I was looking at the banggood dot com website they are also selling this radio has anyone bought it from there ? From the RCgroup website seems like a lot of people have good words for banggood. I have tons of things to do here and I cant wait to buy this radio any longer.
