Frozen Visually Shows Mental Health PERFECTLY : Frozen

Фильм және анимация

Hay, this is a deep dive into the film Frozen. Looking closly at the meanings of the artist direction and how it relates to the film, more specifically how Elsa's powers (which is artistic) simulate Elsa's emotion and struggles powerfully. I hope you enjoy the video!

I love this movie for this. What Elsa goes through leaves an impact on a person. She literally is taught from childhood on that she is a danger. In the musical there actually is a song where she considers killing herself to stop the storm. A lot of people hate Elsa for being „selfish“ and a bad leader and sister. I see where they got that from. But like you said, it‘s a wonder she isn’t even worse at socializing and handling emotional stuff. Meaning I get why she is doing what she is doing. Don’t really understand how some people totally don’t get that. Love the Video 👍

I just wanted to share that 'letting go' is also a technique of healing trauma, which is helping me out a lot right now. It has been quite a journey from realizing my depression to where I'm at right now. It's the opposite of "don't feel", do feel. But also to be gentle with yourself, small steps at a time, cultivating a loving attitude towards yourself. After a lot of practice with mindfulness, letting go, (and even ice baths lol) I'm at this stage that I can feel back into past traumatic experiences while remaining calm of mind and bringing that loving, connecting, caring attitude in to it, and that helps clear away the hurt and blockages.

Elsa is definitely asd-coded. From the cold demeanor from being disconnected from emotional cues, the sensory overload at the party, including her being better at bonding with non-human objects or creatures, such as Olaf and Marshmallow, etc. even her being different than her “normal” sister, causes her parents to force her to become isolated and reclusive. They even tried to diagnose her to try to figure out “what’s wrong” with her. During the party, she had a sensory overload, and accidentally lashes out when Anna touches her. When the people finds out she’s not normal, she’s immediately labeled a “freak” or a “monster”. When she gets anxious, she stims via echolalia “don’t feel. Don’t feel. Don’t feel.”

Seriously, there is no escape. The rollercoaster emotional ride, the captivity making inside hollow, outside dead.

People say Elsa is a bad character because she didn't fit the same mold as the other Disney princesses ... she was chaotic, new, and chasing survival instead of dreams. Despite any flaws, she's a very accurate portrayal of someone who experienced loss, suppression, and trauma.

Any doubts about whether Elsa questioned whether or not she was better off dead are cleared up in the stage play. Of course since It's a family-friendly play they never use the s word, ( just like I won't incase KZread tries to censor me) but there is a song where she sings about taking accountability for her actions versus offing herself for the sake of everyone, and when she decides to try and fix things, it's made clear that eliminating herself is still on the table, just not until she's done fixing things. I was actually quite shocked that Disney was willing to go there. It's called Monster if you want to listen to it. I disagree with a lot of her parents choices, but I don't think that they were made with the intent to hurt her. It was still abusive, but when it comes to Healing from abuse oh, the intent of the perpetrators can matter. Her parents were likely scrambling for 18 years trying to figure out a way to get Elsa out of this situation, and the fact that they had good intentions probably helped Elsa a lot. For some people it would have just confused them more oh, but for Elsa I think it humanized these authority figures who put these restrictions on her.

Awesome video, I love how Elsa’s ice powers visually show the emotional struggle she was going through that is powerful visual story telling. I felt so sorry for Elsa throughout the movie when the people of Arendelle called her a monster just because of her powers when she wasn’t at all she was just a innocent lovely woman who never intended to harm anybody. I’m overjoyed Arendelle finally accepted her powers in Frozen 2, Elsa went on such a transformation in that movie. I think her and Anna’s mother Iduna should return in Frozen 3, that would give Elsa so much joy to have her mother back in her life, I think her and Honeymaren from Frozen 2 should also become a couple as they did had such sweet chemistry!

Thank you very much dude! Hope you're doing well. I haven't seen Frozen 2 yet so I can't comment of those characters. But with Elsa's mother returning, personally I don't know how I feel about that, usually I prefer characters who are dead that remain dead as it could undermine elements in the first movie. However I don't think this would be a bad idea as we don't know exactly what happened to them, other than the theory that Elsa's parents are also Tarzan's. But I don't see the point of her coming back other than emotional support, which seems a little pointless considering what Elsa has already been through.

I've been a fan of Elsa ever since I first encountered her in 2014 to this day, and I still find myself trying to understand her more and more, since sadly, she dosen't have a lot of screentime in the first movie. Not only has she re-ignited my hope in Disney's ability to tell heartwarming stories that all can be touched by, but she also helped me by inspiring me with her song of Let It Go, which has increased my self confidence immensely. Lately though, one question that I keep asking myself about her is "since she seems to have developed PTSD from her childhood trauma, as seen with her flashback in the ice palace to said incident...is it possible that, when Pabbie showed her the danger that might happen in the future because of her power, if she won't learn how to control it...did Elsa had another PTSD flashback to the incident, since the future warning sign from Pabbie might've triggered her PTSD?" The reason as to why I'm asking this is because, for years, I've been trying what kind of fear really motivates Elsa- the fear of hurting others with her powers? The fear of others hurting HER because of her powers (due to her reaction to the last part of Pabbie's future vision)? Or are these two fears motivating her in an equal manner? See, if Elsa already had a flashback trigger to the incident when Pabbie was showing her the vision about the danger in her power, she might not have fully payed attention to him, which could affect on how she viewed her power from that point on. Although, her parents would've probably reminded her of that part regardless, as they wanted her to control her powers, so that such incident will never happen again, and to protect Elsa from others. Moreover, let's compare for a moment what Elsa was experiencing before and after Pabbie's vision in regard to her power- Before the vision, the incident showed Elsa that if her power was to hit a person, it could end in a disaster. However, that was an accidental shot at Anna, and before that, there was no apparent danger in her power. HOWEVER, in Pabbie's vision, Elsa learns that her power dosen't have to hit people by accident to be dangerous...because this power ALREADY has a dangerous side BY DEFAULT, and this power is only going to get STRONGER. For example imagine that you accidentally hit your sibling in the eye with a wooden chopstick. Obviously, this hit had the potential to cause harm, but unless it is thrown to the eye, the chopstick is harmless. However, imagine that you later learn that in the future, said chopstick will start to grow more and more, and the wood that it's made out of will start to grow razor sharp spikes, that can stretch for a long length, and harm anyone in close proximity of the chopstick. You see, to me, I think that Elsa was more focused on this new fear about the dangerous potential of her power, rather than having a flashback to the incident, because I think that it's far more scary to know that something in you is dangerous by default, than to know that something in you could be dangerous only if you use it in a certain manner.
