Good luck. Hopefully it continues to improve. I've watched hundreds of chiropractor videos on KZread and this has to be one of the most disturbing cases that I've seen. It looks like someone opened up his shoulder and poured a bunch of concrete into it.

Dealing with a frozen shoulder is brutal ! Bill's looked like a really intense case.. I mean aren't they all but his was really cinching from a lot of areas. I hope he gets relief soon. It was nice to see some more range of motion after just one appt. Some of those moves would be painful but even extra with his condition. He was definitely holding his breath a few times... I totally get it.. sometimes digging in deep hurts so much but does bring relief when you stop and it can relax again. I hope to see his future sessions. I'm glad his first chiropractor was with someone so good !

You’re absolutely right about doing so much on the first visit, Bill would need to come back for more visits for sure. I hope he’ll get better but knowing Dr Doug, I know that he could definitely help him and it’s already looking much better 👍. I’ve had patients with frozen shoulder exactly like this guy, due to months in hospital bed due to Covid. Patients was doing better raising their shoulder back to normal after a month or physical therapy. Consistency of using the shoulder is the key. Pulley, arm slide, air-dyne bike to help move the shoulder and etc. Everything in moderation, patients can later start to feel pain due to over exercise.

A few nights ago I unexpectedly popped my right (I think) AC joint in a loud and briefly painful way, and I think it might have been an adhesion or fixation I've had since an injury in 2008 after which I had (probably) frozen shoulder that I think never really got better (until now), just worked around. The whole right side of my body has felt much freer since then and lots of other problem areas are shifting and feeling different from how they have for a long time, especially my right upper thoracic area and right atlas. It's amazing what a difference one shoulder joint can make on the whole surrounding spine.

I know.... I had shoulder repair for right shoulder arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. 2. Right shoulder arthroscopy with extensive debridement. 3. Right shoulder open subpectoral biceps tenodesis. Surgery was in April and still in PT. Just cannot get the shoulder to raise up without passive assist as well as getting the shoulder and arm to lay flat when laying on back. Dr. mentioned he could fix this by doing a capsule release of the scar tissue, but the scar tissue is still not mature enough and if he did the capsule now, it would immediately go back to the way it is now. He recommends waiting a bit longer until the scar tissue matures. Is this a common problem with shoulder surgery repairs? I see my Chiropractor as well and we just can’t seem to get the mobility back .

Wake 1 hour early to be in a super relaxed state. Lay on your back with your eyes close. VERY VERY VERY SLOWLY, move your arm in different directions. As you approach pain, move slower, take a quick break if needed but don't give up. Let gravity and the weight of your arm do the work. Give your muscles permission to let go. You'll feel the adhesions break free. This is Not about exercise or straining. It's all about SLOW SLOW movements and relaxing your body as you feel you're tensing up. You need to be in a calm, quiet, meditative state and allow the muscle to let go. Pay attention to each movement and learn how your muscles interact. Do it every morning and you'll be amazed of the results. You can do this. The power is in your own hands. Best of luck!

Oh man! Bill is a real hero for all of the pain he endured. He certainly trusts you, Doug. I really hope he follows up; there was good improvement just with the deep fascial releases and adjustments. I’m just curious. Would Bill have a tendency to become more inflamed after this appointment? Are the coracoacromial and the acromioclavicular ligaments with something so inflamed over time? Does the capsule shrink and become uber-fibrotic over time too? Apologies for the questions. I’m trying to understand how Bill’s shoulder would tighten up so much cranially and caudally, at least from a frontal orientation. Just nerd questions…I really really appreciate what you and Bill are doing together. 🙏🙏🙏

Lot of questions here, and difficult to answer constructively, every type of inflammation is different! it depends on various factors such as the causes of the inflammation and the grades. Studies has been made upon frozen shoulder and it occurs that for example diabetes, hypothyroidism, Parkinson play a role as risk factors to develop frozen shoulder. Inflammation is not always bad, the bad thing about inflammation is when it gets chronical. Anyway I can’t tell you for sure wether Bill gets more inflamed after the appointment, I think less rather than more. Thanks for your interest taobarb.

I want to thank you for your generous response to my question. I should have cranked it back a few notches. I’m sure the etiology of this constellation of issues is tough to tease apart, but your approach really seems to get a lot of answers. I appreciate that. I also respect a need to protect some of Bill’s privacy in his treatment, even if he graciously consents for you to share this instructional information with us. It’s interesting that you should mention organic and neurological components in frozen shoulders of some patients, among others. I have a student with milder Parkinson’s who trains in iaido and Japanese jujutsu with me, and he has a frozen shoulder as well. He hasn’t received much help from his own chiropractor or neurologist, but he’s working on it. The etiology of his issue is unclear. He’s also a high ranking practitioner who has been active in more combative competitions, so things are complicated. As you can imagine, drawing and cutting with a sword or throwing another martialist requires a sort of special set of movements and strengths. He’s gained some mobility back and we’re working within his limitations, but he needs more help than I can provide him in class. So Bill’s circumstances piqued my interest. Besides being a trainer and martial arts instructor since rocks were dirt, I’m also a former dentist, so head, neck, and shoulder issues are pretty interesting to me. Anywho…thank you again for your kindness and for helping all of these wonderful folks and furbabies. It matters! Warmest regards, Barb

I got frozen shoulder when I turned 50. Eating a KETOish diet helped alot. Fixed my type 2 as well. Lost a lot of weight. No longer type 2 or frozen shoulder. My frozen shoulder only lasted 6 months though. Was only my right shoulder. For the longest time every time I tried to shoot a free throw it felt like a bumble bee would sting the top of my trapezius.

Wow this guy was BRAVE! I can’t remember watching anything quite so painful. I was making Mexican salsa and chopping vegetables and had to keep reminding myself to chop carefully as I was being distracted! Sometimes in life we have to go through the pain barrier but I was thinking maybe an epidural? Or something similar!

Epidural is the kind of treatment which wouldn’t help his shoulder issue, and he doesn’t need an anesthesia. Thank you for sharing your idea.

Bill needs reminded to “breathe”… I believe that reminding him to breathe through the pain will actually make it much better, tolerable, and also with each breath, you’ll be able go that little bit deeper into the muscle (which I know you know, being a masseur yourself). From viewing, and what most people tend to do.. they take that breath and hold it, gritting and wriggling… breathing consistently will make him feel much better and the body/muscles more relaxed… holding that breath gonna cause a massive headache 🤕. Too, I like that massage gun… Do you think you’ll do Gua Sha when you get towards the end of your sessions? He gonna be looking like a dark plum releasing all that, for sure… and probably the other shoulder since it was injured as well. Did you mention all your massage abilities as well? Looking forward to the series 👍🏼

I hope he can continue treatment and get better but by bit. I had this as well, not as bad. My cousin a rhumatoid arthritis doctor put me at about 25% movement and then i "cheated" and started to use other muscles to get my arm up and then it to peaked. I had work similar to this done, though she recommended cortisone shots. I didnt want shots. I had to break up scar tissue and loosen muscles. O e thing that also helped is i used EMS/TENS machine. I'd get hooked up and then go through various motions and exercises with it zapping. It seemed to reduce my amount of pain so i could move through the movement bette. I guess it intercepts the pain thing to your brain. Anyway, i have most my movement back. Took like a year. I hope he can keep getting help and work through because that is really painful and limiting in everyday to be in pain and not be able.to.move
