Frozen ground....No Problem | Allotments For Fun and Food

Better weather here in the Welsh Valleys. Another delivery of horse manure about to arrive and my new line of bins gets blown over by the high winds. I move some membrane around, its like playing chess. The compost bins are really filling now and the temperatures are going well. My utility area is the main area to work on before the growing season starts. With the ground frozen the levelling job is a bit harder than it should be but I still manage to make some progress. The tanks will be on blocks but I can't lift the IBC tanks without some help.
UK Allotments are the ideal place to learn how to grow fruit and vegetables. My allotment is a no dig allotment and I share how to grow vegetables and how to prepare a no dig garden. If you are growing in a backyard garden or homestead and you want some tips on how to grow vegetables I hope my channel has something to offer. Allotment ideas are always worth sharing and I am happy to share my gardening ideas and failures so that we can all learn to grow vegetables together. I also learn on the allotment nearly every time I am there and learning how to grow in a Polytunnel or greenhouse can be a fun an exciting experience too. If you are one of the many allotment beginners or thousands of people growing in your garden for the first time then join me growing on Allotments For Fun and food and get some allotment ideas

You are perfect for me. Total admiration for your energy levels and battling away in all weathers. I don't risk slippery conditions, so I wait until it warms up a bit before venturing out, which gives me a smaller window to tackle those big tasks. Watching you gives me my fix and builds my motivation for when I dare to venture out. Happy starting to sow my very first seeds and planning just how I will organise the garden this year. Don't ever change.

Quite nicely done. Always good to see how things are done elsewhere, even after 50 years of gardening I've learned that there is so much left to learn. Looks like a nice day, we are enjoying rain and sleet with 2°, good day for some seed starting inside, it will not be long before upper 30s are here. My piles almost never get that warm, mostly sheep and goat muck with only a small amount of horse and poultry added, it still gets broke down, just takes a little longer. Good luck and keep growing.

It’s fun to watch over here, even without an allotment - just my back garden - because it’s never quite the same. Sure, it’s a compost delivery but new location, new strategies, different weather conditions, alternative views, etc. Plus I’m so envious of just how much manure you get, since all I have is a single cubic meter 😉 compost bay that I’m filling up with my own garden waste.

Hi Malcolm. Just a thought if you turn the middle blocks through 90 deg's they can support two corners each reducing the number of blocks you need. Also try to centre the corners on each block to spread the weight evenly avoiding the blocs sinking on one side.

Malcolm are you going to put,ore barrier inside the fence (white board) two reasons really to stop that weed and the second tank but if putting potato pots security plus protection from animal and weeds. Oh and third it looks nicer too.
