Why not put in some lighter oil along with fully synthetic oil? They could also put in some oil thinner additives like Lucas Oil in it too. It can't hurt. Cold starting a engine like that a few times won't hurt; but to do it years after years will kill the engine.

Canada doesnt get as cold as there. A block heater wont unthaw frozen oil. They had to warm the whole car because the oil itself froze solid.

The electrical cost of keeping that block heater running in such cold Temps would be pretty high, even with a blanket to prevent heat loss. Haha, however a piece of metal as a heat shield infront of the bumper wouldn't have cost to much.

This is how I warm my backhoe when it below zero. The advantage is that the entire machine is warmed up. The differentials, transmission ect. even getting the tires warmed up is a big plus. At -40 the tires have flat spots where they make contact with the ground.

Haha I find this awesome others can appreciate car blankets! I work in the heavy duty trucking industry, very common to see a huge sleeper tucked under a blanket with multiple heaters! These cold northern climates and diesel motors tend to fight often resulting if frozen air lines and brake lines and cold starts that often infact don’t start at all . Tractor Trailers can be a nightmare in these conditions, huge kudos to these guys for bearing these temperatures I know -50° Celsius personally and it is no joke.

@@hackn001 in norway -20 -30 is normal some places in the winter, and there are no problem with starting or using the car. O think you start having problems in -40 -50

I'm a native upstate new yorker. Left all that freakin cold (and moved to the warm south) when i was in my early 20's....and i'm now in my mid 60's. Hands down - the single BEST decision i ever made.

I thought I was a badass in Alaska but we only get -30 in anchorage. Y’all get my respect. Good video guys

This is life in interior Alaska too at times. Glad I had a garage. After my first month of snow there I said nope. Lol. Got a house with a garage and bought a specific type of windshield cover so if it snowed while I was at work all I had to do was lift the side and bam, no more snow. So nice.

They are not proffesional. I live in the region neighboring Yakutia and we have common car heating services. Therefore, there is something to compare with, it is not necessary to cover the whole car, you need an aluminum sleeve that is carried out under the bottom of the engine and reduces the temperature of the heater. Well, if these morons got off only with a bumper, you can imagine how expensive it will be to restore the wiring if it is not closed and there will be something to restore. There were cases when cars were burned whole. But my car has no problems with starting at all and in -30 without heaters, just good condition of the engine normal gasoline and charged battery from home

When the snow sounds like walking on styrofoam, it’s super cold. Use to live in far northern Maine and snow has much different sound when -40.

Fortunate enough to only have experienced -42c once and that sucked. Defa block and compartment heater + Webasto was a real must, but I only had a block heater and slim to no heater at all in my 79 Kadett. The windows started freezing faster than the heater thawed them and I had a 4 hour drive in front of me. That was great!

I experienced -6.C one time and that was lowest temp on record for my area and that was years ago. my freezer doesnt even go to -42.C.

@@steviebboy69 I can see that it would be pretty cold for you regardless, because your body is not used to the cold. If you were moved out of your environment and straight into -42 your body wouldn't be able to cope with it. I'm sure -6 was rough at the time. And that's coming from a guy where it's currently -20 and people walking around not even with benies or gloves. But I have to admit, lower than that is a struggle. 😅

@@AfroMyrdal in winter my house unheated is about 4.C, its actually warmer outside in winter in the day time so I open the windows. If i sit in the greenhouse its like summer in there. I do wear shorts in winter but its not that bad compared to what you get.

I never thought I would see someone cover a running engine block with a blanket.

When you hear that undeniable squeaky crunchy snow when you walk you know it's dam cold!

A small town in Northern Finland got down to -52⁰C and the town had two large cars running all day and night transporting people to their places of work, etc. People just called the cars and they came to get them. My record of car driving is +41. Imagine the suspension and the ride at that temperature.

❤️Tough people to endure such a climate. We don't have it as cold but it can get down to -25 with the wind shield factor only...once in a while during the winter. Try not to drive too much but we run the engine until it warms then drive with in town not over great distances.🙏 Thank you for sharing 👌

Here in the northern part of Canada it gets down to around -40C. To get my old diesel truck running at this temp I use the block heater, an oil pan heater, a battery heater, a battery trickle charger and a small space heater mounted under the hood. Blanket over the hood too!

I don't know how you guys live in the cold. I come from a tropical place, and cold is something that I can't do. I live in California now, where the weather suits me. For us out here, if it hits 50 degrees, that is too cold or even 60 without sunlight.

А пушку эту надо было в землю направить под мотором сделав подкоп в снегу . Но пушка сильный жар даёт может провода оплавить . Лучше паялкой минут 30

Короче эти придурки гофру металлическую на сопло не одели. Труба из фольги, которая для воздуховодов, вытяжек и т.д. Этот получившийся рукав направляется в поддон двигателя. Сам не раз так размораживал, проводка не плавиться. Ни фен, ни паяльник не помогут. Холод лютейший.

Ну не знаю, в -54 машина на "кипятильнике" за 40 минут до рабочего режима, жаль запрещено нынче провода из окон на постоянку кидать. Проблема больше с ходовой частью. Колёса квадратные и ехать не хотят. Пока их "скругишь", амортизаторы убить можно. Хотя эта зима тёплая выдалась, да и прошлая всего неделька за -40 переваливала. Так что скоро только старожилы будут такие морозы вспоминать.

I remember in northern Norway it was minus 30-32C, none of the cars would start without assistance except ours. It was a Saab 9-3. we put the key in the ignition and boom it worked. good times and crazy weather.

Wow, Minus 58 degrees !. In Ireland we complain about the cold when it's below 10 degrees lol 😂

Sulle macchine vecchie potevi proprio accenderci un fuoco sotto (il nonno di un mio amico mi raccontò che lo faceva quando guidava il camion). Ora non si può più fare perché ci sono troppe parti in plastica. Al massimo puoi accendere il fuoco di fianco e poi mettere i tizzoni sotto la macchina.

@@alessandronobile7843 si accendeva il fuoco sotti i camion per scaldare i tubi del gasolio, la paraffina si solidifica col freddo e blocca il flusso del gasolio. Oggi non serve hanno risolto il problema con un additivo nel carburante.

up at northern Canada during winters we don't shut off our engine. Especially diesel trucks we just keep them running all winter. Once you shut them off, after about 30min it will be ice cold and you will have insane trouble starting it back up...

Now you know why Ladas are built the way they are / were. In such a climate you need to pre-heat the oil (incl. gearbox and differentials), coolant and fuel.

One must leave the engine running, even when reached to destination. Full tank of fuel upon departure is mandatory. Excellent lessons learned with use of aviation type engine pre-warmers. Thermal blankets are ideal too, just as proper (oil change due?) viscosity for climate. Stored battery was no less than brilliant. I did that in the past, very worthwhile. Special X-Treme cold viscosity synthetic 0W30 oil, is recommended for engine start attempts at -58 C or -74 Fahrenheit.

Сигнализация с автозапуском - самое простое решение. Так живут местные люди. Накрывают на ночь и ставят запуск по температуре. Значительно экономят на топливе. Если авто будет работать без остановки расход топлива 7 литров. А если с автозапуском то 1 Литр

I would seriously consider installing either an insulated tank for holding warm coolant from previous use of the car or a tank that can be heated with something easily flammable.. Before starting the car just pump the already hot coolant through the engine. It would heat it up rather quickly since metal is such a great conductor of heat.

Ma la macchina non si e' accesa , si e solo sciolta ! Avrebbero dovuto aspettare ancora ,oppure potevano scaldare il serbatoio....

Ciao Lorenzo, grazie per i tuoi video che seguo con molto interesse e piacere. In particolare questo è interessantissimo perché racconta la vita di tutti i giorni a meno 50 gradi. Se possibile raccontaci ancora dei piccoli gesti quotidiani che noi diamo per scontato, e che personalmente a quelle temperature non riesco neanche lontanamente ad immaginare. Grazie

Ma lo disse pure Paolo Venturini che sono difficilmente replicabili.

The correct way is tiny electric heater dipped in oil through engine case. It is switched on for 30 mins or left overnight for extreme cold. At the first turns the pump picks up warm oil, engine starts and runs.

In these kind of conditions you either have warm garage or you don't turn off your engine until spring.

We are looking forward to a similar warm-up, just hold on longer ...
