The Isle Royale is the largest of Frost River's Isle Royale backpacks. It features a capacity of 45 litres, expandable to 81.5 litres. The expanded capacity means that each of the straps would be set to their longest point and the pack would be packed as full as you could get it.
It features 18oz waxed canvas construction, a double canvas bottom, an axe sleeve, 2 pockets, 2 slip pockets, 2 areas of lashing and compression and a map case in the top of the lid. The shoulder straps are padded buckskin, and high-stress areas are both rivetted and sewn throughout. Construction is all leather and brass.
If you want a pack that you buy once and hand down to your kids, this is the one. So if you need a rugged bushcraft pack, check out the Frost River Isle Royale.

Now a days, it's rare to see people who actually know how to take care of a canvas pack. Some leave theirs on the ground and damp areas, and then wonder why the bottom rotted out. These Isle Royal packs are excellent. We had Woods packs in Canada for a few decades, which are not made in Canada any more, but these are all hand made in the USA by caring, skilled people. Very well designed, very practical, and very traditional. The canvas smells great too.

It's a shame that "rugged bushcraft" packs must be taken care of and not left in damp conditions. Are they allowed to get dirty? His is one of the reasons a pack like the Isle Royale and similar is seen as a LARPER supreme.
