Frost Glass or Wine Glasses for Painting

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I am sharing how I frost glass before painting.
I am using Plaid Folk Art enamels Frost Medium.
Frosting glass before painting is super easy. I use two types of applicators for different textures.
Both are easy to acquire and just as simple to use.
Frosting glass before painting makes it easier for the beginner painter to learn to paint on glass. Frosting gives the surface a bit more 'tooth' so the paint adheres.
It is not necessary to frost glass before painting, it just creates texture and a finish that is a bit different.

    Does it scrap off easily once dried? If so, do you recommend some sort of matte sealant?

  • @PamelaGroppe

    @PamelaGroppe

    3 жыл бұрын

    Glass paint has a sealer in it, I have not had any issues with the paint scraping off at all so far. It would scrape off if you took a razor to it but other than that I don't think there is an issue. I always recommend hand washing and not the dishwasher even though glass paints claim to be dishwasher safe.

    Can you put a regular enamel color that is not frosted on first then let it dry for 24 hrs then put the frost medium on it and bake it? Or do I mix the frost medium with the color I want frosted before applying it to the surface?

    It sounds very doable, and should work as you can layer the enamels. Many use layers of paint to get opacity so I don't see why layering the frost on would be any different.

    I don't get it smooth, it is slightly bumpy with the sponge but going over it a second time helps to make it look smoother. The bumpiness doesn't bother me and really doesn't inhibit the beauty of whatever I paint on the frosted glass.

    Thank you so much for this video. I typically hate throwing away things that can be reused if cleaned so I recently started collecting all glass jars from pasta sauces and chip dips.. so i have alot 😅 I went on a hunt for painting techniques that i can use to make them stand out as i would like to use them for storing jewelry or candles (most likely battery operated but also real tea lights if it is safe) and your video of all the videos iv watched (iv watched like 10 so far in this hour alone) is the one that best helps me feel like i can do this and this will be fun... i cant wait to start! Also if possible, do you know if it would be safe to put little candles in the jar after painted? Id also love to try doing wine glasses 😍 i dont have any but you def inspired me. LASTLY THE YELLOW GLASS WITH FLOWERS is GORGEOUS. Going to shop for paint now. !! And sponges!!! ❤️❤️

    I know, I am so disappointed that they discontinued these. They do have just the Frost Effect medium only which maybe you could add a touch of color to with the paint but I haven't tried that yet. I get a bit peeved I try a product then they discontinue it not long after. I guess they follow trends.

    Though the paints are non-toxic it is always recommended to paint below the rim by 1/4 inch or more if it is drinkware as an extra precaution.
