Front Yard Foraging for CHICKWEED - with PREPSTEADERS
Front yard foraging is one of the most fun (and nutritious) things you can do with your family each spring! As everything comes to life in the yard, Chickweed (or Starweed, or Stellaria Media...or a million other names) will gladly take over if kept unchecked. Why not eat it! Many will say it is their very favorite forigable!

As a newlywed, I planted our first garden and found this to flourish more than some of my plants, lol. I didn't know its name but named it the 'one eyed giant.' I grew to think of it as an enemy I needed to vanquish from my garden. If only I knew back then that it was edible, it would have made those first years of gardening more fun. Boy did it grow fast and went from ground cover to nearly knee high in what seemed as a blink of the eye. I did grow without trying, purslane which now is something I look forward to foraging every summer. It doesn't grow in my new yard, but my brother's yard is full of plenty to share. So many good things God gave us, my kids and I are eager for morel mushrooms soon. Last year we began foraging mushrooms and ate 24 different kinds! We are addicted to the hunt! Ramps will arrive soon...oh how thankful I am for spring and all God blessed us with! ❤ Thanks- loved all the names! Kimmie Mama to 8 One homemade and 7 adopted
Love the verses in Luke. That time will also be during the tribulation; an exciting time to live!
A lifetime ago, when I lived with my grandparents as a child, my grandmother had a parakeet. She would send me out for a handful of chickweed then tie the bunch to the inside of his cage. He loved it and got a fresh bunch every day during the growing season.
My heavens...the Lord has provided us so many goodies...
I know you probably get this all the time, but you are a beautiful woman! Thank you for using your knowledge to help people prepare for where the world will be one day!!!
I DO. I have it in my front yeard. Thank you Jesus.👐🏻 I want to thank you too off course; Christa. You're a true light in dark times. 👏🏻I never knew it's so beneficial. Thank you for educating me. God bless you and yours 🙏
You are Blessed to be in Tennessee . I Remember Living there when I was a Kid. Best Few Years of my childhood. 8,9,10,11. I lived in South central Tenn Around Columbia. I Loved Going into the Hills and Fishing.
Thx. Much Love sent your way from Louisiana. May the LORD Jesus Christ always protect and richly bless you and yours!
Valuable information presented in a fabulous way and honoring our Heavenly Father while at it! He has prepared so many wonderful things for us and we don't even have to wait until heaven to experience some of them!
Excellent!! It'll be a while before I can look for it-just got 18" of snow (MN)-but I'll remember this! It never ceases to amaze me how much God provided for our nutritional needs right around us.
My daughter and I were taking a walk around our homestead recently and I was showing her different herbs growing here and there. I showed her chickweed and we tasted it...then we pulled a bunch to give to our chickens--who loved it! We had rain last night, so I will try to harvest some for us tomorrow and have some chickweed pesto! I want to tincture some to (I'm an herbalist) for myself for a couple of issues I'm dealing with. Great video! God bless!
chickweed is high in vitamins and minerals it is easy to dry for later use in soups and eggs great for any birds or little creatures you may have as a pet. The gardeners here curse it, I love it when you have a plant that is a problem eat it and then it is no longer a problem.
Oh my goodness that looks delicious and healthy. I never saw a chickweed before, thank u for the enlightenment. 🙏🙏🙏
Darn, your chick weed is so big. I walk around my yard and snack on it and that's as much as I get. This year I've bought seeds to plant in my new edible weed garden. Yummy. Thank you for that beautiful bible passage. I love the lord and love your channel. God Bless you sweet spirit.
Shout out to Tennesseans. Came to our aid at the Alamo. We will always remember
Excellent video! I had searched KZread about chickweed and still wasn't sure if I could identify it correctly, but now I can thanks to you. Wonderful job thank you again💕

going to check out my back yard for chickweed. i know i have plantain, hensbit, mints, sorrel, dandelions, and the velcro weed - lol.... good to be able to identify what is around you. Also....if you have property of any size besides identifying these kinds of plants i suggest people just plant herbs of all kinds in the property all over....make your own food forest of food!
Wait ! That's CHICKWEED! Its all over my yard! Did i just tell on myself? LOL I just learned something new today!!! Thank you for this very informative video!
Chickens love it, too! 😊
You had me at Tennessee. I love to tell folks that here in NE TN we live in a wild salad bowl. This is what is trying to take over our garden. Chickweed! Who knew lol.
Love chickweed! Either in the pot with all the other wild greens we can find in early spring, in the saute pan, or in the daily green smoothie. Great video - thanks for sharing.
I love that God provides an abundance of healthy edibles all over the world, foraging is such a blessing. Thanks so much for this wonderful spring video.
You started showing up in my you tube feed...so glad. Your videos are well made and a joy to listen to.
I love to sautee like shown in this video and then add just a little sesame oil and toss. It's so good. I was a big fan of seaweed salad but found out that dyes were added to get that pretty green color. So this is my substitute for that only I think it's actually better and much cheaper! I can have it anytime. It grows all over my yard. I'm in TN too.
Oh my...this grows all over my property.... I'll be making a dish with some tomorrow.
Chickweed is good-used to munch it as a kid. Tastes like a mix of peas and lettuce. Good stuff.
I'm soooo glad I found this channel! Thank you lovely lady. :-)
You're amazing, thank you for all the sharing you do and God Bless!
I just found out about chickweed this year. What a game changer!
Stir fry with all kinds of meat. Steam and dip with your favorite salsa dish or spicy dips. Soup dishes. I even it raw with my Thai papaya salads 👍❤️💯
We're under a storm watch and it's pouring down rain, otherwise I would run right out to pick some, because I'm sure I raked some out of my wildflower area. It was the most beautiful, thick mat of "weeds" I have ever seen in my yard. Perfect timing, thank you!
Thank you for the info. My dog has a cancer tumor on his leg, I will try to feed him some chickweed.
Wow didn’t realize we were both Tennesseean’s, the very best state in my opinion(of course) LOL Thank you for sharing this info, I really learned something new today. Chickweed grows in abundance, thank you for sharing this wealth of information, I need to start using this for sure. Blessings Krista, I appreciate your videos

I respect Tennessee but Texas is better.
You are a real Chrisian. It shows!!! Thanks for this info...my hens ate lots of chickweed...but now no more hens, and l was wondering how rich it was to eat...now l know! BTW ...MINER'S LETTUCE adds a nice bit of sour taste to mix in with this...and is everywhere and always tender...my Dad said the soldiers used it to go with their blah tasting army rations in WWII. Note Bene...if your edible wild greens grow under shingled roof runoff (or by rain downspouts l mean); It may be best to avoid it from there. The earth is both cursed 😬💥 & blessed 🙏👍...but we can sort it out with our knowledge 🍀 😊👍
I love putting chickweed in my stir fry beef!
yes! my macrobiotic friend tells me that it is also good for weight loss. I just put it into my green drinks. One other characteristic you didn't mention that is distinctive is that it's rather "stretchy" when you pull on it, trying to pull it out of the ground. yes, I find it everywhere in my yard, but I always have to rinse dirt out of it.
you're an angel!
I just foraged briar tops. So good sautéed with butter, salt and pepper.
Chickweed, dandelions, lambs quarters, wild onions, violets are all edibles. They’re all good too! I feel bad for people who don’t know this and have no desire to know it. I just bought seeds for dandelions, chickweed and purslane. Everything I plant in my yard is an edible.
Perfect timing for seeing this. My husband just told me this morning that the chickweed is coming up all over the backyard. Thanks.
Last year I watched this and couldn’t find ant. This year I found tons! We will have it sautéed for lunch.
Just found a patch of it growing in my raised vegetable bed a few days ago! Yaaay!
Last year my first foraging edible was purslane i think thats what its called.. You just gave me what ill look for in my area now a its spring. Im impressed since you said its good for Lungs! Thank you so much for this Video. You make Excellent videos and Your love of God shines within you. God Bless! ☺🌿👑🌿
Thank you....Yard is full of it now in early spring....made a delicious wrap!
You are a special blessing! Seriously! Valuable information delivered in a such a wonderful way. And the Blessing you give at the end of each video is a treasure. Watching your videos warms my heart and makes me smile inside.

If you have a favorite way of fixing it, do share, John! There are a lot of good ways to eat it and I love hearing about them all!
I never heard of chick weed but I really enjoying learning about foods that are on the ground
What beautiful woman.. A blessing to ma kind.. I also eat the chickweed, and portulaca that is in my garden, also when the pig weed, or lambs quarters is young, it is great raw or boiled like spinach, and is very high in Iron.. God bless you my dear, you have another subscriber.?
Well, last year me and a couple of guys pulled about a ton of chickweed, purslane and spurge from an ailing, close friend's flower beds. But I never considering eating the chickweed or purslane. It wasn't quite a ton but it did fill up two Skid Steer buckets! Ha! Felt like a ton...
It just rained last night. Going out to look for some in a bit. Thank you for your videos! I learn so much and love the verses you read at the end. G-d bless you and all connected. ❤

Guess what? God sent His Son for the high points yes. But also He served as a sign that God does want a relationship with us. In doing so, He gave us His Name. And in doing so, He does show us that yes be reverent, but you don't have to follow whatever theology you hold by hiding the "o" in God......
Loved it! Even raw.
Just discovered your channel. You are great. God bless you and your ministry!
Amazing! When I think how I used to struggle with getting it out of my yard. I hope have it here at my new home! Can't wait to try it.

I love the word of god thank you god bless you
I learned so much!!! Thank you!! I will be trying this. God has blessed us with so much and we don’t even see it. I love making salves and I will be doing more research on using chickweed for this too. Thank you for sharing and God richly bless you❤️

@@PREPSTEADERS what is miner's lettuce??? oh thank you for helping me identify this as Chickweed!. i've been eating it in the Spring/Summer here but have traveled a mile or two to find my favorite, Stinging Nettles! Until now i only ate it out in the yard like you were in video because even though i gave it the taste and rubbing on inner arm test, i didn't know what it was! i LOVE Pesto! so i will be utilizing all of it in my yard this year instead of tearing it out and yes, it is pithy when it gets taller. What really amazes me is i've been buying Chickweed salve for years and it is wonderful for dry and chapped skin.
Stay safe with the bad weather coming. God bless you
yes mam! I have this all over my yard. i never knew about chick weed. Thats cool can't wait till our weather stays in warmer temps on days I dont have to work.
Wow. Surprisingly delicious

Spring is coming late here in Michigan this year but I will be watching for it always heard the name and new what it look like, but never knew it was great to consume thank you :)
I have TONS of it. And it’s so yummy. Thanks for sharing
Thank you. Very clear how to reconise it!
Thank you for your channel and for this video in particular. God bless!
thanks for this. Excellent identification information. The hairy ridge is a very good identifier. I feel pithy myself sometimes and am really looking forward to trying your recipes. Here in Texas mine is about gone but I think I can find enough to try with the butter and onions. Thanks again. God Bless you.
Great info you gave-Great verse you read- thanks
Thumbs up thank you.♥️
Thank you again for you time and generosity.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and faith..
i can't wait for our 4 feet of snow to melt up here in Quebec!! Then I will definitely run outside to look for some! Merci !!
Great info, keep it coming!
thank you for that bit of information. I will try it out.
You mentioned it likes shady places and I say the best leaves and height comes from shade either from larger plants or manmade shade. I put rabbit fencing with weed fabric draped over it to make the chickweed fat leaved and juicy. The only side effect I have had is the cleaning out that it might do as that spring rawness goes through ya!
Great video and nice to see you again! Thank you for the numerous detailed photos!
Love you and your channel. You have the best videos that are so useful. And especially love the scripture readings you share. Be well.
I LOVE this video! I can hardly wait to try chickweed! I hope I can find some. Thank you! ❤

Awsome. I remember my mother talking about these greens. I’m going to look for some today. Thank you so much 😊
Awesome, thank you for this video
It's a natural diuretic. Don't know why this benefit is overlooked by many information sources and newer herbal books. I learned of it 40 years ago. In horticulture class we were taught "Mouse eared Chickweed". To me it tastes similar to young corn silks, not the dry brown ones.
well done again, thanks for your insight..bless Yah...doug
I'm a new subscriber and excited that you're in Tenn as we just moved to NE Tenn and this is our first spring here, we have pretty weeds in the grass, wild flowers and a whole mess of plants that I'm trying to figure out what they all are. I'm going out to see if we have any of these plants!
