I cannot believe you are here!!! I live in Wickford. From a long line of the Ryan Family who owned a market in the downtown which is now a kayaking center. These beautiful Historic homes are truly magnetic and beautiful. Hoped you too the walk behind the Main Street of those homes, as they are on the water. My father was a longtime fisherman who docked more than one boat in those waters! Geez I wished I knew you were coming❤

I couldn’t believe my eyes and ears! Wickford, the town my dad’s hardware store, Barber Hardware, was located on 17 Brown Street. That street is the major retail street. Well, in my day, over 50 years ago. Our home was a mile outside of Wickford. As a youngster, my sister and friend would walk or ride our bikes on the back road to town. Recall Drug was there and had a true soda fountain. You could get a hotdog and coke for 25 cents! Boy oh boy, dating myself. Ryan’s Market was a grocery store that had the best meats. It was owned by 5 brothers. Wickford Elementary was the grammer school I went to grades 1-6, then junior high, and North Kingstown High school that is still open. Memory lane. Have you been to the antique store named Garden Gate? It is just outside of the village and used to be a gift store. It is my goal to get there, my sisters-in-laws have been and loved it. On another note, putting the pot holder over the handle of the spinach pie oven pan is a great idea! I have grabbed onto a hot handle and it wasn’t pretty!

Lodge makes a handle cover over the handle made from silicone useful for all handles do there is no accidental burning. I use a titanium set. The handles come off. It costs $3000.00 for the starter set. I never burn myself with that set. I love the silent processor. I don’t have to cut or mince things with knives. I am going to make the spinach, even that has more oxalates may not help me..

Dear Linda, i am grateful for your reminders to slow down, enjoy the journey ( off the fast path) and find beauty in many gifts to be found along the path. I would have been so discouraged by all the closed shops, but you found ice cream for dinner and coffee and sweets to indulge! You chose joy and peace for your heart (and anxiety). Such a great reminder, again, to stop chasing perfection and find beauty in life. Loved this video and your transparency about your pie!!! So me!! Yes! I no longer drive and haven't seen Wickford, or East Greenwich in over a decade. I lived in Wickford and East Greenwich in the 60s through early 80s. Yes, East Greenwich pronounced 'Gren itch', also referred to as 'East G'. The more historical homes are 'upstreet' or in the Peirce Street area, up from the old Courthouse. 'Downstreet', on & near the water, (King, Queen, Duke, streets etc) also have colonial homes. I relished living in Wickford, sailed frequently, was married in the Old Narragansett Church (located through the St Paul's Episcopal Church community center garden). It's the church portrait painter Gilbert Stuart was baptized in (and so were my nieces & son). I have now lived in New Hampshire for over 30 years and am very familiar with your beautiful area, as I live quite close by. New England is a Blessing to be sure! Thank you so much for the lovely trips.

Wickford is where John Updike's, "The Witches of Eastwick" is set. The town features a large Witches Parade at Halloween. Quite the scene! There are lots of witches in RI! On a historical note, Roger Williams departed from the Puritans, and founded RI based on religious freedom. That's why the oldest Episcopal Church and Synagogue in America are located in RI. The Wicca's left with Roger Williams, too! In the summer Wickford hosts a wonderful Garden Tour, Art Fair, and Water-fire celebrations in their harbor. At Christmas they have a lovely Holiday Fair. I'm sorry more shops weren't open when you visited. "The Mermaid's Purl" is wonderful for all types of needlework. BTW -the next town over - is pronounced East "Grěn-itch".

Thank you and I did not know about the filming... It all makes sense now since every time I watch the movie, I try to figure out what New England town they are in. If I looked it up in the past, it was before I ever traveled to Warwick. The man who played the pastor in the movie helped us out with a live auction one year, way back when, in Ipswich, MA. I guess I could have asked him then LOL.

Greetings from RI, Linda. After many years of visiting RI (specifically Newport), my late husband and I moved up here from Newtown, CT - another beautiful NE town - in 2004 to be closer to our daughter. She lives in Saunderstown; Wickford is her "downtown." My grandson currently resides in East Greenwich, and I'm in Wakefield. Here East Greenwich is pronounced the same as the town in CT. Glad you featured our little part of the world.

I live in California’ where people drive way over the 65 mile speed limit on freeways all the time! The only time they don’t is when sitting in mass amounts of traffic. There are fatal accidents everyday on freeways and surface roads. We have the nastiest rudeness drivers. I have no choice as I have to use toll roads and freeways to get to certain places inland from the coast. I really love New England! The most beautiful part of the US I ever been! My family lived in Pepperell many, many years ago, and I have such fond memories. Even though I was just a teenager, Massachusetts and New Hampshire spoke to my soul. It just felt right for me, living there. I always thought I might move back but it didnt happen. I've been telling my daughter I'd like to go visit New England again and yesterday she surprised me and said she'd pay for our tickets to go, maybe next spring. We have to work out the details. It's been a long time coming. I'm so excited and filled with childish anticipation..lol I've been taking note of some of the places you and Carla have visited on your channels. Linda, your tours always make me homesick for NE. I lived in CT for 10 years and miss it and surrounding areas very much. We live in AZ now but it doesn’t have the shops and charm that NE has. Thanks! Mandy

Gorgeous video as always. 💕 I can completely relate to the highway anxiety, I’m the same way - especially in Massachusetts! 🤭 Driving the backroads may not be as efficient but it’s much more pleasant!

Love all your videos but this one hit close to my heart. I live in Rhode Island and have the pleasure of visiting Wickford and East Greenwich (said "East Gren-itch")😂 often. The walk on Main St in Wickford is simply lovely with the hidden gardens and old homes. The antique shop near the end of Main St (not the ocean end) actually had a part of an old prop plane which was so fascinating. Of course I watched your spinach pie making and realized you were baking the Greek version. I'm partial to the Italian version which is like a calzone with black olives , Italian seasonings, mozzarella and sometimes pepperoni. I'll try your recipe as it looks yummy. Thank you for sharing your travels et al with us!!

Happy Fourth of July, Linda! And to all your fellow Americans! As one of your Australian friends and followers, I loved hearing you mention New England in Australia! It's a beautiful, picturesque part of the country in the great state of New South Wales, and I have never seen the reverse version of our traditional flag, so that was somewhat of a treat! I thoroughly enjoyed coming along on your travels in this video. So many pretty, charming homes and gardens to see! Thank you. Lots of love, Sarah xo

I love watching your channel Linda . As a Brit, I often look at the towns and villages you visit ,and think how much they could be in the South East of England . I live in Groton (pronounced with a long o here ) , in the UK , the countryside could be where you lived , and lived ! ❤

I love hearing about towns our towns were named after! Funny how we for some reason changed the Groton pronunciation. It sounds prettier with the long O. Vs one that rhymes with cotton.

I did wonder if the short O pronunciation is the original old English , it does sound like something our ancestors would say! I do prefer to long pronunciation though. John Winthrop was born a mile away from me ,in Edwardstone , I’m sure you know all about this as your family history is part of the amazing story of how America came to be ! Your channel is a haven for those who are looking for something special, to make life better. and more joyful. I always look forward to your next video!

Why did I never visit Wickford when I lived there? one of many beautiful New England towns. I especially love all the flower boxes on all the buildings. All are beautiful but some are truly glorious. I would definitely have to get out of bed for that sweet face staring at me! Wonderful video. Ice cream for lunch! Yes!

Thank you for the info on the paint colors, Linda! After being in an accident on a busy hwy involving a tractor trailer, I too do not like driving on busy highways! No one was hurt, thankfully, but the sound of the metal and screeching tires still stays with me. I really enjoyed this video! They’re always fun to watch!

I had anxiety with regard to driving on highways as well. I pretty much kept it hidden. Once I was no longer required to do so and help with the care of my Dad, I came clean. I couldn't believe how many people were in the same boat. A weight was lifted.

Linda what a wonderful video and thank you for filming the charming and historic towns in New England. I really appreciate your thoughtfulness in showing and telling us about New England. It is trip I want to make in the near future. I am drawn to New England although I am a native Californian. I wonder if I have ancestors from New England ? Have a wonderful week. Love Willow. ♥️
