The post-big 3 era proved that he was the best coach in the NBA. The mark of an elite coach is being able to win without having a lot of talent on the roster.

Coach Spo is a legend for a reason. When I was watching the heat during the big 3 days, he learned from 2011 and showed massive growth from then on. 2013 was one of his spotlight moments and I am happy that he's still making massive noise in the NBA today.

@Arraez 4 MVP you can say the same thing about pat riley, phil jackson, etc. Give the ball to Kobe, Shaq, MJ, Pippen, Magic, Kareem and get out the way! Even Greg Popovich had the greatest power forward to ever play the game. So at the end of the day all great coaches have great players. Spo coached the Heat as good as one could especially with all the expectations placed on those big 3 teams.

I was impressed that he was able to handle all those stars in Miami back in 2010….even more impressive that he has coached undrafted talent to the big show.
So sad he never won COACH OF THE YEAR when obviously he has the accolades to earn it. Where are the other awardees of the COY now? They are unemployed, while this guy is still coaching for 15 straight seasons. The Filipinos are proud of you coach ! Win or lose we will always be by your side!
There is a lot of lesson to learn in this Miami story that we can apply in real life hope they will get the ring for better happy ending.
Think about this, Pat Riley has been involved in TWENTY FIVE PERCENT of all NBA finals as a player, coach and/or GM. One person tied to 1/4 of ALL NBA FINALS... and he was the guy who recognized Spo in the tape room, brought him along courtside, elevated him to assistant coach and then handed the reigns over to Spo when he took over as GM. This is why I refer to them as the collective individual "Spo'Riley"(not mine but IDK where I cribbed it from), there was no real drop off from one to the other and we've only gotten better as a team :)
I love the fact that Kris London is just chilling in the background 😂😂
Erik Spoelstra has come a long way
what pisses me off is that he has NOT won Coach of the Year. I agree 100% with K Perkins. a lot of those COY coaches in his 15 years active coaching are either fired or unemployed. I believe these hypocrite voters have their knives out against the guy.

He mentions that his father Jon has been fired several times...one of those times was as the president of the Nuggets around 1990. Maybe extra motivation! (Although he got a nice severance...used it to buy a house in Maui, thereafter known as the"Nugget House")
LeBron and Wade helped Spo in his learning years. Now he's killing it with 1 superstar instead of 3 along with few stars at different stages and a squad of young, undrafted players who WORK. Doesn't have to look pretty to be effective. Riley knew what he was doing with all this. Btw, Cleveland forgives. Go Cavs

If you impressed Pat Riley so much with your basketball IQ that he felt he had to give you the keys to the kingdom at such a young age before any other team snags you, thats saying something. And the man started from about the bottom of basketball operations and he had to climb up the ranks on his own merit, and he wasnt even keen on becoming a coach, Pat kinda imposed it on him cause he saw something.

The Asian Americans definitely have the intelligence, capability and talent to be good head coaches in the nba. So how come it's only Erik Spoelstra who is an Asian American coach in the entire nba? When they say equality in coaching, the default setting is to hire black coaches. The Asian Americans are not even considered but they are highly capable.
