Kyu Sakamoto, famous Japanese singer, tragically died in a plane crash in 1985. A singer "Sukiyaki" (English) Russian (in the American release, the original title is "Ue o Muite Arukou"), which topped the American national chart for three weeks and sold millions of copies worldwide. To this day, he remains the only Japanese artist who has been in the first place on the Billboard.
Plot
The action of the plot takes place in 1963 in Yokohama (the prototype of the scene was the Yamate district). The heroine, Umi Matsuzaki, has a father, a ship commander, who died during the Korean War 10 years ago, when she was still a little girl. While her mother is away, the girl has to take over the household, in particular, remember to raise signal flags every morning with the message: "I wish you a happy voyage!" - such a rule was set by the father in order to see from the sea that he was expected at home.
The town has a school club with a variety of interest sections. They want to close the club, especially since the building in which it is based is already dilapidated. And so Umi, along with other school activists, decides to go to Tokyo to the school sponsor in order to save the house from destruction. Against the background of social activities, the first love wakes up.
