From Trieste to Genova, the circumnavigation of Italy with a Mini 6.50

On December 14th I went to Muggia (Trieste) with my boat for the presentation of the Mini-Transat project.
On the way home .... strack! We broke something, and so we decided to turn back to Muggia.
Bad luck has turned into luck; I had the opportunity to do the work together with a super shore team who took care of my boat.
After the work, I sailed up from Muggia on January 23, to arrive in time for the training in Genoa for February 13 with the coach Ambrogio Beccaria ... in short, an opportunity not to be missed!
The wind was almost always favorable and allowed me to run down the Adriatic and go up the Tyrrhenian well.
... small problems with batteries ...
Not having carefully controlled consumption, recharge times, and especially the winter season, I found myself doing 3 nights awake!
The solutions were:
1) stop in a port and rest
2) stop the boat adjusting the boat e take a nap
3) or pull straight and take advantage of the favorable wind to get to training on time
I chose the 3rd option, with a small pit stop in Leuca.
Crossing the Ionian Sea in a certain moment i fall in a complete calm until the mouth of the Strait of Messina, without batteries, with 2 nights awake and also without petrol!
I was beginning to have hallucinations from sleep, and like a godsend, I found a passage, a tow, from a German sailboat to Reggio Calabria.

In Reggio Calabria with Lorenzo we managed to find a suitable charger (I have lithium batteries) and restart the batteries.
Sailing in two people went much better, even if the inconveniences recurred and we had to sail one night without electronic instruments because the batteries had gone down again.
We managed to navigate and repair in time in Procida, before the arrival of the storm force 7!
From Procida we continued up to the Argentario where Lorenzo went down, and where I had time to rest a bit before the final rash ... Argentario-Genoa 150miles of gliding !!!
24h at the helm and 40 minutes of sleep .... I still have to instruct Bigio, my autopilot, to steer well at those speeds.
When I entered in the port of Genoa around 2 am, I realized that I was in the wrong port; with difficulty I regain my strength (by now few) I hoisted again the sails, I went outside and I go towards the tourist port ... what waves !!!
Upon my arrival I had not noticed how big they were, I had them in the stern, but then for the route from the old port to the marina I had them sideways and let's say they didn't leave me really quiet!
More or less they came halfway between the deck of the boat and the first cross ... for safety I had also closed the door of the boat, every now and then some brushing came on board! It was the waves of a storm that was coming.
I had left just in time to navigate a favorable weather window.
As if this were not enough, when I entered the entrance channel of the new port, at a certain moment I found myself in front of a wall where the waves crashed, I had left the entrance channel marked by red and green lights .. 😱 I was almost in danger of going against it .
Surely those who sail know how difficult it is to enter a port that is unknown at night, track down the red and green lights, and worse still follow an entrance channel marked by multiple red and green lights, in the midst of all the glow of lights of the city.
Luckily everything went well, and above all I managed to get there in time for the training 💪🏻 .... that have definitely finished me to exhaust 😆 now it would take me a really nice holiday in the mountains

Sarebbe ora di montare anche un MINIEOLICO per la sempre carica delle batterie. il carburante di una barca a vela è il VENTO.

Metti bene quei pannelli. Così non caricano nulla! Nessuna porzione deve essere all'ombra altrimenti non rendono. Ciaooooo 👋🏻
Grandissima! Ma non capisco perché non ti porti una tanica extra per emergenza. E già che ci siamo anche extra batterie. Sono problemi ricorrenti. No? Suppongo ci sia un motivo per non farlo?

La barca essendo una barca da regata va molto bene a vela .... se c’è un po’ di vento 😅 una tanichina in più farebbe comodo, ma non avevo voglia di portarla per l’ingrombro e la puzza. Per le batterie puó capitare andando solo a pannelli solari, era inverno e ho preso 3giorni di nuvole

Più che altro mi ricordo un nostro caro amico Skipper Renzo Favaro con il suo Falconera che durante le bonacce oceaniche evitava di accendere il motore perché purtroppo sarebbe cambiato poco! Fanno più paura le bonacce delle tempeste! Ancora i miei complimenti per la simpatia e la grande professionalità che fai trasparire!

Per fortuna è andato tutto bene. Audace per i rischi corsi.Tuttavia non si può dire che il tuo comportamento sia stato in sintonia con l'arte marinara e della navigazione. Sbagliare un porto come quello di Genova significa navigare a caso senza carte e rotta. Batterie sempre scariche; anche questo prevedibile. Tutto è affidato alla fortuna e al caso . Prima di Procida burrasca forza 7 appena evitata( non per calcolo ma per c..lo). Il mare si sa è clemente. Va bene tutto. Il problema è che in caso di grave incidente, pedita della barca o della vita, si alzerebbe un putiferio su tutti i velisti d'Italia con nuovi obblighi di assurde ulteriori patenti e mezzi di salvataggio e restrizioni all'attivià diportistica. Con un grosso danno per tutti. Buon vento comunque. Ciao

L'arte marinara è anche quella di riuscire a risolvere i problemi e gli inconvenienti che ti capitano in navigazione ;) - Batterie scariche perché ricaricando solo con pannelli solari, nei giorni nuvolosi e invernali la ricarica era molto inferiore rispetto i giorni estivi. - Burrasca evitata calcolando benissimo i tempi di arrivo, non è stato assolutamente un caso, e se non fossimo arrivati in tempo avremmo cmq scelto un porto più vicino. - Il disguido del porto è stata per una incomprensione con l'organizzazione. (la sede a terra è nel porto antico, mentre a mare nel porto nuovo) Buon mare e buon vento ;)
