Also: love the quiet, the silence in these old videos. Reminds me of how much noise we live with now.
Wow, what a wonderful collection of journalism. The art of silence becomes comfortable in the presence of historic, heartbreaking, and entertaining photographs. The viewer is able to sit, and soak in images, and sounds with enough time to process their magnitude. Bravo, Sunday Morning!
Amazing archives there. Thanks for sharing these works!
Incredible work!
The book is fantastic! One of the best photography book I have.
I loved this episode so much.
Ahhh!!! These are great! Got more? Unique cultural musical design etc icons? Pure love. ❤
the NY subway system in the early 80's was a real dangerous place. I'm surprized Davidson was only mugged once

Really a great Story;) Thank you. As a Photographer I love these old good Stories🍀👏📷
I remember those days well. Great profile.
Important components of the history of photography in the world.. Thanks for sharing.
Masterpiece
Very inspiring, thanks!
The first segment, how refreshing Not to see cellphones. People were actually reading a newspaper. Yes this was before people turned into Pavlov’s dog. I have yet to see a person answer their phone in public calmly!
Very enjoyable 🎉
Love this. Takes me back to my early days n NYC. I’ve forgotten things, like how “tagged” by graffiti the inside of cars used to be!
Great video
Great stories! I haven't finished the video yet, but I just thought to myself concerning the pics of people working, laboring...if not already, there should be a museum dedicated to nothing but pics like these, from around the world before technology became even more so prominent in today's world.
@26:00 ".. I was told that you could make me look exactly like Julia Roberts." 🤣
Nice!
There is always a show going on the streets and subway of New York City. Once my eyes were opened I always am aware of it going on around me. It is great when I have a camera with me to capture the scene around me. I stand on the shoulders of great photographers that came before me. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
I’m not understanding how you all could do an archived story of photographers capturing great world & American moments & not include Gordon Parks.
That is a REAL photo journalist! The NYC subway is more like a war zone than a church. I'm working on a subway project but I don't have the guts to go up to people directly. I'm always in stealth mode.
4:53, Flash lesson.
Your videos are becoming more and more premium content Alex. Not seen this clip before, it reminds me of ‘everybody street’ I’m so greatful these guys who had the foresight to take these historic photos
Nice green f2 that first guy is rocking…
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
NYC subway looked hideous back then. Then as now the city is out of control. Nice photos, some. But a lot of them showed subjects that looked miserable having to deal with it.
Wow... Great video. I wonder if the subway is trashed like this today? Probably. Pretty creepy.

Not bad at all in pre-Covid days, but can be dicey depending on what line you’re on and what time.
Worlds within worlds within worlds...
These days this would not be possible. You would get beaten and robbed. 😢

Unless you can blend in or are packing. A fellow I knew did street photography but he was a retired cop and would carry at all times.
Maybe I missing something or maybe it the film but I see a lick of clarity !!! That is what photography is all about...

Probably not everyone could afford a Leica 😉

@@waynethorn7218Back in the 70s-80s, Leicas were very affordable, slightly more than Nikons.
These days you would get beat up.
The Bruce Davidson story shows what a mess the subway system was -- graffiti everywhere, making the trains look filthy. Every idiot with a can of spray paint could add his own ugly scrawl to a poorly maintained subway.
