    It’s Mangini’s sound from his studio sent in stereo to LM. Nobody ever lets the guy engineer his own sound is why this is so much better.

    I had the priveledge of seeing Mike in a drum clinic way back in 2002 or 2003 and it was life changing. He is in a class of his own when it comes to education. I am so happy for him within his success with Dream Theater. All the best Mr.Mangini!

    I love the explanation at 56:15. My very 1st drum teacher told me if you can't sing it, say it, or hum it you will never play it!! Ever!!!

    How lucky are we to be able to, for 90 minutes, tap into the mind of possibly the best drummer to ever walk this planet while getting focused explanations behind his drumming. It’s my opinion that no one is better than Mike Mangini. What a gift to music...

    Oh my gosh! This may be the greatest drum video I've ever seen. He's always been in my top 3, but Mike may be my favorite drummer of all time now. What a fantastic person and personality.

    28:40 absolutely agreed... I`m always doing this just to stimulate my drumming and practicing. Imagining you`re doing the gig or the audition gives me the kind of `state` of being pressured too and how to deal with it. It`s like that I`m really playing for other to judge me and when I know that I`m not doing good I look back and try to improve it. Record yourself is another great way to teach yourself.

    can i just say i knew he was going to get the gig when i watched that dream theater audition video... derek roddy is my guy, don't get me wrong, but mike just fit right in there instantly. the rest of the guys who auditioned were amazing too, but there can only be one!

    I was blessed to play with some amazing drummers, like Stan Almond from England living in lower mainland in Van. He designed the first double kick that I ever saw.

    All Shure mics. SM98s on the toms, Beta52 in the kicks and on the gong drums, KSM137 on the overheads, and he usually uses an SM57 on the snare but in this video it looks like it's an SM58, which is the same mic internally, just with the windscreen.

    Portnoy has nothing to do with this. Plus, he is sloppy. “heart” = excuse for why the DT, AX7 and more won’t go near him again. Portnoy could NEVER do what this guy just did here or in DT or anywhere. Go listen to him and comment on his posts. You make no sense here.

    Visualising doesn’t require sight dude... I’m sure your still able to visualise things in your mind without the aid of electro-photon information. In fact... Visualising geometric patterns to aid your poly-rhythmic drum patterns might be easier for a non sighted drummer. I know that I need to close my eyes to focus on complex things.

    @@jaym6906 you have no idea what I would like to say to you although have you ever heard of accessibility mode so blind people can dictate and your phone reads back the printed material to you? Apparently you’ve never heard of talking to Computers either… Maybe you need to educate yourself on people with disabilities, so sorry you are as ignorant as apparently what you are!!! I got my first talking computer back in 1988 when it was Doss, 386 if I can remember back that far and just for a heads up Siri doesn’t always dictate words spelled correctly so if there are spelling errors and it sounds correct as she reads it back then I post it!

    @@pipps1158 exactly, I visualize in my mind where the drums/symbols/bell R and then work my way around the kit… It’s also body memory… Actually it’s a lot of memorizing everything that has to do with playing, I woke up one morning at the age of 58 and decided I wanted to learn to play drums because as a young teen I wanted to learn although my parents put a kibosh on that so here I am now trying to learn

    @@jaym6906 oh and I can actually ride horses also galloping across a field just because people have no vision does not mean they can’t live life to the fullest we don’t have to sit back in a corner and expect sighted people to come and do everything for us and my guide dog gets me around probably safer than a sighted person🦮
