Thanks Mike for being a sport through all our questions. I appreciate your humbleness towards us. You seem like a really nice and approachable guy.
In 25 years have never heard Mangini's drums mic'd to sound anywhere near as good as this before!!!! Well done L&M!!!!

It’s Mangini’s sound from his studio sent in stereo to LM. Nobody ever lets the guy engineer his own sound is why this is so much better.

@@jaym6906 Oh nice. Well every time I heard him w Vai his toms sounded bleh. This sounds so nice!
Mike Mangini is truly one of the most technically gifted players to ever pick up a pair of sticks. Love his playing with Dream Theater!!
I had the priveledge of seeing Mike in a drum clinic way back in 2002 or 2003 and it was life changing. He is in a class of his own when it comes to education. I am so happy for him within his success with Dream Theater. All the best Mr.Mangini!

I don't know what i enjoy more Whats coming from mike's limbs or his mouth! What a wonderful player and human being!🤘🏻
Mike, you are awesome on the drums... Seriously. And I have to say you've got probably one of the best personalities out there. You are humble yet a monster on the drums. My hats off to you.
I'm totally into Mike's coolness in teaching and demonstration abilities. He's a master musician.
I love the explanation at 56:15. My very 1st drum teacher told me if you can't sing it, say it, or hum it you will never play it!! Ever!!!
How lucky are we to be able to, for 90 minutes, tap into the mind of possibly the best drummer to ever walk this planet while getting focused explanations behind his drumming. It’s my opinion that no one is better than Mike Mangini. What a gift to music...

hard to argue with that comment... except for the planet part since the earth is flat, but other than that, mike is the GOAT
Drumming aside for a sec; he is such a great guy.
I LOVE THIS GUY!!!! Such a monster player but such joy comes from sharing his vast insight to drumming!!
Mike Mangini saying: Trust me! LOL, as if someone would not trust this guy :-) Awesome attitude by the way
Mike thanks for the wisdom
Awesome drummer, teacher, artist, genius.
Best drummer and best teacher
Oh my gosh! This may be the greatest drum video I've ever seen. He's always been in my top 3, but Mike may be my favorite drummer of all time now. What a fantastic person and personality.
Mike "THE MAN" Mangini!! Absolutely Amazing!!!!!!!!!
A lot of drum teachers have big egos. I like how Mike teaches because he prefers to teach by playing his instruments.
mike absolutely killed it with this lesson
Mike's voice sounds awesome in this recording 😃
A true gentleman and awesome player. THANKS MIKE
Mangini is the teacher I wish to had.

28:40 absolutely agreed... I`m always doing this just to stimulate my drumming and practicing. Imagining you`re doing the gig or the audition gives me the kind of `state` of being pressured too and how to deal with it. It`s like that I`m really playing for other to judge me and when I know that I`m not doing good I look back and try to improve it. Record yourself is another great way to teach yourself.
great drummer , beautiful person
Very enjoyable, a big thank-you to Mike and everyone involved with this special L&M presentation...Cheers
listening to Mike chuckle gleefully while play flawlessly is a real pleasure.
Thank YOU Mike! Great stuff!!!!
best drum teacher ever
It was a useful clinic thanks to Mike and L&M.
Mike is a fantastic drummer!!!
Love this guy..he's truly Master..
Love this video. Thank you
Mike, love the content and format. Please get a larger monitor for reading the comments/questions, so you can keep the mic close to your mouth. Or, get a headset. Would be more enjoyable for the audience. Don M.
Top notch what a legend!
Awesome vibe.
Thanks for sharing this, L&M, and keeping it up on your channel after the fact. Mike is a god, and he's the perfect guy for this type of thing.

can i just say i knew he was going to get the gig when i watched that dream theater audition video... derek roddy is my guy, don't get me wrong, but mike just fit right in there instantly. the rest of the guys who auditioned were amazing too, but there can only be one!

Can you explain me the intro to pale blue dot the fast extreme ride symbol and how you develop that technique and why you don't even talk about that in your behind the scenes pale blue dot video
Молодец!!!
I was blessed to play with some amazing drummers, like Stan Almond from England living in lower mainland in Van. He designed the first double kick that I ever saw.
i just tuned in to see what the guy was doing, for five minutes. one hour later i'm still watching the dude explaining how he bangs away on drums. i'm not even a drummer.
Favorite movie?
형님 사랑합니다.
How are we cep up on that drumset odiot
Mike should address how he writes to new songs that would be awesome.
Is the snare birch and mahogany???
What happened to the 6" tom

Mike is glad he doesn't live next door to me, I'd bug the shit out of him.

All Shure mics. SM98s on the toms, Beta52 in the kicks and on the gong drums, KSM137 on the overheads, and he usually uses an SM57 on the snare but in this video it looks like it's an SM58, which is the same mic internally, just with the windscreen.
I prefer MP 🤔
Mike sounds like Jeff Indyke!!!! Bahahaha!!

MIKE PORTNOY plays with HEART inst overacting the songs

Portnoy has nothing to do with this. Plus, he is sloppy. “heart” = excuse for why the DT, AX7 and more won’t go near him again. Portnoy could NEVER do what this guy just did here or in DT or anywhere. Go listen to him and comment on his posts. You make no sense here.

Visualising doesn’t require sight dude... I’m sure your still able to visualise things in your mind without the aid of electro-photon information. In fact... Visualising geometric patterns to aid your poly-rhythmic drum patterns might be easier for a non sighted drummer. I know that I need to close my eyes to focus on complex things.

@@jaym6906 you have no idea what I would like to say to you although have you ever heard of accessibility mode so blind people can dictate and your phone reads back the printed material to you? Apparently you’ve never heard of talking to Computers either… Maybe you need to educate yourself on people with disabilities, so sorry you are as ignorant as apparently what you are!!! I got my first talking computer back in 1988 when it was Doss, 386 if I can remember back that far and just for a heads up Siri doesn’t always dictate words spelled correctly so if there are spelling errors and it sounds correct as she reads it back then I post it!

@@jaym6906 oh and I can actually ride horses also galloping across a field just because people have no vision does not mean they can’t live life to the fullest we don’t have to sit back in a corner and expect sighted people to come and do everything for us and my guide dog gets me around probably safer than a sighted person🦮
