From the Concrete To The Trailer! /Boat Recovery!
Ойын-сауық
As like anything, what can go wrong will go wrong so you have to be on the defense to keep things from happening. Time and Time again we’ve seen it. No Safety Chain Means when Pulling out on a Steep Ramp, the Boat is willing to slide off of the trailer. Last night was no different. While we missed the shot because we were out on the water. We were able to make it for the recovery! Enjoy!

Working as a Tech at a marina, I’ve done several of those recoveries, and there’s a much better way. Secure boat as they did, but then unhook the trailer from the truck, then crank the winch, which slides the trailer under the boat, without dragging the stern. Then just hook her back up, and drive off into the sunset.

How do you keep the trailer from running down the ramp?
@peglegjim57

@@TheBigDanShow The boat is secured by the wrecker, so it won’t roll back. Winch boat up to bow stop, and the boat will drop slowly as it gets closer to the stop, and can easily be hitched to the truck again. I’ve done it dozens of times over the years working for a marina. It’s the same technique used to get a boat laying on the ground on a trailer again. Keep in mind, this video below shows a bunk trailer, but the video we’re talking about had a roller trailer, and that’s 10X easier than a bunk trailer. kzread.info/dash/bejne/gpqJpaObZ9zdpbQ.htmlsi=HCqaKiFaq5aUhbdH

@@peglegjim57 i’ve done that too, and it works very well
I launched one morning, while my engine was warming up, I watched a guy back a brand new (first launch) 24' center console deep-V down the ramp and had already removed the strap and chain. It was a bunk trailer, but he tapped the brakes and off it came with the back of the boat about 8' from the water when it stopped sliding. He asked me to hook ropes to it and try to drag it down the ramp. I didn't want to do it and also told him my boat wouldn't pull that boat. At that time, I had a 21' Carolina skiff with Suzuki 115. He said, he just picked the boat up the day before and it was his first time launching a boat, he was alone. It was at a lake so no tide to come in. He asked me what I would do, I would call a tow service with a truck that has a boom lift to see if they could help. He didn't even try to call. He ran the strap out, hooked it to the boat, got in his truck and started backing until the bow pushed up on the trailer, then he pushed that boat down the ramp until he got the trailer in the water, then winched it up on the trailer. It was a sickening sight to see that hull after being pushed down that concrete ramp with groove cuts.

I owned an 18 ft Wellcraft for thirty years. I NEVER released the winch or the safety chain till the back of the boat was in the water. My suggestion here, hold the boat with the wrecker and push the trailer back under the boat.

Haha where exactly is that.
Several years ago, a bunch of boaters showed up at a 3 bay ramp. One guy backing down, stopped on the ramp to make sure his plug was in and his boat slid off the trailer. He was wearing some kind of Nylon - plastic bunks and that stuff was so slippery, it just slid off. So a bunch of us got behind and beside the boat (Bass Boat) and just heaved it back on. He strapped it back down and went home. Great video, BTW!

Nice thanks
Get a couple of big fenders. Deflate. Inflate close to the problem…ride em up.
This happened to a friend of mine and I was there with my boat and what we did was back the truck up slowly while cranking on the strap pulling the boat without causing any more damage cuz back in the trailer would lift the boat as he's backing in your cranking it worked great without damaging the boat anymore
What is damaged is where the tow guys drug it on the ramp! Jack up the transom and put some lumber under it for crying out loud!

Have seen that before. Never rely on the winch strap/ratchet to hold the boat on the trailer. The last thing you do before you reverse the boat off the trailer is detach the safety chain.

Go buy a half million dollar piece of equipment, probably $10k a year in insurance, employ someone to operate it. every hour that thing runs is likely 8 to 10 gallons of fuel at $3.50ish a gallon... maintenance... miscellaneous permits & other legalities... Keep in mind, this is a business, how cheaply do you think he should be?
@NWI_Steel

@@jameslovitt994 believe me, I get the overhead costs with running a business and maintaining a fleet. But that was the "we have you by the balls" price. A fair price for that recovery would have been 500-800ish IMO

@NWI_Steel granted, a smaller truck would've handled the task just fine, they overshot it a bit with what appears to be a 50 ton, once the big guns show up, it gets expensive in a hurry.
Big Dan, would of been a good opportunity to slang those gel coat kits i talked about before. Although he may need the mesh/ resin kit to build the void back up.

For or 5 layers and he’ll be back under way.
I’ve had this happen a couple of times he put the truck in neutral and start hand cranking it, and it will force the trailer back under the boat without the boat moving till the boat gets to a certain point that it just teed right onto the trailer and you back it back down in the water and you went your back up Actually a boat fell in the middle of the highway. We back the trailer back up under the boat hooked up the winch put the truck in neutral and we’re cranking it. It was just pulling the truck and trailer right underneath the boat. The boat never slid down the highway or nothing.

There ya go! That sounds good
I would have used two of the 10K Lb ratchet straps I have and go from post to post under the boat to lift it and then use the hand winch to pull it up. You'd just have to hope the posts were buried strong deep enough to hold.

Before they start pulling, just the idea of what's going to happen to the boat's keel is cringe worthy. It's a shame the tow truck doesn't have a jack or two and a set of dollies to support the end? Those snapper weren't cheep. ;-D

If that were my boat as the tow truck applied pressure I would of just backed trailer back under the boat as there was plenty of ramp that way the boat wouldn't of skidded along the water grooves and tore it up oh well probably still had to visit the glass man😂

I would have put rolling floor jacks under it before pulling it up with the tow truck, or even a couple of logs would have helped not to drag in on the concrete.

I would have tried to jack up the stern of the boat somehow. Maybe a boom lift with long enough arm to sling the rear of the boat from the side cleats or transom eyelets?
Instead of watching the action at Haulover Inlet, I'm watching the action at Haulonto trailer. My thoughts? One of those wheel dollies they put under car wheels to roll cars around the shop. Jack the hull up and place one right under the drain plug. Or one of those flat furniture dollies would be even better.

I is not yo savvy with boats. But i have to ask that if your gonna pay for a recovery truck with a stick, why not strap the boat and lift it? I also need to ask why didnt they put something under the back of boat to keep concrete from diggin into it? At this point he should just rammed it back into the water and reloaded it.

Right good questions
On July 3rd I was backing the boat into the lake and heard my fiance yell WTH and felt the boat pull. I got out and the safety chain was holding it on and the release switch on the winch had snapped which I noticed when we were putting it on when getting off the lake. Then when the boat was ⅔ of the way on the trailer the boat and trailer almost went in the water because I trusted my dad that he lowered and locked the trailer on the hitch. Luckily those safety chains were attached. I wound the boat on the trailer while she dug for a bungie strap in the truck and got the winch part taken care of, then put the wheel down on the trailer and slowly pulled it up out of the water and put it on the hitch correctly. To top it off I was coming in perfectly right on the side of the dock slowly so my fiance was overconfident and put her foot up. As I saw and yelled don't put your foot on the dock it was separating and her legs were spreading. She pushed the boat toward the dock with her leg and fell backwards into the boat. It would have been the perfect outing for your show. REMEMBER SAFETY CHAINS, THEY WORK!
