Kim Youn-Kung played in Turkey for a long time and she is ADORED here in Turkey because of the way she expresses herself. There’s a video where during a game the referee gives the point to Kim’s team’s opponent and she runs to the referee and objects the decision speaking freaking Turkish!!! She’s a super talented player, she speaks her mind, she is confident and gets along very well with teammates. One of Kim’s Turkish teammates actually invited her to her wedding last year and the entire Turkish volleyball community swooned over her. Long story short, bullies are the absolute worst and we love Kim!

This isn’t bullying, it’s assault. They should be treated as assaulters, and put in prison for such actions. Bullying is terrible but a lot of Korean bullying is just assault and harassment, and they need to start passing laws to classify it as such and have the perpetrators go to prison for such crimes. And lower the age of judicial justice, especially after the case where 13 year olds murdered someone after doing a hit and run with a stolen car

Korean here 🙋‍♀️ - when the women’s volleyball team advanced to the semi-finals at the most recent summer Olympics, it was all the more victorious because people were worried how well we would do without the twins (they just didn’t say it out loud). If anything, the teams dynamic and teamwork was STRONGER due to the absence of the twins (plus we got Kim Young Kyung who is one of the TOP players in the world - she is notably one of, if not, the best all-rounded players which is really difficult because most athletes don’t train to be all-rounded; they train for their specific position making them “weaker” in other positions that are not their own). I think I can confidently speak for Korea when I say the twins will never be welcomed back. We managed to advance to the semi-finals at the Olympics, we certainly don’t need them anymore.

the behaviors and actions of the twins are definitely a result of their parents, specifically their mother’s, normalization of bullying and abuse. the way that the mother told them not to look down at the airport, essentially telling them not to feel remorse for their actions, is telling of how she probably would tell them not to feel bad for bullying their former teammates which is probably why they’re so audacious and unapologetic of their actions. they weren’t taught that they should feel bad for bullying others so of course they won’t understand why they have to apologize. i feel so bad for the victims, no one around them were able and willing to help, even those who could have changed their ways were manipulated to not do so.

RIGHT ! Like how is this situation so *M E S S Y* beyond reason. Why didn't the players think of ganging up on the twins, they're not Gog & Magog ffs... I'm sure they would've out-powered them !? They were already in a dire situation anyway, mentally & physically scarred, they could've caused some ripple & if they get suspended/kicked out, then so be it. Are the twins' connections really gonna back them up on such a rotten record ?! I think tf not, if it gets out to the public & causes that much rage then they'll definitely drop them, which they did. It's just too big of a mess to try & clean up. It's a shame it didn't get out sooner, and that the victims had their pain prolonged like this.

Before retiring. Kim was ranked best in the world. Number 1 out of thousands of pro players. She played with Korea teams in her early career, but sought out bigger opportunities in other leagues. (To be the best you need to play the best) However, she did play with the twins on the National team in prior Olympics, so the twins were familar with her leadership and genius abilities but knew she would never steal their spotlight because Kim was in another league, while the twins stayed in Korea's leagues. As Kim got older she came back to Korea to be a mentor and/or end her career where it started. That's when the twins got upset she was taking their spotlight. The twins are good, but they're not at Kim's level.

I am not sporty but I am not HORRIBLE in any sport if you get what I mean. I am even decent in sports like badminton and kho-kho (Indian sport involving running). The only category of sports I am bad in is the ones including lifting, wrestling or tackling because I am thin, so naturally I didn't even try those as much. When I tried vollyeball once for shits and giggles, let me tell you, the ball barely bounced 10 cm away from my arm but my 2 arms felt like they were almost snapped off from the impact. It still remains the only non-wrestling/non-weightlifing based sport that I am laughably bad at.

It's like sport number 2 (after football, of course) for people to watch, and most Brazilian volleyball fans know Kim Yeon-koung who is a greaaaat player. Volleyball it's super fun to watch guys, give it a chance!! Also, love you Steph, be healthy!

My cousin's ex-husband was a domestic violence victim. I literally saw him with bruises and injuries the morning after they visited my aunt's house and my cousin got upset with something childish like with Dayeong's reason. He never got into another relationship again. My cousin got a lesbian partner. Yes, my cousin was the perpetrator. Yes, men can also be victims of domestic violence.

As a follower of Volley and a fan of Stephanie I am so excited she covered this! To clarify some context, Korea was pretty much a mediocre team but Kim Yeon-Koung (often called KYK) can carry the team. It's technically a one man team! Until the sisters came and provided "support" to KYK (in terms of skills) which brought korea to their peak in terms of level of play which we know was short lived as the story goes for the twins. KYK is also a famous youtuber (bread unnie)

Kim Yeon Koung was widely considered the best player in the entire world around the 2012 Olympics. Korea came in 4th and nearly medaled with a pretty weak team, just because Kim went total beast mode and carried the team through to the medal round. There were many people who thought that once Kim actually had some strong teammates like the Twins that Korea would be a very competitive team, but as Steph explains in the story, it didn't really work out that way.

@47:25, the twins getting mad at people for meeting their parents is probably an isolation tactic, I’m sure that their relationships with the parents also has something to do with it BUT notice how the girl who was framed for stealing the wallet became a social outcast at the school. They probably wanted these girls to feel alone and small, and for many, one’s parents is a huge form of encouragement and comfort, they’re basically trying to stop these girls from having anyone to turn to.
