From Source to the Sea - A CT River Journey

A 1959 trip on the Connecticut River from the Canadian border to Long Island Sound increased public awareness of its sad state at the time. Dr. Joseph Davidson and his wife donned gas masks at various locations, met Governors and local officials along the way, and compared a bottle of water from the source to water along the way. The Connecticut River Watershed Council (now the Connecticut River Conservancy) made this 25 minute film of the journey to spread the story.

I remember back then the Connecticut river was known as “the world’s most beautifully landscaped sewer”. There’s no comparison today. It truly is a natural treasure.

I remember the attention their trip got in the Hartford media at the time. I used to fish for shad in the spring run and water ski on the river during the summer in the mid-50s to early-60's. Swallowing river water while waterskiing often resulted in diarrhea the next day. Apparently, as a result of the attention this trip provided, serious improvement to the river environment was undertaken and by the late-60's water quality significantly improved and fishing got a whole lot better. I wonder what the conditions are in 2020?

Recently the water quality had been good, at least no problems if you accidentally drink the water. I too go fishing in the spring and summer along with boating.

This is a nice trip in the way but did they ever get married? Have kids ? Gr8 footage, some recognizable. An awesome historical lesson of what it was like to exist 60 or so years ago
