"From Sim to Field!!", RC Helicopter Simulator Basics by Nick Wisdom
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
HD Team Pilot, Nick Wisdom, is back with another episode in the HeliDirect Beginner series. Nick walks you through the process of setting up a radio control helicopter simulator and discusses how to configure your transmitter to work with one. Then start practicing your 4 basic orientations to transition from the simulator to the real thing, or from "Sim to Field" as we like to call it! If you've had questions about how simulators operate, and why you should start with one, this video is for you!

Are there more videos in this series? I assume there are because the description states "another episode in the HeliDirect Beginner series" but I can't find them. This would make a good playlist. Oh, and thank-you for making this.
great video. a sim is really really important if u want to spend less money in the time you are learning how to fly a heli. I myself spent a lot of time in the sim before getting a real model because i was saving up for a proper first heli. looking at 9 months minimum. and honestly it paid off. my first heli was the goosky s2, and in less than a month i progressed to the raw 580 and saving up for my first 700. but on my first flights I was able to fly inverted, do tic tocs, do funnels and hurricanes. and honestly I'm very thankful to the guy that told me to start off with a sim just to have more fun while flying rather than repairing most of the time
I appreciate the video. It contains a lot of good information but the thing I'll share that few of these videos do, is that a beginner will watch these videos and think it's something they can learn in a few days. Most likely it's going to take a few days to learn each orientation or maybe even a week or more if you don't get consistent practice in. Don't worry. These videos completely gloss over how much practice it takes to learn these initial skills! The biggest thing is to get consistent practice in and you'll definitely start improving. You will crash A LOT in the beginning but you will start learning how to hover in each orientation. Be patient and stick with it and you'll get better. Another thing to note is that having good hovering skills will help you later on. It absolutely ties so many things together later on. Once you can do tail in hover, Heli-X has an excellent pirouette trainer that's better than RealFlight or AccuRC. It forces you to learn your orientations. You can set it to clockwise or CCW and adjust the rate. Much later on you can also use it to learn inverted pirouettes as well. Learning RC heli is much more like learning piano or guitar. It's not quick but it's been incredibly incredibly rewarding.

Thanks for the note…. The truth is that everyone learns at a different pace and for reason we don’t focus on how long it takes, but instead emphasize the need to learn your 4 basic orientations in the sim before moving to the real thing. We also cover how to turn any sim into a piro trainer of sorts using rudder trim which worked great for me.

@@NickWisdomRC Nick, I'd watch similar videos, often 10-15 minutes long thinking it would take a week or so since nobody ever said anything. Much much later on, I learned my progression was pretty normal, which was way more time than a short video might imply. Personally, I think something should be said, as I don't think most new people realize the time commitment, even if you've came from planes. The rudder trim method works too. I wanted consistency (and didn't quite trust myself at the time) so I preferred what Heli-X had built in.
One of the best vid's i've seen ever, on how to use the sim, and the basic skills. Great content. 🙂

Thanks man!
Great info! Definitely will give this a go in the neXt sim today after work.
Great video nick
Good advice however, my advice to any beginners watching is what you’ve summarized in a brief video will likely take a hell of a lot longer to actually learn properly. Also, a Sim is very helpful, but it is in no way a replication as far as I’m concerned. I think my XK110 more than anything else for helping teach me the basics. If you can fly that twitchy little thing, you can handle a bigger, bird much easier. I’m at the point now where I’m gonna use my Sim to get my inverted hovering down. Funny thing, though, is when I first started I was more comfortable with nose in and that would be how I would re-orient myself. Then I focused on tail in I have since become more comfortable with that.
Nicely done Nick! 👌

Thank you
Very good video and Direction. I flew planks and later Helis from 2010-2016. Former HD Regular Customer. 😊 Been watching lots of Goosky flight Vids. Want an S2 or S1. Have an old RF Ver with controller. Just Ordered a Next USB Drive version. Have a 22” screen at my newer Laptop so should work out great at my Ham Radio Station desk! Have a physical disability now since a 2016 Stroke. This will be a challenge, but I have flown planes since. Helis more of a handful for sure. SIM will be good Mental/Physical Training again. Looking forward to better Sitting time use. 😊
very similar to acro on a quadcopter👍
great vid here’s my list heli x next accu Rc real flight evolution - shouldn’t be mentioned because it’s so bad
I have Accurc on Steam but don't have the RAW 700 in my model list! Is there a way to update it to get this model?

What best helicopter suits 37 nitro engines
So I have the demo of Accu RC and I have real flight 7.5. I am trying to get better with helicopters. I find that I’m having a tougher time on a simulator then I am with a real helicopter. But at the same time I’m trying to get better with my orientations on the Sim so I theoretically crash less with the real helicopter. But on the Sims I find that I’m over correcting more the Helly is swaying a lot more I can’t hold it very steady etc. tried stuff down Expo etc. I’m trying to figure out if I’m missing something? I know small corrections but it seems it virtually takes nothing to get the helicopter out of whack becoming a pendulum, swinging etc. I feel more planted with a real helicopter but I want to get better on the Sim so I can do more with the real helicopter. Sorry to ramble on but any tips tricksand help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you expo in the simulator settings? Reduce stick sensitivity perhaps?
Hi video uploader, I got a RadioMasterTX16 radio and how I am gonna use that in this sim? I fly helicopter only. Thanks.

I believe that radio has a usb output you can connect to the computer with. Check your radio’s manual.
How to connect with futaba 18 sz the accu rc ? And other simulators also ...

Is there a USB port on the back at all? I'm not familiar with that transmitter.
Seem this simulator has also been abandoned… what happened to all the updates?
