I grew up in VA and was visiting a relative in Bridgeport CT when I was 15 years old when I heard this song on Kiss 98.7 in 1986. I never heard a rap song on THAT level before it blew my mind way. BDP/KRS 1 is one of the best that ever did it.

Analyze Eric B and Rakim’s “Follow The Leader” there’s a lot of meat on that bone.

We have Eric B and Rakim lined up for a New Years eve release as it turns out. It was a tough call between "Follow the Leader:" and "Eric B. is President" We went with the latter but may have to do "Follow the Leader" as well. Both so good.

"The Bridge" was not even made by Marley Marl to be a single played on the radio, He made it to play at this annual party called Queensbridge day that everyone in the projects attended to celebrate. Mc Shan was just saying how Hip Hop started in Queensbridge back in the days and not that Hip Hop had started in Queens and KRS One knew that. He just used that to start that beef because he did not like Mr. Magic after being told by Mr. Magic that his song was trash when KRS One came to the radio station to play him his demo.

2:30 KRS with Sly & Robbie, Reggae drummer and bassist. If you can think of popular Reggae "riddims" from the 1970s - 2020s, thank them for it.

Thanks for pointing that out! Yep, Shan's "The Bridge" was misinterpreted by BDP among others, leading to all that drama. They did clear it up later, though. Appreciate your sharp eye on this and glad you liked the video! Your insights really add to the conversation about hip-hop's history. Cheers for tuning in!

You've got a point there. As mentioned in our video, the rivalry was multi-layered, with BDP's response to MC Shan also influenced by their earlier industry setbacks and DJ Marley Marl's dismissal. These incidents indeed set the stage for the Bridge War that followed. Thanks for emphasizing this key part of the story!
