From Rhinos to Elephants | A Journey of Compassion with Adine Roode

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Before Adine Roode started HERD (Hoedspruit Elephant Rehabilitation and Development), she worked with elephant and rhino orphans using the facilities at her mother's centre, known as HESC (Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre). Since its establishment in 1990, HESC has played an important role in the conservation of specific endangered species, particularly cheetahs and rhinos. Adine saw the influx of elephant orphans at the centre, and decided to take the step to create South Africa's first and only dedicated elephant orphanage.
HERD officially launched in 2019, but this followed a long journey in elephant rehabilitation, one that began with the original orphan, Jabulani, and proceeded with the rescue of the herd from Zimbabwe. Adine wanted to give new orphans a chance to rehabilitate close to their own species and to better facilitate the integration process of orphans into the Jabulani herd. The HERD orphanage was built right next to the homestead of the Jabulani herd, a unique blended herd named after elephant bull Jabulani, incorporating the original herd from Zimbabwe and their offspring born in South Africa.
We have shared stories of Adine's past work with rhinos recently as she has stepped in again to help with the rehabilitation of new rhino orphans at HESC, with her expertise in caring for these calves and her knowledge of the milk formula needed.
In this video, we take a look at how Adine's journey with rhinos led to the creation of HERD, and a lifetime of dedication to wildlife in need. Adine has walked a long road with the elephants in our care, from Jabulani who is the same age as Adine's own son, to Khanyisa, the albino snare survivor who we raised through the COVID pandemic. While she manages the care of our newest orphan at HERD, precious four-month-old Phabeni, Adine remains committed to being of service to the rhino orphans and poaching victims who need her too.

I think presently more and more centers take care and rescue babies or wounded animals in many Africa states ! there are more and-more rangers tracking poachers but it will be never enough but I cross my fingers for these treasures in the nature !! An other big problem concerning the elephant is the Asian countries who torture these elephants all their life unchained ! with not enough foods not enough water ! working so hard ang getting seriously injured and NO ONE TELL ABOUT THESE CRIMINAL ANIMAL VIOLENCES ! there are laws and these tortures mental and physic continue 😡 their life is prison on concrete and iron cage !!! they never meet herd !! I am devastated 😢 and so angry 🤬

I am wondering why is it that the rhinos are released back into the wild without carers watching over them in the bush but the elephants are not released back into the wild without carers? I watched a video recently where Adine approached a rhino orphan that she helped raise and it was so wonderful to see that he had not forgotten her and it was really touching to see. I love the work and dedication you all provide for these precious animals. You all have the most incredibly beautiful souls to dedicate yourselves in this way.

This truly made me emotional “I just want to make the world a better place” not only are you fulfilling this wish every single day with every 4 legged creature who’s come across your pure heart and kind touch but you have touched and inspired countless people across the globe including myself;no truer words have been said “without animals to share our lives they’d be quite empty”This holds true not just with the work you do fighting for the orphaned, the lost and the voiceless but your smile your humor and the joy you have is contagious and it certainly gives hope making my days a little more wonderful.Thank you for all you do for wildlife for being their guardian angel and for reminding us that we can all make a difference in our own way. 🐘🦏💞💜🥺

You’re an inspiration to us all. What you do along with everyone else at HERD embodies the best of humankind. It is my firm belief that we as a species are here to be stewards and not owners of this planet, we are here to care for our beloved and unique Mother Earth, the only known harbor of life in the stars. We are an immature species as can be seen by the greed with which our dominant way of life consumes everything in its path, how we’re vying to colonize other planets while we ravage and strip the one that quite literally gives us life, and by how we slaughter these beautiful beings for ridiculous, baseless, and abhorrent superstitions. Luckily every generation of humans that comes is more awake to their true role. Until there’s a critical mass of young people who will organically take up the mantle of protecting the planet and the rest of creation, the beautiful animals we share the world with must be preserved. They have as much a right to be here, and in fact often even greater a right because it’s the humans who have encroached into their homes. Thank you for all that you do to make sure these wonderful creatures will be around for future humans to marvel at.

This video has such a profound message. Adine and all the other people involved with HERD and HESC have made the world a better place. Their work is such an inspiration.

Adine you have made a difference in the world. Without HES and HERD these orphaned babies would never have a chance to grow up and continue the species. You are truly an amazing woman. I thank you for allowing us to go on this journey with you. ❤️🐘🦏❤️

Oh the beautiful creatures. We have so much to learn from them. Thank you for your compassionate work. I suggest everyone watching this put a post on their community page of their channels so we can spread the word for HERD and up the support for them. With deep gratitude 🙏

Adine is one in a million. People like her are an inspiration to us all, giving us a reason to keep believing in humanity even as it gets harder and harder to hold on to that belief. The *monsters* that cut off these rhinos' horns for superstitious bullsh*t and leave them to die in agony, I can't even find the words to express the fate they deserve.
