How does an inner city African American kid with a self-proclaimed violent temper, become a world renowned brain surgeon, an inspiring role model for disadvantaged youth, a medical innovator and achieve success... against all odds? In 2001, CNN and Time Magazine named Ben Carson one of the nation's 20 foremost physicians and scientists. His mother was his most influential inspiration, changing Ben from worst to first. He gained respect as he soared to the top of his class. He applied himself, stayed focused on achievement, studied hard and graduated from Yale with a degree in psychology; where he met his future wife, mother of his children and life partner, Candy.
Carson earned his M.D. at the University of Michigan Medical School and later at the age of 33, was appointed the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, the youngest person ever to hold that position. He was the first brain surgeon to successfully separate twins conjoined at the back of the head. Ben Carson has been granted 67 honorary doctorate degrees and the United States' highest civilian award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. His beliefs are integral to his achievements. Ben Carson's story is an amazing inspiration. It will continue, not only because of what he has achieved, but because his final chapters are yet to be written.

How dare people speak ill of Ben Carson? Imagine telling young Black people not to look up to a self-made, accomplished Neurosurgeon and instead look up to Rappers & Race Hustlers? He is a true inspiration whether people like his politics or not to grow up in a single-parent home living in impoverished community and to grow up to become a heart surgeon that's not easy what he did a lot of people that were born in his predicament and up dead before 21 or in jail so people deserve to give them props

Wow.. incredible story, incredible man. God blessed him with incredible leadership abilities, and pure, unadulterated wisdom and drive. Why, oh why, this man did not succeed at his presidential run is beyond me. But then, I didn't invest enough time reading into all the presidential candidates, bios. I wish I had. I bet I do the next time. That would have definitely changed my vote. Don't go on media hype to select a leader. Really learn about them before you choose them.

I believe that the only reason he did not win that race was that mr o had FAR more charisma and also a dem. The dems are pulling out ALL tools legal and illegal to get their party in at all costs. :( Dr Carson is now on the Supreme Court where he can do a LOT of good.
I admire this man. I was raised very poor as well, I sure wish I had a mother like he did. Education is extremely important! I didn't get that chance because of my mother. Mr. Carson is one man that deserves to be respected.

At least i can speak the French Language out there. Just because Dr Benjamin Carson became a Neurosurgeon does not mean that everyone should do the same. If you are a journalist be a good one. If you are a Nurse be a good one. If you are a sportsman be an excellent one. If you are a Baker be an excellent one If you are a soldier be a good defender. If you are a radio man be a a good one. A few might also become Neurosurgeons, so be it but then other professions are also important for human progress.

I dunno, I can't stand to watch the video so I can't critique the captions - but in this case specifically, are you SURE it's the auto captioning and not the idiocy of the subject? Generally, you have a fair point and I'd totally support your desire for decent captioning, but I only came here to comment that I'm getting completely fed up with Timeline's biases.

Marcus Sparticus because he can barely speak about non medical issues without sounding like a child. Also Carson pushed policies that walk back civil rights protections for those living in subsidized housing.

Im watching this after debating with a conservative brother and he brought up Ben Carson. My natural outside looking in reply was "he doesnt count. He is us once we get somewhere and they forget where they came from" well i can honestly say he didnt. He comes from where i came from even from the same temperament willing to Alpha over someone else life... and theres more to learn after that which is how i see his progression with me being so much younger. My only question is, what have you been pushing for minorities? What have you risked to pursue legislation?

@@thisismyname3928 The need was to destroy the department he headed, HUD. That's the reason Trump chose most of his cabinet. Carson was a great neurosurgeon and should have continued to be one. He saved lives with his medical knowledge. Now he's a professional opportunist in the cabinet of the opportunist-in-chief. It's unfortunate.

If it's poor, working or even lower middle (below 100K) you are subsidizing Trump and his ilk's bankruptcies, offshore accounts, money laundering and other shady deals.
