Ameterasu from Okami is NOT based on a kitsune! The kitsune does appear in the game, but Ameterasu is the name of the sun goddess and the form she has taken is a wolf, not a fox. Japanese wolves are extinct. Wolves were thought to have mystical powers and some were even worshipped as either deities or messengers of deities. The reason Ammy is fiery is solely because she's supposed to be the sun goddess.

I will go to bat for Floppie; it was shown in a trailer before Tinkaton's design was publicly known or even leaked. It could not possibly have been based on Tinkaton and the fact they look anything alike is simply a huge coincidence. It deserves to move up one tier at least, possibly even two because without the "Tinkaton fusion" elements it's not really that much like Sylveon either.

I agree furret is such an unoriginal design of a ferret. all it does is change the fur pattern and flaten the face. At least chillet has a much more dynamic design and combination of creatures with the clear influence from axolotls and with far more exaggerated ears and a far more exaggerated facial structure and more sculpted body with a clearly thinner neck that expands into the body. Chillet is far more creative and original than furret.

No, literally, try drawing anything, and there's some asshat with nothing better to do run it against 1000+ pokemon and xyz million fakemon to prove you stole something because the shape of the curve you used somewhere is similar to how someone else did a curve. At what point do people stop caring about baseless accusations? If everything is plagiarized, nothing is. You have several times bigger chance of winning a lottery than coming up with a completely original thing nobody ever thought of before. There are countless billions of pictures on the internet. And just how ppl stopped caring about being called nazis on the internet by the lefty activists for... literally everything under the sun, most people also stopped caring if something looks vaguely similar to something else. I just hope people don't start parroting this without context just so they can rebutt on an argument online regardless if it's applicable or not. It's still okay to call out immoral acts as long as we're doing so with honesty (his words as well). It'd be harmful if people just stopped speaking up in moments where it's much needed. Lots of people go into online debates only to one-up the other guy, so they would use every quote and post they've seen as ammunition rather than having an honest discussion, much like how both sides of the palworld v pokemon debate goes, and much like the potential misuse of this particular quote from Lockstin as well.

This kind of stuff just makes me wonder if it's less Palworld stealing from Pokemon, and more just Pokemon having a ton of super generic designs and over a thousand Pokemon (and especially counting megas, g-max, and Hisuan/Alolan versions) so you could have someone who has never heard of Pokemon or seen one in their life draw an anime creature with some sort of elemental gimmick and it would look just as much like a Pokemon.

In defense of Chillet, both it and Furret are basically just big ferrets so I wouldn't say that Chillet is just a pokemon when the pokemon is just an animal.

The idea that Woolipop is “literally Alcremie” is so stupid.

For those who don't know. Sheep as well known to roll on Thier backs. When the wool gets too dense it can cause Thier balance to be thrown off and they will fall down and roll on their backs making it difficult to get back up. It is very dangerous for them to be near hills and cliffs because they can end up rolling down them. The idea of a sheep ball that rolls around comes from the cartoonist interpretation of this.

My favorite thing about Anubis is trying to point out something actually matches Lucario aside from the silhouette The legs have a different number of joints and different pants. its hand have human fingers and arm guards. Its chest has that clothing piece. the face patter is fairly different. The tail is different. And the color scheme is different. Look at all the check features Lucario has that it doesn't. No shoulder wheels, extra spikes, fluffy shorts?, and no dread things. Rayhound is far worse imo and never gets talked about. People just hate Anubis because its on the cover and everyone really likes Lucario.

To be honest, I think Anubis is a better design than Lucario. For one thing, its mouth is actually ON its snout instead of BELOW it.

Admittedly I'm extremely confused by your thought process behind most of these picks, with Eikthyrdeer it's "this is S tier because it's just a cartoon animal pokemon already did and they dont own said animal" but then with Jolthog/Chillet it's "this is F tier cuz it's just a cartoon animal pokemon already did and knowing the devs they were just ripping it off". Same with a bunch of other designs where it's "pokemon doesn't own fire horses" and "this is an ice moth so it's frosmoth" like come on lol.

there are tons of ways to stylize a ferret, there are tons of ways palworld could have stylized chillet to make it not look like furret, but they didnt. they could have changed the shape of the front paws, gave it actual limbs, made a more clear distinction between the tail and the body, changed the shape of the feet, added claws, made the body thinner, changed the position of the front paws, literally ANY of these, but nope, they stylized it the exact same way pokemon did. heck, *i've* designed ferret creatures before, and even with my pokemon-esque art style they still turned out completely different looking than furret

I gonna bat for Jolthog here. Its not that its just copying Shaymin, its that they are both uninspired designs. They are both just an actual hedgehog, but the spikes are an element. Heck, pokemon made a better hedgehog inspired pokemon with Togademaru, the hedgehog is clear, but different enough. Shaymin is lazy in that its just hedgehog but literally hedge, the hedgehog shape doesn't even change, its head, its back, its legs, its all just real life hedgehog. If Jolthog had a another Pal thats supposed to be its counterpart, and that counterpart looks more like a deer, like how Shaymin sky form is, then fine I will accept thats its a copy. But it doesn't, its just an electric hedgehog. So in my opinion, its shouldn't be F tier. I do think that "Since its palworld" criticism is coming a bit too much in some of these.

I love the distinction that they're both unoriginal. Call it what it is. PalWorld is just Pokemon with guns. Down to the philosophy of stealing ideas. Pot taking notes from Kettle. That's what this is, and people need to stop pretending Pokemon is this innocent IP that hasn't done the exact same thing for a long time. You can love the games and series, and find originality in both, but there are clearly a lot of uninspired ideas here and there. If we don't have the courage to call them out, can we really take ourselves seriously as gamers? 6:59 Never forget this. Also, I love the design of Jolthog, and it may have one of my favorite abilities. I can forgive it's lack of originality for the ability to throw an exploding hedgehog at dudes.

I definitely think Chillet is one of the more original ones. It's based on ferrets, of course, but it has completely different design and animation than furret. There vibes are also very distinctive, making them cute in different ways.

Let's not look at one part of the design (proceeds to look at one part of the design specifically the talons)

Right? The only similarity is that they are both long. Which is the defining thing about ferrets that tells you it is a ferret. There is no way to make a ferret monster short. It wouldn't be a ferret anymore.

​@@lawless7512comparing furret to other cartoon ferrets, the hands, legs ( generally ferret designs have bigger legs), standing pose and especially the big tail is quite unique to furret. I think chillet looks like an edited furret 3d model with different head design. They have the same iconic furret walking animation.

There are definitely some similarities that you can rule it was “inspired” by Pokémon but I feel like some of them are just concepts or creatures from myth that Pokémon obviously took from somewhere else too like people say lucario and Anubis. Bro it’s literally taken from Egypt mythology Anubis it isn’t just a Pokémon thing also chillet is a ice dragon ferret they look similar because it is based on the same thing Pokémon doesn’t have claim over all ferret lookalike creatures

So, what I'm getting from all this is: Nostalgia is a cancer.

It's not necessarily nostalgia. What we're seeing is people defending a brand because if nostalgia without realizing this isn't hurting their memories. Game freak is. Pokemon hasn't evolved ever. They refuse to because of this weird brand loyalty people have. If it was any other product people would have dropped it decades ago. We grew up pokemon didn't. Even the pokemon legends formula seems to be dead in the water despite johto being the perfect place to take it next.

@ralcogaming7674 yea, they've never really cared to shake things up for the games. I don't know if this makes sense, but it kinda feels to me as if Gamefreak is trying to give a "move with us or we move through you" attitude to its audience without realizing that it goes both ways. I might have no desire to play Palworld, but it has nothing to do with brand loyalty.

When Palworld first came out, I was one of THOSE Pokemon fans, who saw the game as nothing more than a game that was likely made from spite towards the current Pokemon product, with the guns and slave labor basically being the developers saying "Look at what WE can do that you're NOT doing!" But after watching this video, especially the second half, I feel my opinion on Palworld has changed quite a lot. I've been a fan of Pokemon since Gen 2, but ever since Gen 6 or so, I've grown increasingly frustrated with the franchise for a multitude of factors. Asides from rushing each game, the franchise honestly feels stagnant, like it's permanently stuck in 1999, and still runs itself like a franchise from the 90's, with an apparent prioritization of selling merchandise over actually making quality products. It honestly feels like they are afraid to innovate, afraid to leave their comfort zone, like they're still worried about the early controversies like Jynx, Porygon and the Christian moms who thought the franchise was "Satanic", and decide to play things SUPER safe to avoid any potential controversy or lawsuits. If anything, that's why I think Palworld is so successful, partly because of the whole "Pokemon with Guns" novelty and meme, but also because it's doing things that Pokemon should have done a long time ago. Think about it, Gen 6 came out in 2013 and was the first all-3D (main series) Pokemon title, when it's contemporaries like Mario, Zelda and Sonic made the jump to 3D over 15 years earlier, back when _Gen 1_ was the current generation, when the franchise was in it's infancy. And that's just barely scraping the iceberg! We're currently in the 9th generation of Pokemon, and the 3D graphics look like they're from the Wii era. Pokemon Colosseum was released 20 years ago and it somehow looks better than Scarlet and Violet do... and that game wasn't even made by Game Freak! This is one of, if not THE biggest multi-media franchise in the world right now, it should be a leader and an innovator with that status, and yet the franchise still functions like it's an 80's toy-driven franchise from Hasbro, when even franchises from that decade like Transformers and TMNT have gotten with the times. Face it, Pokemon NEEDS to improve, and yet for some reason, it's not, and at the rate things are going, I don't think it ever will...

Love how everyone ONCE AGAIN are pinning the blame SOLELY on Game Freak, when I'm pretty sure it's THE POKEMON COMPANY who is FORCING them to pump these games out EVERY SINGLE YEAR, from a team they REFUSE to give MORE WORKERS for, and people think that massive time crunch is gonna magically make Pokemon games good? The problem is Game Freak CAN'T make Pokemon good because they DON'T HAVE THE TIME to do so. TPC needs to stop constantly expecting the games to be a yearly release so that GF can actually have TIME to work on them. Either that, or they need to bring in ANOTHER STUDIO to aid them (like, say, MONOLITH SOFT??? The arguable KING when it comes to open-world exploration games (Xenoblade, anyone?)). Do I want Pokemon to be good? Yes. See Legends Arceus. While rough around the edges, I still had SOOO much fun with that game and I WANT them to make more Legends games and IMPROVE upon each one. But will TPC loosen their grip around GF's proverbial waist to allow them the time to make said improvements? NO. Cause all they care about is money. (and I presume they have to hold the 34+% percent to be the final say in every decision despite being a partial owner of Pokemon with Nintendo and GF, because if GF was truly the biggest shareowner, would they not have said "We are releasing Pokemon when we want to release it"? (especially given their other game they are STILL working on, btw) Or Nintendo? (Since Nintendo allows all their other IPs to be worked on and released WHEN THEY'RE READY to release)) I WANT GF to make Pokemon better and better. But until TPC lets go of their "We MUST release games annually because they HAVE to be connected to the merch/card game/anime/etc" mentality, then I don't know what GF can do outside of asking for more workers, more studios to help, or putting their foot down and demanding more time.

Hold on! Ōkami's Amaterasu is NOT a kitsune! She's closer to the Ōkuchi-no-Makami, the deified Japanese wolf. The kitsune of that game, the creatively-named Nine-Tails, is an entirely different character. Edit: Just want to say I DO enjoy this vid. I just wanted to point out that one little discrepancy. Thank you for pointing out that Grimtale is based on the Cheshire Cat. I've seen other videos, like 2 or 3, and they keep saying it's Galarian Meowth. Both Grimtale and the Cheshire Cat are purple cats with yellow eyes and an evil smile. It's the first thing I saw when I seen Grimtale.

So far the only ones I hard disagree with are Chillet (It's an ice ferret Dragon. Pokemon don't own ferrets. by your other metrics, this one is being done injustice.) And Flopie For literally being revealed before Tinkaton. Also, Loupmoon has Absols face. Orzerk has Garchomps head, bodyshape and stance - It's an Electric Orca Dragon instead of a Ground Shark Dragon, so it's literally the inverse, which is neat honestly. Some of these thou, they're clearly getting ranked higher or lower then they should b/c of your personal opinion, which is fine honestly.

Yeah, him going "Arsox is pretty unique, but this one random ass fangame did something similar, so it's a blatant copy." Like huh?! I wanted to stop watching right then and there, but I had to finish it. Then Chillet, my precious little boi. I don't even want to talk about Chillet.

I think Killamari might be based on 2 things: 1: Cute mascot hats. The long tendrils and the droopy ear-like things and big eyes really make me think it wants to be worn. 2: Mindflayers: Mindflayers are squid-like brain eaters, and its Pal entry seems to suggest it does this very thing. The hat-like appearance might lure in unsuspecting victims into putting it on where its razor-blade teeth take care of the rest. It could also take ideas from Metroids which are also tentacled beings that eat brains, but the first two ideas presented are definitely more direct.

Yeah mindflayers are the first thing I thought of when I saw the lamprey mouth, it's not far off when you consider they're both squids and that d&d is one of the most popular games of all time (alongside Pokemon)

I work at a pet store we sell a particular brand of toy called "fluff and tuff" they have a hedgehog toy that is a great example of how basic hedgehogs look. They toy lacks legs and you could slap a bush on it and sell it as shaymin.

Actually, Woolliepop isn't a dog. Ive also seen people compare it to Alcreamie because of the sweets in its hair, which is also incorrect. It's a sheep made of cotton candy with peppermint horns.

How does dragon ferret get so low on yours, but the wolf that high? Yeah, the wolf is just any anime wolf, but the dragon ferret is basically just an anime ferret with dragon features. I think of furret seeing it, but I don't actually SEE furret in it between generic anime ferret and dragon features. And there's still plenty of ways to make an anime wolf stand out more, I mean, I absolutely saw theirs and immediately thought "that's lycanroc at home."

Palworld reminds me a lot about my most favorite Shin Megami Tensei series ever, Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha. In there, you the "monster Trainer" are a main fighter who uses a gun (+ swords), you collect a variety of monsters to fight on your behalf in real time action style combat, and every monster has a type/family/category it falls under which allows them to do special actions out in the field. One of the funniest moments I ever had was when I sent out a tentacle monster of the Wind family using the special ability of the Wind family of monsters to Scout an area. During a Scout the Wind monster will fly off and after a few seconds come back to tell you about monsters you may encounter in the area and on occasion give you a random item it picked up, such as a health potion or a gem you can sell for money. Well, this one time, my monster, a demon that was just a floating eyeball with tentacles, came back from a Scout and I got the message "Ichimokuren came back with a pair of used underwear. ... you threw them away." 😆 Like, my dude, I don't want to judge by appearances, but do I even want to know how you got these!? 🤣

As a die hard pokemon fan that also understands GF needs to improve in their ways, thank you for making this video. You have eloquently put into video form all the arguments as to why i love palworld AND pokemon and why whatever happens in the end (lawsuit or not) this is for the BETTER of the monster taming community. It is literally a WIN-WIN for everyone. Its ok guys, you are allowed to enjoy both Pokemon and Palworld while also recognizing one needs to put in more effort like they used to in the past, and the other one SEVERELY lacks originality (at best lmao). Thank you so so much for this Lockstin!

At this point the lawsuit and all the legal stuff going in the background are just rumours and threats, I hope that this never reaches a courtroom, because in worst case scenario Gamefreak and Nintendo will win, just because they have more money to toss around, and that will mean that a lot of people will be discouraged to try and oppose them again, which will really stifle the game industry more than what it already is, and in best case scenario Pocketpair wins, and that really inspires a ton of developers and people, to start making games and such that rival Nintendo's ideas and things, and then we get a big boom of games, and possibly Pocketpair continues to develop for Pal World, where since its still in early access the sky is really the limit for its potential. I mainly hope that nothing really happens though, since the current status quo is pretty good, and the negative outcomes are just too bad for them to become a reality.

Yo-Kai Watch was released the same year as ORAS and outsold it in both Japan and the US. The very next game that they released was Sun and Moon, a pair of games that drastically changed up the main story beats of prior Pokemon games, introduced much deeper plot lines, regional forms, ultra beasts, z-moves, a very noticeable change to how GF designs new Pokemon for a region, and so much more. USUM is just that but even more. This will definitely light a fire under GF. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

I loved SV but it was hard carried by the plot. Hope ZA doesn't have the same technical problems and isn't just held together by duct tape and the fanbase's love for megas.

I know Anubis and Faleris were planed Pals from the first trailer and in fact Faleris was named Horus just before release, source: the in-game files, discord mod, translator and some way back machine pages

​@@Akefia I think it was well placed. There are a lot of very different birds, but a ferret is a very specific subgroup of animals. If you want to make a ferret-inspired monster, at least don't make it have exactly the same face, proportions and size as pre-existing ones. Like, both Pangoro and the Kung Fu grass panda Pal are panda-inspired, but you can clearly see differences. Chillet is a blue Furret. You could pass it as a regional variant and I wouldn't even blink at the idea. It is cute, but that doesn't make it original.

I love how measured this list is with mythology in consideration and benefit of the doubt applied. And then chillet sits at the bottom as if Gamefreak owns the likeness to an actual, real life ferret.

the colour of the eyes still dont excuse the literal same eyes, let alone rest of the face, as G-Meowth. and like Lockstin said, in a game with 30 other models that are eerily reminiscent of Pokemon, the odds that the face is coincidentally the same as G-Meowth with a completely different origin and basis is highly unlikely.

It also didn't rebel against Arceus, it was banished for being too violent (and only after this desired to challenge Arceus for a time).

The pal at 18:42, I don't think we can compare pals with 9g pokémon, it depend of when the pal was created before the release of Palworld as we know TInkakon only since november 2022 and Palworld is in developpment since longer

Same for the two pals at 30:40, I do think that this is a pure coincidence if they were created before the release of the trailer for Scarlet and Violet who showed Armarouge and Ceruledge. However if these two pals were created like AFTER the release of the Scarlet and Violet games, yes they are copies of Armarouge and Ceruledge but as centaurs.

Sadly, GameFreaks main cashflow isnt from the pokemon games, its from pokemon -merch-. Plusies, cards, toys....they really only keep cranking out more games to make new pokemon to continue their merch sales

Jormuntide is literally just a basic sea dragon, it’s based off of jormungandr the mythical sea snake that ate the world or something like that (I think it’s from Norse mythology)

Its design is based on one, but it's also an owl, whereas the Pal is humanoid.

This comment is a response to your closing statement: I feel like the sentiment "Palworld is what Pokémon should be" isn't the most accurate of ideas. What that sounds like to me is people wanting more out of the Monster Tamer/Creature Collector genre that isn't just more turn-based RPGs. Monster Taming/Creature Collecting has been stuck in this rut because the very roots of the genre, Megami Tensei, was itself a turn-based RPG. And no one has really deviated from those roots as hard as Palworld. Monster Rancher tried being different by being more of a simulation game. Didn't really stick around, though. (I think its still kind of relevant in Japan, but we haven't seen it internationally in a long time) Digimon World 1 was also more of a pet raising game, but Digimon also shifted towards turn-based RPGs as time went on. We can see a pattern begining to form. For Monster Tamer/Creature Collector games to be successful in the past, they needed to follow the trend. That trend being turn-based RPGs. Which caused the genre to stagnant. So Palworld is sort of a perfect storm of sorts. It entered early access at a time where the audience perception of the Pokémon games is at the lowest it has ever been. So people are actively looking for something different. ANYTHING DIFFERENT! And here comes Palworld to fill that void right when people were looking for it. I honestly feel that literally any game where you can catch and use monsters that wasn't a turn-based RPG would have the same people clambering for it. Palworld was just the first in a long time to see success internationally. But you also can't just make Pokémon into Palworld without the edge because Pokémon at it's very core is a turn-based RPG. That is a core part of its identity. And removing that core no longer makes it Pokémon. So the disappointment of Legends: Arceus being a turn-based RPG is honestly quite silly if you ask me. Because if people went into PLA with the expectation it wasn't going to be a turn-based RPG, then they never really wanted a Pokémon game in the first place.

Dinnosum was the first one a friend showed me. I didn't know what Palworld was and I asked, like "Oh, did someone make a Pokemon Infinite Fusion 3d model? They made Lilligant's flower weird, but they made Meganium's face well." We had a laugh. And then I pointed out it also has Servine's/Serperior's tail haha. Anyway, I like ARK and Pokemon, so I'm gonna go buy it now that I know it exists. (:

what really sucks about the Evee esque palmons is that, well tf how we gonna make a cute fox dog looking creature cause uhh.. evee is like the most generic cute creature ever

i totally agree. i remember back when gen 5 was coming out, i thought zorua was a rip off of eevee (with flareon's head poof and espeons cheek tufts lol). like there's no avoiding such comparisons when eevee is the most generic cutie ever

Yeah, the issue is less "oh look, similar to pokemon" in cases and more "pokemon did over 1k of sometimes very generic designs so it ends up being impossible to not compare newer games with the pokemon designs. I like pokemon but it is true. Pokemon came early and basically almost grabbed every cute design it would, then now when other stuff wants to be similar in style, it ends either pokemon ripoff, or ultra generic things out of fear of pokemon fans complaining (or Nintendo/game freak). Of course a fluffy fox might look like an Eevee, it is such a generic design, adorable, and well done but super generic. Or people complaining "chillet is a Furret" no, it is just a ferret, or a mix of ferret with dragon.

Yeah I would go so far as to say that claiming any Pal is based on a gen 9 pokemon is always a stretch at best, the Pal designs were likely all finalized well before Scarlet and Violet launched.

Even if it was a dog, I've never seen Slurpuff/Swirlix as dogs tbh. The fact that anyone would is complete news to me lol, so I'd say that one's a pretty big reach when there are many much more egregious examples.

What bothers me most about this game is that the design of the creatures don't match the human character designs or the environment. Like... AT ALL. They all seem like cartoon stickers glued to a photograph.

As someone who has been following Kingdom Hearts for my entire life, this is strangely a non-issue for me, I don't think even Palworld can live up to the visual dissonance between Donald Duck, anime boy, and realistic Jack Sparrow (oh and the enemy pirates have "guns"), but its pretty close xD

a small note here on Anubis, this also is very similar to the design of the same named mob in craftopia, though more rounded/plush

the reason for fox pyromancers (as stated) is just the fact that foxes with fire is kind of just a Japanese mythos thing. hell wixen is even colored like a Japanese shrine fox is often depicted with white and red underneath those robes. not arguing it's change be because pokemon did a fox mage that everyone thinks is a witch (which only kinda correct rather than open shut) but hey, i give points where i can.

15:10 I disagree on pokemon inventing those cloud thing. It's a Eastern portrayal of demi gods and deity who mostly appear in the sky riding clouds. Imagine sun wukong riding on cloud, a human from below can only see above torso because the flying nimbus is covering the legs. That's why one piece kaido dragon doesn't fly but actually generate cloud that he grabs and walk.

yeah I see a lot Asian Gods depicted standing or riding clouds. Heck Lakitu has been around since Mario 1 and I think Gaijin Goombah actually covered this way back when he was on gametheory.

@@jonathanflanagan1504 yes the Japanese has those demi god depicted that way. Normal oni is just giant brutes eating humans. These magical oni have "job" as gods. Creating thunder, lightning and rain. Google raijin and fujin. One piece Enel himself with his back drum circles and luffy gear fourth smoke ribbon are a reference to these gods.

Palworld is a hodgepodge of all sorts of other games mixed together, it isn't all that original, however it is still very fun to play.

However, one could argue that by throwing so many different things from so many different places it creates its own original sort of identity. Like, the main gameplay loop revolves around using Pals, ethicaly or not, to advance industry. This is a, at least to my knowledge, never before seen type of game; even Ark's Dinosaur based collection system wasn't this indepth as the Dinos in Ark were mostly just for Transport and Boss battles with only a few dinosaurs being able to collect materials. So I would argue that its ability to successfully merge elements from many diverse sources gives its own sense of originallity.

How many other turn based bullet hell mother influnced RPGs with SMT negotation can you name? Likewise, how many monster taming 3rd person shooter survival games qhere you get your brainwashed monsters to run factoriew for you with comedic tonap whiplash between adorable and morbid can you name. When you take enough things from such a large variety of seperate sources, The end result ends up being a unique concuction. No one has mixed all these spesific traits together before. That's how originaluty works, it's impossible to br entirely original, eveything has DNA of something else, so get creative with what you mix and add your own spice in the mix if you want a new experience. Plus, more of the same is perfectly fine anyway regardless.

Mobile monster collecting games like "Puzzle & Dragons" and "Crash Fever" are not out of the loop when it comes to dishing out several hundred monster designs that sprung from generic concepts but may varily differ in interpretations. Seiryu and the cardinal beasts has been quite used quite frequently throughout the years to point that there are literally a million different versions of them in fiction, and chances of a few them potentially being copycats are not impossible. Every once and a while there are a unique and original design, but it still stems from at least one known concept or idea.

If *I* were making a pyromancer just in general, I'd use a salamander. If I were making a pyromancer for a game with *norse inspiration,* since the northern lights were sometimes called fox fire, and fire is red, I'd use the northern European red fox. Or I could be fancy and use the arctic fox and work northern lights into its design. But yeah, it would definitely be some kind of fox strictly for the fox fire term.

Halfway through the video I couldn't tell if you were rating them based on how similar they were to pokemon or similar to an idea that already exists.

Yea...some of them started to go out there. I thought it was going to be how original they were compared to Pokemon, but then they started comparing them to other things. And then a lot of their lower placements were literally "It would be fine in any other game but because it's in Palworld, it's a blatant rip-off."

Yeah I got really confused towards the end. He started rating things based on concepts, some pokemon hasn't even done but he still rated them low. Pokemon does 'just an animal' all the time, bur he rated the kirin Pal low because it is 'just a kirin'... even though pokemon never did that creature before. Others were just 'this is the same animal as a pokemon. It isn't actually like any pokemon, but..." The t pot elephant and the electric dog ones confused the heck out of me. Somewhere someone has come up with the same concept. The execution is what matters. The other ones were comparing body parts. Like, yeah. Most fox will have a evee like tail because evee just has a fox tail, and looks like a fox. Whalelored is just a big whale. Furret is just a ferret. Anything based on those animals will look similar.

I thought it was pretty clear from the start. Yes, a good portion of the comparison is doing direct Pokemon comparisons, but he also brings in things from other franchises and otherwise bland or uninspired/unoriginal ideas. That's what the tiers are.

Thanks for this balanced view on the whole situation. I have been playing Pokémon for years and I enjoy playing Palworld. To me it feels like 2 different games. Or Pokémon with the combination of a survival game. Saying that Palworld is like “ Pokémon with guns” doesn’t feel accurate to me. I do see the similarities (sometimes very strong) between some pokemons and some pals. And yes, the developers of Palworld were definitely inspired by Pokémon when creating their games. However, where does inspiration ends and copy begins ? That’s a debatable question.

The I'm not gonna be biased but I will knock things down several tiers because they're in this game. Weird dichotomy 🤔
