From Merimbula to Flinders island. Flight over Bass Strait in a single engine aircraft.
We started the flight in Merimbula on Australian Eastern coast. We flew to Latrobe Valley for a break and refuel and then continued over open water to Flinders Island. The flight over the ocean was interesting, but the landing on the Flinders Island was a super exciting ending of this part of the journey. Lots of wind and turbulence and a great learning experience. This video is the part 2 of our Cessnock to Launceston trip.

Just fly direct from YMER or YMCO…no East Sale to worry about, cuts 80 mile off the trip and there’s a bucket load of rigs en route = helicopters. Whoever thinks you can swim to Deal or Dover Island in typical Bass Strait weather, have to be kiddin. Oh, just wear them life jackets ! Personally, I wear a dry suit and carry a raft, plus engage Flight Following 👍

We had vest belts and I requested flight following. This was my first trip out that way, so I just flew the recommended route. I do realise that I would not be able to land on any of those little islands, but it kind of makes sense that if I needed to ditch in the water, it would have been safer to do closer to any land.
Creepy music and annoying passenger 🤣 who the hel referring others as idiot before understanding the situation
