****Some things I want to include that were not mentioned in the video:
1. Lice can hold their breath (close up their airways) for up to eight hours.
2. Lice can only live up to 48 hours without a host to feed off of.
3. The Airelle’ heat treatment was $139 ( she took off $10 because she was not able to comb through my hair with the dimithicone to get most of the nit/eggs out which is included in the package). It includes a follow up.
4. The cost of the prescription Spinosad was $10
5. The cost of the Over the Counter Nix was $40
6. As of today, I still cover my head with scarves or head wraps when going out…also while indoors (I have HIHS).
7. I still check my head in the mirror or when I’m in good sunlight. Especially if I get an itch outside, I get anxiety about something in my hair.
8. My husband is getting weary of my OCD with taking out the eggs.
9. I did put mayonnaise over the nix treatment on Monday and left that on for about 3 hours. I didn’t know that lice could hold their breath for longer than that when I was doing that first treatment.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!! I am a 2nd grade teacher as well. I have had microlocs for 2 1/2 years. I have recently contracted lice . Never been through this in all my 43 years. I did everything you suggested. I even drove 2hrs. to Lice Centers OF AMERICA and used SPINOSAD. I am currently approaching week 3 . I haven't seen any live bugs. BUT....I am constantly finding nits stuck to my locs. I mean there are tons of them but they arekee. ead. My question is ...did you keep finding dead nits in the loc? There are so many that I have thought about cutting my locs. Please respond. I would love to hear your update. Thanks so much.

Hi!! Thank goodness you started your treatment!! Yes, I continued to see the dead eggs on my strands for a while. I had my husband take as much out from the back where I couldn’t see. He took out as he could and I took care of my front, top, and sides. I would look at my locs every day and when I say every day, I mean EVERY day And pull those dead eggs out of my strands because they were stuck on them. I did end up messing some of my locs up but my loctician repaired them. My head also was itching for weeks after they were gone because I had PTSD from it and from all the treatments….seriously, my mind was THAT messed up. So I totally understand your mindset. But you’re doing everything right. Keep checking for live lice or nits…after about 4-6 weeks of my checking and nothing new occurred is when I stop checking every day…then I would check my locs a few times a week. I had a lot of them as well. After a few months, some hair washes, and a few reties later I didn’t see them anymore. This month will be a year since I found out I had them and I haven’t had an attack (knock on wood) but I’m STILL diligent in keeping my hair up, spraying my locs with my essential oil spray and I check my sons head as well. Please keep me posted on how you are coping🥹❤️🙏🏾

Thank you for such a quick response! I went to Lice Centers OF AMERICA this morning for a follow-up. There were no new eggs or lice found. Thank God! This has been such a hard journey. Your video has truly kept me from losing my mind . I have played it numerous times just to have encouragement. I am continually checking my hair daily. Also I plan to keep my hair moisturized and my scalp oiled. For some reason I thought that when you have locs you don't have to do ANYTHING to your hair. NOT TRUE. I have learned that lice loves the dry hair. Maybe this will help someone. Again, thanks so much for your transparency.

I am a former teacher and there was an outbreak of lice in my classroom. Oddly, none of the Black kids had lice but at least 9 of my other students had them. I didn’t have them, but it was very traumatic for me too. I cut my hair and everything. My youngest child is leaving for college soon. All of my children (4) wear their hair in its natural state. I have SLs and my husband has traditional locks. I honestly thought this issue was something we never have to worry about. Thanks for the information. I’m happy your loved ones supported your decision to share. 5:21

Hey girl! There has been 1 case of head lice since the time I’ve been working with children, and that was earlier in my career, so it wasn’t even on my radar. We’ve had a lot of bedbug cases, which is a whole other stressor 😩 I thought I would never have to worry about this stuff either, but now, it’s all I’m constantly thinking about. I start back Aug. 22 and students come back a week after so I’m super worried 😩yes, most definitely have your youngest be diligent and aware of not bringing these pests home and Congratulations on your baby going to College!!! that’s a huge and beautiful milestone 🎉🥹❤️❤️❤️ I appreciate you!!

Black people generally don’t get lice as the lice species in Western countries don’t attach well in coil hair. We do however have our type which you see in Africa they look different Since we’ve stopped perming our hair which wiped out much of our lice, species, we’re gradually gonna see a return.

Lena! First of all, I am so glad you shared this experience with us! You are going to help people here and now and also in the future! Kudos to you for that. Secondly, I'm so sorry you went through this. I know how horrifying it is to deal with unwelcome creatures. Lastly, the grid looks so good! Shout out to your loctician for getting you back together and not shunning you. We could use a lot more people like her in this world. Again, welcome back. You were missed.

Thank you so so so much for this video. I am on day 9 after discovering i had lice, and I used most of your steps. Thanks for modeling how to advocate for yourself re: getting a stronger prescription. I would have settled for the over the counter medication if you had not pointed out that the Nix did not kill the eggs. My experience with Lice Clinics of America was so pleasant, and I am glad I enlisted the help of professionals, because I was getting dispirited from thinking about cutting my two year old sisterlocks. I am working on getting a prescription from my doctor for Spinosad, and the itching has subsided considerably. I hope in just a short time I can say with confidence I am lice free. This was an isolating journey to be on as a black person with black hair, so thank you for creating this video to help me know I am not gross, alone, and I can get out of this situation.

I’m a lice technician and I have sister locks…. Baby when I tell u just thinking about lice will cause ur head to itch. Lice do not discriminate on skin color or hair texture. They can smell the scalp and move accordingly to get what they want. I will say that kinky hair is harder for lice to navigate due to the coils but they still can feed and lay nits if u have 1/4th of an inch of hair. Lice can be mistaken for other hair conditions tho like DEC plugs, dandruff, eczema, psoriasis etc… if it falls out your hair it’s most likely not nits. Nits are glued to the hair strand and have to be removed using a terminator comb designed for lice and nits. They resemble the color of your hair and the size of a poppy seed so it is hard to see unless you know what ur looking for. All the other hair conditions are lighter in color like off white or gray. Nits take a week to hatch and another week to be able to lay their own nits. It’s is true, you need to smoother the lice with olive oil or oil of some sort to smoother lice. They can hold their breath for 6hrs, so leaving it in for 8hrs will do the job. Will not kill nits which is why the comb I mentioned pulls them out. Heat does kill them but have to hold it on your hair for at least 20mins. The oils she mention is a natural repellent. If your concerned about lice/nits treating your hair and keeping it in a tight bun or braids help keep lice for being able to move around your head and lay nits to individual strands in your hair. They do move pretty fast and Cannot fly. I did not know about the neem oil since my job tells techs to use olive oil since most ppl have that in their home. Dawn is the soap we use to clean the hair of any oil after 1st comb thru. Client is left with olive oil drenching their hair as my final step and is recommended to leave in for 8hrs(usually while sleeping). They would then reapply on days 2,3,9,16 if less than 15 are found. If more than 15 an extra 2days is recommended making it days 2,3,6,9,12 &16. The house visit of the tech is day 1, they do the other 4days or 6 depending on severity. (Nits take two weeks to re-infest). Use ur repellent if ur worried about getting it or wanting to keep it away like she so perfectly mentioned.

Can you try to have your doctor prescribe Spinosad? it is a pesticide, but I really believe that that was what killed the lice AND eggs. keep doing what you’re doing by checking every couple of days for Re-infestation. Also, your scalp may still feel itchy AFTER they have all been eradicated due to the treatments you were putting in your hair. please keep me posted on how you’re doing🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️

The smell was not pleasant but it wasn't my biggest worry. Because I knew that I couldn't comb the nits out, the idea of drying them to a crisp really appealed to me. When my husband showed me the roasted nits and bugs, it reassured me that even if they were not all removed they were still dead and I could move on. Those results pushed me through. I too hope none of our families ever get lice again.

Oh Leelee! I’m so sorry, girl! It’s a total mind f*ck!!! You said you just started his locs, are you going to comb them out for treatment? Can you have his pediatrician prescribe Spinosad? That stuff REALLY worked to kill them. It is a pesticide, so that is something to think about. Or you can use the Neem oil. Be VIGILANT and check his head every other day. I’m praying that you get this taken care of! Also, check your hair and anyone else’s that lives in the household. You may want to start treatment just to be proactive. Praying for you and if you can, keep me posted🙏🏾❤️

Great video! Thank you so much for sharing. Neem oil also gets rid of bed bugs. The same connotation people have about lice, they have about bed bugs, so I get it. I’m also an educator with sisterlocks, but I always use Tea Tree and/or Peppermint oil in my spray bottle as a hair refresher and slight moisturizer. I also use Dr. Bronner’s Tea Tree or Peppermint shampoo. Your hair came out beautifully and you should be proud of yourself and the job you and your loctician did on your hair. Stay blessed and beautiful. 😊 Sidenote: I must say, I like that evidence-based paper on lice! Research is important and it educates us.

Thank you so much for sharing this education. About 2 years ago my grandson had locs and had lice. I didn't know what to do or what i was looking at. I did a ton of research!!! There wasn't much info out there. So i combine a few things that i researched. I combined a mixture of apple cider vinegar and salt in a spray bottle, drenched his hair with that, then drenched with a combo of olive oil and tea tree oil, plastic cap, let that sit for an hr. Shampooed, then blow dryed on high heat. After that i slathered mayo, Olive oil and tea tree, plastic cap for 9 hrs (i read somewhere that live can hold their breath for 8 hrs... don't know if it's true). Then i shampooed again and oiled his hair with olive oil and tea tree mixture. 3 days after that i did the process all over again. I continued to check for a few weeks and all was good. Very tedious process and it caused his scalp and locs to be extremely dry. I know this is long but again that's why I'm thanking you for putting this info out. I didn't think black people could get lice either until my grandson had them. I will be getting the products you suggested bc i have microlocs.

Hey Ms. Angel!! I know it was so stressful trying to get rid of those things!! It seems like you did an excellent job killing them off🙏🏾I also used Mayonnaise (I put it in on top of the nix shampoo) I left it on for a couple hours, this was before I knew (as you stated) that they can hold their breath for up to 8 hours!!! You definitely have to be diligent about doing the treatments to get rid of them, put thank goodness it possible to do so without having to cut our locs!! I appreciate you so much!!!🥰❤️❤️❤️

I haven't had to deal with lice, but I have kids and will be prepared to handle it if it ever happened. I would also consider using diatomaceous earth, bentonite clay, and any mucilagenous herb (aloe, okra, ambunu etc) to help everything slip out.

Oh Amber I’m so sorry that you guys are going thru this. Can you try to use Neem oil or have their pediatrician prescribe the Spinosad? I believe those are what really helped to kill the adults AND eggs and keep them away. You have to be diligent in checking every few days after treatment and repeating treatment every 7-10 days until you don’t see anymore live lice. There will still be eggs on the strands because the lice use a special kind of glue that they make to help the egg stick onto the strand. So I picked as much as I could (my husband helped) out of my locs…it’s a tiring process and I was STILL finding dead eggs (VERY few) in my locs up until about 2 months ago. I know I don’t have them any more. But I STILL check from time to time and I always use my spray. Please keep me posted if you can. Praying that you guys get through this swiftly and they NEVER come back 🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️

Hey Zee!! It was a very traumatizing experience…looking back on it, I may have overreacted, but I’d never experienced anything like that before and I’ve always heard that you need to cut your hair (which is why we cut our son’s hair). I figured it was no big deal because he was a boy and his hair would grow back pretty quickly …but he was so upset😔and I feel bad looking back on it because I didn’t take his feelings into account…but when it happened to ME I was freaking out because I thought I had to cut MY hair and I was trying to find every solution under the sun rather than cutting my hair… I should have had that same energy for my son’s hair like I did my own….buuuut, he hasn’t spent over 2k+ on his hair, lol🤷🏾‍♀️😆 I appreciate you for commenting ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you for sharing. So basically, because you can't use the comb on locs you had to just go through and pick everything out one by one?

Hey!! you are very welcome!! Yep, the eggs are stuck onto your individual hair strands. when the adult female lice lays her egg (very near to the scalp) she makes and uses a type of glue to attach her eggs to your strand. the reason why it was easy for me to get the dead eggs off was because they were attached to strands of new growth. They were not INSIDE my locs or going down the length of my locs (remember, they lay their eggs closest to your scalp for the warmth). So you can’t just flick the eggs off, you have to grab them off or slide them down the hair strand. this cause thinning in my locs because I was panicking and grabbing strands that the egg/s weren’t on. they are so small that it’s hard to see. Also, the eggs look similar to the white hair bulbs 😩😩 so you have to REALLY be careful and figure out the difference between a lice egg, hair bulb, dandruff, or plain ol’ dirt. I appreciate you for commenting ❤️❤️❤️

I figured kids were involved, lol. I was taught Black people get lice far less often because of hair grease/oil, that lice prefer dry hair, like wytpipo's. You and your hair are stunningly beautiful.

How many drops neem oil did you use per oz?

Hey! I tried to put no more than four drops per ounce of neem oil in my shampoo. If you’re making a DIY hairspray, then Id use no more than 1-2 drops per ounce, due to the strong smell… you can use the essential oils to help offset the smell. However, if someone has lice, then you’d want to really soak the Neem oil in the scalp and down the hair shaft a few inches. I hope this helps and I appreciate you❤️❤️❤️

I use to also think that it only came from Caucasian people. When I was in elementary school I went to a predominantly Caucasian school.

I don’t know where to look to see what should be added to the spray bottle of water and the essential oils. I hate to ask, but not sure where to find your other video that gives that bit f info.

Hey girl!! I used a mixture of peppermint, tea tree, rosemary, cedar wood, lavender, and thyme essential oils. There’s a website called Eden’s Garden that has a mixture of all of those oils and it’s beautifully blended and smell good. I put a few drop in my spray bottle along with an emulsifier (this is to help mix the oils and waters together, the video I did on that is called “You’re Making your DIY hairspray Wrong if you Don’t Include This One Ingredient”). I never know my people got lice? Is it a hygiene thing? Are people not washing their scalp enough or the fake hair before install? Is it because people keeping the lol too long.

Hi Mrs. Sparkle! I didn’t know we got lice either…. Until I got them😩 I don’t believe it’s a hygiene thing in most cases. I mean, I don’t consider myself dirty and I ended up getting them, smh😆 They are just highly contagious and very pesky. Believe it or not, lice like clean hair, they don’t like dirty hair or a dirty scalp. Not properly washing fake hair before the install could definitely give you lice if there was an infestation in the hair. I appreciate you so much for stopping by and commenting ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
