@@Vizehmaybe so, it seems like a big issue in England where not only do you have practically EVERY fan of big teams arguing constantly about what team/ players are better ( look at Enzo) but you also have the media constantly yelling at them for one bad game. The pressure is immense. I mean compare him to Anthony. Him being British only makes it worse in my opinion. It’s okay that he isn’t cr7 but not for united fans. He is a victim of racism, hype and simply being someone who doesn’t meet the expectations put on him. The mental aspects of the game are too often ignored, but there is absolutely no way he isn’t suffering in some way from the constant abuse and criticism. Many players could only dream of even having those expectations put on them.

I feel like this happends to too many United players, take Lukaku for example. He was great for Everton, but as soon as United signed him he dropped form. Now Rashford is still very good as a player, and there is no denying that, he was the sole reason why United finished in a champions league spot. Lately he hasn't been in from but that happens to all players, like Haaland at the end of last season. It's just a matter of time to where he finds his for again and proves all his haters wrong. Marcus Rashford has done many great things on and off the pitch, he is a philanthropist and a great footballer and it takes a lot to be that. Whatever the reason is, I hope it gets resolved.

In my opinion, Rashford seems to be struggling on a mental level, not a physical one; this isn't to take away from any injuries or fatigue. But there's a phenomenon known as decision fatigue, when a person has to make too many decisions over a given period, ultimately reducing their ability to make good ones. And given that he is Marcus Rashford MBE, a social hero, and a fighter for the little guy - all great things, but also all things that need a lot of willpower to ensure an image is kept to. To not let your team down, to not let your fans down, to not let the people who hail you as a hero down. This kind of thing will catch up to anyone and everyone - notice how people elected as Prime Minister or President age a lot faster once elected. The number of decisions made by anyone in a given amount of time starts to affect areas of our lives we wouldn't expect it to - ageing, hygiene, dress. Not to sound all doom and gloom, but he's essentially a victim of his fantastic work ethic. I'm pretty sure if he stepped away from the spotlight for a full year, he'd be back to the Rashford we all remember banging in goals for fun.

All you’ve spewed is a bunch of nostalgic words to showcase the infatuation with Rashford. Man Utd’s biggest problem is the fans like this: you’d rather keep a guy who is inconsistent, hides behind his PR when he is not performing and not good enough, just because he’s manc born and bred. But if he was portuguese/french/south American, you’d call for him to be sold. Quit being a nostalgia merchant and actually think about what’s best for the club

City fan here. Rashford is a great player and an even better person. When he was introduced with the crop of teenage talent that van Gaal was trying out, I could see that he was a whole head above the others. I think that his downfall has to do with the fact that he is so overly nice that it's to a fault. The United managers all seemed to have had their way with him, playing him out of position, and rushing him back from injuries, and he hasn't even mentioned at least that he's feeling uncomfortable. If he had expressed his concerns, he would probably be in a better place now.

Fellow City fan but United has to have something wrong in its management and no this has nothing to do with Ten Hag I actually like him. I think the whole club has just been missing since say 2013. Every signing from 2014 onward are great players objectively like Di Maria, Zlatan,Paul Pogba,Rashford,Lukaku, Cristiano Ronaldo and even managers like Jose Mourinho. These on paper, would absolutely show results and they did but for only a very short period of time then they nosedive in quality and always eventually leave. As soon as they leave, they always win something or score an insane amount of goals that they were supposed to do at Utd. These people all have something in common specifically, and that is downtalking United. Every single galactico signing stated has always said some very monumental bad things about the club and they always sound very similar (most notably Lukaku,Di Maria, and Cristiano Ronaldo). They all mention how badly run the whole club is and how run down all the equipment is. They also always have problems with the staff in power. Kicking out a certain manager or owner wont fix the club, at this point the only thing that could be done is revamping the whole thing.

@@Vizeh To be fair, my point was more along the lines of him showing signs of being a pushover, no disrespect to him of course. He's far from being the only player at any club to be mismanaged, but the majority of players either voice their dissent or quietly hand in a transfer request. I think he must have not been taught how to say 'no' at a young age. I speak from experience here, as my work frequently takes advantage of me resulting in me being burnt out most of the time. The same thing could be happening to him.

If anything, they are a bit selfish in most cases. However, they are fearless; you can just see it in their eyes. They give off that fearless vibe and seem to be unfazed by criticism. Rashford can be great in a few games, but if he misses a few big chances, his confidence hits rock bottom immediately in the next few matches, which leaves him unsure about when to pass and when to shoot."

One thing that I will say, and that you touched on: Rashford will finally have a number 9 (Højlund) up front with him who will be here for the foreseeable future (hopefully) and with whom Rashford will be able to build some serious chemistry. Even this season I've seen it develop slowly as they get used to each other. Fortunately for Rashford, a big part of Højlund's game is not only that he can hold the ball up or run in behind well, but he's already proving to be very good at link up play, and with time that will benefit them both, especially Rashford. I'm optimistic that as Rashford and Højlund build chemistry together, it will help them both immensely.

I understand that twitter is a thing and that he is mocked on twitter but i feel that meme isnt the best term to describe him. Pogba is a meme, Maguire has become a meme and mcTominay is a meme but rashford feels more like a tragedy. To me he is the victim of both hype and circumstances. I feel his confidence has taken a hit over the years as the years went on and his goals became less and less. He's more of a fallen hero. Its tragic because he has talent but the confidence and mindset isn't there. I feel for him and hope he returns to form one way or another.

I can understand that, tragedy would for me only relate to if he wasn't playing football at all, the best example at United would be Martial in that regard for me

@Vizeh you are right, a tragedy would be more fitting to martial(what a wast of talent). Now that you mentioned it Rashford is a victim of the pressure being at a club like man united not long after Fergie left when there were expectations. I've got many words to describe man united.

Rashford is one of this generations “what if” players, got bags of talent and when he’s in form he’s a world class player but his problem is he is wildly inconsistent…I think he’s 100% a confidence player, one or two bad games and he tries to massively overcompensate by trying to do it alone which then leads to more poor performances and damaging his confidence even more…but he has two good games in a row, he’ll keep going and going

Nice piece to support Rashford but most fans are not against him as a person but are frustrated with the favouritism he enjoys at the club! There are whispers about a clause in his contract making him unstoppable and pressure from above insisting he must play if fit etc! For his sake, the clubs sake and the managers sake, Rashford should be dropped for at least 5-7 games and come on for 15-25 minutes as a sub! Sometimes when on the bench you notice things on the pitch better and you can see what you should be doing better when you come on!Also is it a coincidence that his form has dropped drastically after getting a fat contract? I think fans first of all just need to realise this is his 7th season and he is not a youth anymore! He has been playing top level football at a big club for 6 or more seasons and if he has not become consistent and learnt the basics by now, will it ever happen? I think he is a good player to be a squad player but he is not elite!Elite players have a dip for some weeks and they are back and can be consistent season after season!Rashford has a 3 month purple patch in a season and so he is not that guy! He has had opportunities afforded to him because he is an academy player and he has taken them to be fair! DePay was shipped out, Lukaku was shipped out, Young left, Valencia left etc Martial has been as bad but he does not get as much patience and is injury prone! If he is not dropped for better in form players now, a lot of fans would not mind if he is sold for 60-80M and we get a replacement! Auba , Sanches, and Ozil suffered a dip in form after fat contracts instead of fat contracts making them step up their game! Rashford should be playing now like a player who wants to be paid 500-600K, so that 1 year into his deal, the club wants to sit down with him to discuss new terms! That is how elite players react to a bump in pay instead of the club 2 months into a new contract wondering if they acted too soon and jumped the gun in offering him those terms!

Others have touched upon this but I think this definitely links to just a wider problem at United in general. Far too many players over the years, either being really promising prospects or reknowed really good players, have come to the club and either struggled or flopped completely. It points to some sort of a toxic environment or general bad club management, but it certainly shows united is not in a good place. When you get so many good players struggling to perform, it really does point to a rotten ecosystem within the club.

When you have a club with a pattern of decline like Meme United's where good and great players are either inconsistent or arrive and lose their form then it's hard to think it is the player's fault. There has to be something fundamentally wrong with the structure of management and ownership

He just has the odd purple patch every now and again. People gas him up because he does community work. They were wanking themselves silly about this time last year when he hit a run of form (kinda like Aaron Ramsey about a decade or so ago). He stank up the world cup in Qatar and has continued that trend ever since.

He needs to be coached properly. He has missed that developmental part of his game after being thrust in the first team so young. Yes he did well when he started, and still does that in patches. But his game needs so much more development. His decision making on and off the ball is not great, which is why when he does not score or assist, he does not affect the game and it just passes him by. Last year he was doing well, now with Rasmus Hojlund in the team, the dynamics have changed and he is struggling to adapt to this change. I hope as the season goes on, he receives the coaching and starts developing into the player with the potential everyone can see.
