From Going Around to a Safe Landing! Flight Simulator Tutorial

Ойындар

A Go Around is a well trained and practiced manoeuvre, but what do we do next? In this video I'll guide you through the Go Around and then take you through the steps to follow afterwards. This includes re setting up the FMGC/MCDU, how to decide where to go and how much fuel you'll need!

I am a real world Airbus pilot with thousands of hours flying the real aircraft and thought it would be fun to have a look at the detailed simulations of the 'bus in MSFS and X Plane. Hopefully you find this useful and it brings another perspective to your simulation. Any thoughts or comments are welcome!

In normal conditions you wouldn't need to use Reverse Thrusters as they are mostly ineffective on a dry runway. A lot of the time you just engage reverse and sit at reverse Idle.

Landing distance calculations with no non normals don't give reverse thrust any credit afaik. It's always a conservative calculation. You simply decide how hot you want the brakes

Missed approach guidance is not currently in the FBW so you would have to fly it manually using VOR radials. Really adds so much to the workload at such a heavy time anyway. If I was on VATSIM in the FBW, I would inform the tower when on the ILS that I would need vectors for the missed approach. Trying to fly it from nav data may be impossible and if not, certainly would be very very difficult with one pilot.

Watching this video after flying from KSLC to KPDX yesterday and had absolutely no visibility at the minimums due to heavy fog coming into KPDX. First time Ive actually had that in the sim. Was not ready for a go around, and quickly experienced why its important to plan ahead…lol. I managed to make due and get the aircraft back to another approach, but it was an “ugly” process. Did manage to land safely though.

Hello, First of all thank you for all your awesome videos, it helps a lot. I came across a situation last time I flew. Indeed, I unfortunately pushed my throttle to TOGA just after take off and put it right away to where it should have been meaning CLIMB as indicated. The problem is that the Airbus started the Go Around procedure as my PERF page displayed. Is there any way to cancel a Go Around procedure or force set the CLIMB or any other step we are in a flight? The question goes also if we activate the APPROACH phase and to early and wants to cancel it.

Is it the same in case of issue with the plane after take off. When you need to come back to the departure airport ? You juste set the departure airport as the destination and follow an approche ? It could be also interesting to see what is going on in case of rejected take off. Is the airplane managing the break and reverse ? and what the pilot should do? Thanks 320 Sim Pilot for you always interesting explanation.

The real meat of this video was what happened after the go-around . . . and that was a subject really well covered and for me, the most interesting part. However, to be honest, I never seem to be able to do an ILS approach like this one with the FMGC fully dotted! I always end up selecting the final approach, flaps FULL speed in the SPD window! Tried setting it all up for an automated approach but it just does not seem to work and I guess I haven't figured it out yet. So - what is the procedure to carry out a go-around from this position? Obviously I'm at flaps FULL and let's say my final approach speed is 145 knots (selected in the SPD window) with the aircraft currently flying an ILS in managed mode with the two autopilots engaged? And let's say at 1000 feet, I call stable and disconnect the auto-flight system at 800 feet and I'm manual. How would you carry out a go-around from this configuration? I would really like to see how this is done from this part of the flight where you are essentially hand flying the last part of the approach and are then forced to go-around. Thanks for all the great knowledge you freely give to us. Lee

fenix hasn't done a good job of following speed for a while now; on take off i always have to manually manage the speed pulling it back to 240 or so before it busts through 250..does it every single time.. like up to 260 or more. And my go arounds are usually due to a bad bounce on landing 😱 Thanks for the video!!

Same procedure. You would just follow the flight director (which would go to the new modes once man toga selected) and engage autopilot when you could. If the flight directors are off, they should come back on when man toga selected with the thrust levers.

perfect timing. I had to go around last night due to the plane losing the glideslope in FLL of all places with 1/4 visibiliy in the FBW A32NX....and thats when it got really bad. Plane was overspeeding. I couldnt get the autopilot to re engage again. Part of me thinks it was a bug because the autothrottle was working but the altitude wouldnt. I also had never gone around before so the plane wasnt prepped for anything. My workload skyrocketed, I lost situational awareness and was busy trying to fight with the autopilot while still trying to reprogram the MCDU for another ILS approach. I eventually got on the ground and was able to fly the glideslop manually but the entire ordeal wasnt pretty

Went to perform the go-around but the route was showing as a dotted line as I had already turned off AP. Turned AP back on but no dice, what do I do in that situation? Second time today where a runway didn't exist, even though ILS does. Frustrating.

Another facinating and well explained video that I really enjoyed. One question, suppose there will be strong headwinds to your alternate. I guess (do not know) that these will not be known to the aircraft at least initially but it will be important to add this information before finalising fuel calculations and making a diversion decision?

  • @PianoLearnerChannel

    @PianoLearnerChannel

    Жыл бұрын

The original flightplanners would factor the weather enroute and also at the alternate. So the fuelplan would at least cover going to the planned alternate including the wind en-route. As for the pilots selecting a new alternate, yes its a good point you make the weather enroute and weather at the new airport are a big factor and would need to be told to the aircraft in the new flightplan. You can add winds aloft easily enough into any flight plan, and if it shows that you efob is too low you'll need plan c

Brilliant video as always! There is so much more to think about then just circle back around and landing, so many factors and variables to consider. On a flight back in July we had a go around due to an aircraft not vacating the runway in time, it was great to experience also the FO was fantastic with communicating about what was going on and reassuring those passengers who were apprehensive about what had just happened. Learnt a lot but that’s standard from 320SimPilot. True professional 👍
