I had to do a full reno on my condo after a tenant destroyed it (surprise: it was a family member we were cutting a deal for because they were going through a difficult time!). It was difficult to find a contractor to do it because there is more demand than supply. So my husband got a membership at the tool library and did a lot of the non-specialist stuff himself. We had to also buy all new appliances as the others were destroyed. Brutal! It goes on the market next week and that cash is going to get sunk into maximizing the kid's RESPs and padding our TFSAs before my husband retires (as soon as we can make it happen - but hopefully March!).

Renting can be so challenging. I'm sorry to hear that it happened at all, but that it was family makes it harder. One of the reasons we are thinking of selling the house completely. We no longer want the hassle, and to be honest, if we come back to Canada,we most likely would live outside of Toronto...so not much point in keeping it really. And AMAZING that your husband can almost retire! I hear March is a fantastic month to retire 😉😉

I'm on my financial independence journey living with a disability I started with $0 assets, and a negative net worth in 2017. Filed a consumer proposal in 2019 Plus I have the huge weight obstacle of being eligible for Ontario Disability Support Program, then I got lucky and become approved for the disability tax credit. Congrats you are millionaires it will take my entire working life to maybe get to $250,000 more if I can magically increase my income and keep my consumer debt to $0.

@@FIREWeGo We are moving out West to Vancouver Island :) I've had enough of the snow here. We have had rental houses in the past, made money on one, but sold last one too early (a few months ago) as we knew we wanted to move, so sold it as soon as tenant was moving out, so sadly didn't make money on that one. We are planning to buy a house to live in, but also buy a duplex separate house to rent out as well...will see as prices are so high out there. But now thinking our main home should have a basement rental unit as well. Ok, I have mutual funds which include stocks, but didn't know what dividend stocks are. Congrats 👏 👏 🎉😊!!! You Guys Rock! 💪✨️💥🔥. Having increased your assets over half million dollars in just a few short years is amazing 🔥. This video is full of great info. Yes knowing your net worth is very very important in my opinion too. And guess what your assets will just continue to go up over time. I absolutely enjoyed this video. I can't wait for the next one and yes please do one on your rental ok. I watched the video 2X and I saw a lot of similar to my financial journey. I want to share some of my experiences with you. My husband and I purchased our first rental in 2019. At that point we still hadn't been introduced to FIRE yet. Then COVID-19 hit us. Then of course we was locked down and we had the time to talk to our friend and watch KZread. Our friend introduced us to FIRE 🔥 and then we did a little research on it and I definitely decided this was for me. My husband wasn't too sure about it then lol😅. So as time went on we added more rental properties and then the market went crazy. So we was fortunate enough to get those rentals when we could. My only Big Regret is that I didn't start purchasing sooner. So I feel like I really lost out on some really big gains because of not knowing and acting sooner. My husband and I began investing in the stock market around this time too. We threw as much as we could in there, again finding out about all this financial investing late. I am also a Veteran so I also have that retirement money coming in. I use to work and in December 2023, I also said goodbye to my job. I know what helped me quit my job at age 48 years old was living abroad, rentals, retirement income and savings. I am so thankful for you guys putting these kind of videos out letting folks know that retiring early is an option but one needs to save and invest. One must know their net worth and FIRE 🔥 number.
