I’m a convert from Methodist to Catholic myself. The thing I find interesting, is the move from say, Baptist, to Presbyterian, to Lutheran, to Anglican, and finally accepting Catholic. This seems to kind of be the reverse of those that moved away from from the Universal Church

I definitely resonate with Brantley. I'm still in process. I also have a soon-to-be-fiance to consider. We're both Lutheran. Please pray for me as I continue to study this out. I agree that the Papacy is the lunchpin. God bless you, Brantley...especially being down South (I am in FL).

Religion cannot save us.. Relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ, accepting him as our Lord and savior of our life is the most important thing in this life. The problem with the catholics, they have lots of idols in their church.. If the priests are really reading the Bible they should know exodus 20:4-5 "Do not make for yourselves of anything in heaven or on earth or in the water under the earth. Do not bow down to any idol or worship it, because I am the Lord your God and I tolerate no rivals. I bring punishment on those who hate me and on their descendants down to the third and fourth generation.

The problem of your interpretation of the Commandment is that: 1. Just five chapters later, God Himself commanded the making of cherubim at the Holy of Holies, the central place of worship in the tent of meeting. The temple was also designed with parts resembling plants, lions and bulls, including the bronze sea. Graven images can be found in the Jews' place of liturgical worship, and is a big contradiction in God's part if He means the Commandment as you interpret it to mean. If these things are insignificant to the worship of God, these need not be commanded by God at all. Abraham was okay with that. But in Exodus onwards, it is not the case. This images are to be always seen as Israel is commanded to worship only at the temple and nowhere else; 2. The same can be said of the Bronze Serpent; and there is a clear difference between its use in Numbers as a means by God to channel his grace, and in the time of kings where Hezekiah disposed of it as it was treated as a god with its own name. Therefore, making images and attributing acts of honor to which they represent is not the prohibition, but the treatment of the images in themselves as the end of the act. 3. If you still insist on the prohibition of making any image representing a creature or created thing, then any form of representative art must be condemned. Josephus the 1st century historian notes that Judas Maccabbees ordered the destruction of the Golden Eagle of Rome which has no particular use except as a mark of Romes territorial jurisdiction upon Israel, out of fear for the Commandment of God. In that case, any form of art made for whatever purpose should be prohibited based on your interpretation of the Commandment. Drawing anything at all in art class will then be a sin; 4. If any act of honor really is ptohibited, then you should refrain from showing honor for other objects representing things other than God. A classic example is honor given to a flag representive of a country. One must respect the flag, not allowing it to touch the ground, and must be burned when disposed. If you are a Jehovah's witness, then you are consistent with your view. Otherwise, the standard you hold is selective to your preference. Let me know your thoughts.

"They have lots of idols." Let me ask you: does your church have a bulletin? How about pews or chairs? Get rid of them because they aren't in the Bible. You see where I'm going with this. Not everything is explicitly spelled out in detail, so there is a certain "by good and necessary consequence" that must occur when teasing out passages of Scripture. You may want to repent of your statement or implication that "Catholics worship idols." That simply isn't the case. Just like when you respect your parents, and pay homage to them, you aren't worshipping them. Same thing here. Don't you think Catholics are aware of these things? Of course they are. If you really want to defeat Catholicism with good argumentation, this isn't one of them. I can take it down in 3 seconds flat. And I am not even Catholic, but am Lutheran. Maybe be more careful in your sweeping assertions - you just indirectly gave an offense to over 1 billion Catholics.

@myeiles cope- your religion IS your relationship with Jesus. Regarding religious art, or idols as you call it, check it out: Deuteronomy 4 Moses is teaching the Israelites it is because they don't know what God looks like, as He took no form for them and He didn't want them to dream up some image to represent Him. It was not a prohibition against making graven images of any kind and since God became incarnate in Jesus and Jesus is the image of God (Col 1:15 ) we no longer believe we are beholden to not represent God in religious art. If you think that isn't right, let me ask you why, then, did God have the Israelites make the brazen snake image to heal snakebit people? Num 21:8. And God said they would be healed if they just look at it. And why did Jesus compare His crucifixion to the snake, indicating it was a prefigurement of His saving work? Jn 3:14 - 15. At some point the Israelites began to worship the brazen snake so the king had it destroyed. Today, it would be just as wrong to worship a statue or making an idol of it. Has that ever happened? I'd guess it probably has but it is still wrong and no good reason to ban religious art.
