The one advantage among many of Joburg for a person with continental interest like you is that it is in the center of other African great cities. Apart from Cape town and Durban you are in a striking distance of these great Southern Africa capitals cities Port Louis, Mauritius, Maputo, Mozambique, Gaborone Botswana, Harare Zimbabwe, Lusaka Zambia Namibia Windhoek and Antananarivo Madagascar . Also, I'm not sure if you've covered finances, but there's another mom traveler and when she got into how she was affording travel w/3 kids -- she was receiving military disability monthly and significant child support. You can still bank with other banks but you'll need to have a FNB online profile in order to do that.. I'm assuming that's bc FNB monopolised that agreement with PayPal?? I dunno..
