    Does anyone else feel like this is show saying goodbye to the audience? Particularly "I don't want you to be sad. The time we had together, we stole. I cheated fate to be with you, and we shouldn't have had that time together, but we did." Anyone who has followed the show's ratings know it shouldn't have survived for 5 seasons, but it did. It appeared to be destined to be cancelling. We were always on 'stolen time'. I love you Fringe, you are my favourite thing.

    John Noble is a master of his craft. Probably the finest actor to star in a science fiction show. He grounds everything to reality, believable in every emotion, down to the most subtle facial expression. Absolutely criminal that his perfomance in this show is underappreciated and overlooked to this day. Hopefully, in time, he gets the credit and recognition he deserves.

    Few things can make me sob like I do when I watch this scene, partly because I feel the message on the video is not just for Peter but for us fans- Walter saying goodbye to ALL of us who love him dearly, and a reminder that despite the sadness we feel about losing him (and Fringe) forever, we were enjoying these moments on stolen time- it seemed impossible that we'd have a 5th season to wrap things up, but we did, and we were blessed to have this extra time with the family we've grown to love.

    Absolutely the best father/son moment ever put to film! Outstanding show. Brilliantly cast. Excellently perfect writing. John Noble is simply amazing and easily one of my favorite actors. This entire TV series role, the way he portrays it, along with this scene from the show's ending, could not have been done as eloquently or perfectly as Mr. Noble played it. He was certainly born to play Walter Bishop. Perfect actor to a perfect role.

    The entire cast of this show is fantastic, but John Noble as Walter Bishop is simply *chef's kiss*. As much as I love Anna Torv as Olivia and Joshua Jackson as Peter, this show simply wouldn't be as fantastic as it is without Walter's eccentric personality and the way he and Peter play off each other. (And we, of course, get a taste of just how different Walter would have been without Peter in season 4). This scene personifies everything that is great about John Noble's brilliant acting, as well as the immense love he and Peter share. The way Peter went from not even wanting to hear his father's name in the first episode, to "I love you, Dad" at the end is pure perfection. Beautiful character growth, beautiful acting. Thank you, Fringe, for 5 wonderful seasons!

    Just my opinion, but I think it also didn't help that the first two seasons had alot of procedural episodes. So there wasn't "as much" of a story to keep the viewers hooked. By the time the story became more serialized, viewer ratings had dropped.

  • @holyfuckwhy

    @holyfuckwhy

    @@johnnymike8971 not exactly, more like the show became more serialized WHEN the ratings dropped. Basically, Fox changed the airing day from Thursday to Friday and let the creators do whatever they want. I still remember it clear, it was like that S1: Aired on Mondays after American Idol i.e. ratings are huge S2: Moved to Thursday against a huge competition (The Office, Grey's Anatomy aired on Thursday), starts to day S3: Starts on Thursdays, moved to Fridays after a couple episodes, I remember the creators saying it was a good thing, because they can do what they want now. The show lived on Friday until its finale.

    The most powerful thing about this scene is how Peter, ever the wise-cracking smart ass, just goes silent and starts crying. He knows, there is nothing he could possibly say that would either change the course of events, or completely compensate his father for the sacrifice he is about to make, it evokes a deep instinct that I think only a father could understand, or, at best, the son of a long suffering father, could understand. My reasoning is that I had to watch my father lose my mother to pancreatic cancer. After 28 years of marriage, my father has always been a rock, a completely immoveable object, and watching him fall to his knees and weep beside my mother is something that will haunt me for the rest of my life. It hurt to lose my mother, but to see what it did to my father hurt as much if not more. I know that if he could have, he would have moved heaven and Earth to trade places with her, and would have been happy to do so. Not for his own sake but for his wife, and myself and my sister, to spare us the pain, at least according to his own judgement. He was never perfect, but he has always put the rest of us first. Maybe this is just weepy emotional nonsense, but all I can say is hug your parents folks. You only get so much time with them and when they're gone you're left with more questions than answers, and a hole in your very soul. When they are there for you, they always leave such enormous footprints to fill.

    I just finished watching the entire series for the second time last night. I sat stunned and dazed after this last episode was over. It punches me right in the guts every time.

    @@hayleygirl67 Isn't it great how you notice so many more things when you rewatch it? There's an observer in every episode. It's fun looking for them. The glyphs of the hand, apple, seahorse etc are a code and spell out a word in each episode. And watching Peter and Olivia's friendship blossom into romance is one of my favorite things. But Walter and his love for his son is by far my favorite thing about the show. So heartbreaking and wonderful.

    @@BeingBetter I knew about the glyphs about halfway through the original air. I would be there with my giant laptop and the cypher trying to figure out what it spelled lol. I love looking for the observers, but yes Walter and Peter's relationship is def the best to watch. It's just so good - and then when Walternate comes in too. Ughhh what a twist!

    Three sons. Remember, this Walter lived through the timeline where both Peter's died. He only was given memories by Michael of that other timeline, but the lived memories weren't erased (Unlike Olivia, whose memories were supplanted).

    I think they filmed it from the first take, because when John got up, he touched something and there was that loud sound, but they weren't stopped. And, apparently, then they decided to leave that sound.

    доктор бишоп единственный, неповторимый, очаровательный классный. мне было очень жаль расставаться с ним. самый лучший сериал в америке и самый непопулярный. мне очень очень жаль тех кто там живет. видимо деградация цветет во всем своем великолоепии. очень очень жаль, когда римская империя пала тоже комуто было жаль наверное
