Frigidaire ice maker making ice slowly or not making ice at all fix Part 2

This is part 2 to my previous video on fixing your ice makers. If all my previous tips didn't work this latest one should really help increase the amount of ice your icemaker is producing. If you didn’t watch my original video please watch it by clicking below.

You gotta be kidding me. I changed the freezer from 0 to 2 degrees for 24 hours. (I thought that’s the temp you changed in the first video)Then set it back to 0. The following day ice is completely full…. Packed to the top, and we use ice. Dam…. You attack things like I do…lol. Hats off, worked great between the two. I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t happy to think I was going to have a repair on my 1 month old fridge.

Neither would I, and the sad thing is Frigidaire support wasn’t very good at helping with troubleshooting. Instead they sent out someone who took it apart only for the problem to still continue after!

Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks. I have had so many issues with my ice maker. I also have a Frigidaire, like the one in the video. First it was the water fill tube freezing (right where the water flows down into the fridge through the top of the fridge) every 1-2 weeks. To properly defrost that tube, you have to disassemble and remove almost the entire ice maker assembly to get the big housing out of the way. I got pretty quick at doing that. Then I found a solution - put a couple thin rolls of paper or padding between the top of the fridge and the ice maker assembly housing. Put them on either side of the where the water comes out at the top of the fridge (front and back). This creates a small gap above the housing that allows the warmer fridge air to circulate and I haven't had it freeze up in months. For several months it has been making making ice at a slow but reasonable speed, but a couple days ago it suddenly started making ice super slowly and our ice bin is basically empty. There is ice in the cube making tray and the water flows, but it just doesn't seem to dump the ice and start the next batch. I am now trying all your tricks. I increased the speed it makes ice (I didn't know I could change that). It was set to 1 and now it is on 3. I am also trying the 0F / 2F trick to see if that helps. It was already on 0F for ice and 38F for fridge, so now I am trying the 2F for 24 hours trick that others have said works. I'm crossing my fingers that when I put it back to 0F Ill start to get ice again.

We changed the water filter and that was the issue. It restricts the flow of water that’s not making any ice.

My problem has been that my icemaker simply doesn’t drop the ice when it’s done freezing. It seems to just hold onto the ice for hours unnecessarily. I’m gonna try everything that you’ve posted to see if I can’t get this thing producing ice in a reasonable amount of time. one thing I can’t figure out is how does the refrigerator know when the ice tray is full? I haven’t been able to find any device that would play a part in that process. My other question is, how does the refrigerator know when to drop the ice? In other words, how does the refrigerator know how long it takes for the ice cubes to become solid so it can then drop them?

Truthfully I don’t really know, I could only assume there is something there that checks the temperature and once it gets cold enough then it knows when to drop the ice. Sorry I couldn’t have a better answer then that :( Please don’t forget to subscribe, we are only 2 away from 1000 subscribers!

Has anyone had the issue of the water line freezing yet? Mine seems to be freezing where the water comes into the top of the ice maker. I've kept my temps warmer but I'll try this 0 and 38 to see what it does. The ice making/dispensing system on these Frigidaire units leaves a lot to be desired!

@@CravingSolutions Yes, it did help. However, I finally had to replace the ice maker fill tube on mine. The service tech said they updated the filler tube with insulation to keep it from freezing. Seems to work better now.

I dont know what the hell is wrong with mine, I have the exact same fridge. Freezer is 0, Fridge is 37, and my ice tray is always 15-17 degrees. Ice barely trickles out. Thanks for your last video so I could actually see some of the more advanced settings.

Hi Todd, I think 32 is to cold. It’s possibly contributing to the ice maker lines freezing. I would try thawing everything out using the defrost and a blow dryer as I showed. Make sure everything melts. Then turn it back on but with freezer at zero and refrigerator at 38.

Don’t know why anyone would run the fridge at 40 degrees anyways unless you only keep produce in it.

  • @jamesm.8392

IMO . . . your frig seems to be too tightly stuffed into the space you have it in and therefore it cannot breath & provide enough air for circulation / proper operation. Also, the LESS food you keep in you frig the better it will perform by providing max circulation . . . fact . . . when one side struggles the other side will too.
