Many years ago, I worked for a games company in Dundee and lived there for quite a while. I used to play music and playing things like open mic nights was a regular thing at the time. It's how I met people. One night, I played at a "Yellow Bar" (I forget the name it had at the time, it's changed a few times over the years). Anywho. One night I met this bloke after he played his set after me at a planned night. It wasn't busy. But this man played this song he called "My Backwards Walk" as his opener. I was transfixed. He played a few other tracks, each sang with such melancholy and sadness, anyone that was listening was enamored. Anyway we drank and chatted for hours after and for the next while he'd let me know when he was coming to Dundee and would get me a spot on the lineup for the night etc. I got to know the arrangements for a few of his songs, etc. This man wrote and performed with so much pain in his soul, but by day he was joyful and supportive. But the drink was always there. Anyone that paid any attention to him knew he was a tortured genius. It oozes out of every pore of the music he's created. After a while the calls/messages stopped and it was simply because he'd made it. He outgrew his familiar Scottish circuit - and even the UK scene. I never heard from him again, but followed his success and loved his music. I still watch this video every once and a while - it's the closest recording I've ever found to how he used to play it live. This planet lost a seriously beautiful individual. Thanks for those memories Scott and I'm sure there's thousands more of them out there, held vividly in the minds of people that were lucky enough to have met you.
Theres no way Im forgetting you.
I feel like I have been almost numb for 3 years. I basically quit listening to music after Scott's passing. I am finally trying to process my grief. While i never had a one on one conversation with Scott his music has touched me more than he can ever know. I hope that wherever he is now that he is free from the pain that his music helped me deal with and I hope he knows how much he meant to all of his fans. I will never forget him.

I thought the same then listened to the interview where he said the older songs don't mean anything to him anymore. Thought that was compelling.
I never had the privilege of listening to him perform live, although I was at a music festival where he was booked. (I have no recollection or proof I heard their set, so I cannot count it.) Every time I go to Glasgow I listen to this song over and over and over and over and over and over. And cry.
I never really understood my older friends being so sad of losing Kurt. ..well I do understand them now..

This song made tiny changes to my earth. Thank you. I'm sorry you had to leave us early.
Will never forget this guy and Frightened Rabbit, amazing performance and an amazing band. Will always come back.
Scott's music helped me through so much. He is one of the purest souls and I am grateful that I can experience his music. My backwards walk and Modern Leper are two beautiful songs of pure pain made majestic. RIP Scott 🙌
Bloody love this song. Rest easy Scott.

Me too. I've watched this countless times and always feel like that guy looks.
Only got into Frightened Rabbit after Scott’s death unfortunately so I’ll never have the pleasure of experiencing their tunes live. What a beautiful song this is though, he means every word and I feel where he’s coming from having made that ‘backwards walk’ myself on many occasions and I’d still make it today if my ex had any interest. There’s no way I’m forgetting this...RIP big man
R.I.P. You beautiful man you felt you had to leave so you opened the door and walked through it. But your music is so pure and honest the legacy of your music you have left behind is immense you were a beautful soul. But you are now singing on a higher plane and I am sure that the Angels will love it as we have. So sing sing sing you beautiful man we will meet again one day xxxx.

Didn't hear this song until yesterday... then I learned about Scott. Such beautiful lyrics, and I'm sorry that the world lost another beautiful artist. I will spread this music
Listened to a bunch of stuff on KZread by FR today and for some reason just started crying my eyes out during this one. Never met the man, but damn, we lost a good one. I'm sorry to all those who knew him and more to the many who loved him. I will try to do more for those who suffer from depression and anxiety. I promise.

The man could write such "simple" songs that can quickly launch you back to a veeery specific time/relationship/whatever..There's such a brilliance in that.
You will be so missed.

I'm still grieving. I'm not sure if it will ever stop; I've never been one to process pain. He did dedicate a song to me and my fiance that one time in Edinburgh tho.
I never heard of your band until this year. I was listening to your songs and was so impressed with every album then I heard you were dead and now every song I listen to that is by you, it hits so much cos it's so honest, pure and true. I really hope you're a good place. I really do. Rest in peace Scott.
Goodnight Scott, cant believe you are gone x
As the time rewinds to the start of May, I wish we never lost our Scott that day.
as long as there's a way to play his music he'll never be forgotten.
Love you Scott. The world is less of place without you.
ive literally watched every video on youtube that has scott in it and i still feel like i dont have enough of him. i have never met this man but his death is still hurting in 2022 and i think about him more than anyone else.
Can’t believe I just started listening to them about 6 months ago. Now, I can’t stop listening. Rest well mate.
name 3 better lyricists or song writers in the last 30 years...so underrated..miss you bud
One of, if not the best failed relationship songs. I miss you buddy-sometimes we are too close to the fire to survive it
What a beautiful soul you were sir
I'm 56 now and have always loved and passionately followed new music, good music and continue to do so. No matter how much shit music is around, and there's been alot over the past decade, there are still discoveries awaiting. (Pls check out my YT Best of 2023 Playlist). So when I encountered FR in 2008 at the age of 41 it was clear that this was a band of unique talent and songwriting craftsmanship. With every subsequent album, it was apparent it was no fluke. Unlike most bands Frightened Rabbit delivered album after album of fantastic, heart wrenching songs. Come 2018, it all took on a new meaning that none of us wanted. In a way, it's quite beautiful to see comments from people who only discovered them/Scott after his passing but it doesnt matter in the end. We connect to the music, which is incredible in all it's arrangements, and to his lyrics. It's a combination of both. His talent was amazing. A true poet and I really believe, a genius. I was born in the late 60's and grew up on 60's music thanks to my father but still listened to new music as it occurred. I have followed every genre though every decade and loved the 70's, 80's 90's and yet FR remains one of my favourite artists, up there with 90's Radiohead and the Beatles. However, I think Scott is probably the greatest songwriter of them all. No one has written about anguish and with such eloquence as he has. I've no doubt that the audience will grow but its up to us to help spread the word. He deserved to be recognised as a true artist in his lifetime and it wasnt forthcoming. Not in the way he deserved. He's the Bowie, the Lennon of the 21st century. We will never forget. (I highly recommend the two books released so far on Scotts work).
RIP Scott you will be sadly missed by all
I will never forget seeing them live. One of my all-time favorite bands and concerts
Gone, but never forgotten. You changed my life Scotty!
Thanks, man. So much left behind. You're not forgotten.
You will be missed so much Scott. Rest in Peace.
Cheers, Scott. So grateful for you.
One month later and I still can't listen to this without crying. It was the song that made me fall in love with this band. RIP, Scott.
Im still gutted. I wish I knew him. I wish I had words. He was pure.
Painfully and dearly missed. Such a huge talent, I hope he is now at peace.
See frightened rabbit support biffy at Royal Albert Hall in London was a fan instantly sadly only saw them once more in Norwich gutted Rip Scott
Rest in peace and love, Scott. Tears.. I had never seen this one before
Rest easy brother. Forever in our hearts.
Dearly missed. Great music and what a voice!
I'm working on my backwards walk Walking with no shoes or socks And when the time rewinds to the end of May I wish we'd never met, then met today I'm working on my faults and cracks Filling in the blanks and gaps And when I write them out they don't make sense I need you to pencil in the rest I'm working on drawing a straight line And I'll draw until I get one right It's bold and dark girl, can't you see I done drawn a line between you and me I'm working on erasing you Just don't have the proper tools I get hammered, forget that you exist There's no way I'm forgetting this I'm working hard on walking out Shoes keep sticking to the ground My clothes won't let me close the door Cause the trousers seem to love your floor I been working on my backwards walk There's nowhere else for me to go Except back to you just one last time Say yes before I change my mind Say yes before I You're the shit and I'm knee-deep in it You're the shit and I'm knee-deep in it, you're You're the shit and I'm knee-deep in it You're the shit and I'm knee-deep in it, you're You're the shit and I'm knee-deep in it You're the shit and I'm knee-deep in it, you're You're the shit and I'm knee-deep in it You're the shit and I'm knee-deep in it, you're
This and everything else .. before and after 🙏🏻
