I really love how Frieren builds up characters /as characters/ before showing us how badass etc they are. It really makes these scenes feel earned, and be so much more impactful.

Same with Stark! They didn't just immediately tell us he's the strongest, they demonstrated it.

Funny enough the show is called "Frieren the Slayer". Well, the original title is "Frieren at the funeral", but because of how japanese grammar works it can be read as "Frieren who cause the funeral" aka "Frieren the Slayer" :)

In this anime's setting "humanity" refer to all humanoid races aside from demons which are monster (the difference being how their body disperse into magic particle upon death), that's why Draht refer to "humanity's magic" even though he's speaking to an elf.

we see derpy, endearing grandma/baby frieren from the first few eps... but seeing this side of frieren for the first time gave me goosebumps.

Frieren The Slayer is the actual name of this show.

Yeah, the reveal in the manga when folks were told that Sousou no Frieren meant Frieren the Slayer a title given to her by the demon race and not Funeral Frieren as folks originally thought was a mindblower. Brilliant writing that got lost in translation in English.

What a shame! Good to know though, Funeral Frieren doesn't sound as cool, but accurate if she's just attending all the people she ever knew at their funerals 😭

I would note that Frieren might be only known as Slayer only to the demons ... Also in episode 6 Frieren was trying to avoid drawing attention to herself before being found out and given a parade Plus it's been 78-80 years since The Hero's Party slew the Demon King

The Slayer title might just be amongst demons as a warning to stay away from her. Similar to Goblin Slayer where he's their bogeyman in goblin culture.

Himmel had so many statues made not because he didn't want his memory to fad from Frieren's heart, but to keep their memory alive amongst the world so she wouldn't be alone with their memory. It's been 80 years since they killed the Demon King and nearly 30 since the death of Himmel. In a couple more generations, all of that would have faded into legends and folk tales. But those statues keep their memory grounded and reminds people that they were real and actually existed and in so doing keeps Frieren connected to the world. Also, Zoltraak _is_ ordinary offensive magic for humans now. That was the whole point of the Qual episode and the reason Lugner hates Frieren so much. She helped humanity take a devastatingly powerful spell that Qual had been perfecting for centuries and turned it into entry level magic that is taught to children in a couple of decades.

I'm glad to see you back doing this kind of content.
