Once you reach a certain age, especially once you start having a family, friendships tend to diminish in importance and drift apart. I don't know about you but my parents have never really had friends that they saw regularly when I was growing up.

I think that's been an aspect sometimes for adults, especially older ones, but I think this was perhaps something that varied more from person-to-person based on life circumstances. However, what we're seeing now is a growing trend in perhaps as early as childhood (just speculating there, haven't looked into that), definitely teen years and young adult years. My understanding is that it's unprecedented, how far it's been ramping up as of late.

People don't want to watch shows that are a true reflection of their lives, they want to experience something BIGGER than their life.
