That's not true! I live in Bari (South-Italy) and when I was a kid, my mother used to say "vaffanapoli" in stead of "vaffanculo" cos' she didn't want me to memorize bad words.. and I remember that all my classamates used the same words too!

The phrase had nothing to do with it. It's the sound of the language. They didn't even know what he said. It has little to do with nationality, it's considered a desirable language to listen to by most non-Italian speakers.

WOW it sounds so strange to listen to a show in the original language and the listen to some words in my language, it sounds funny ahahah

You know if theres one thing I wish happened in Friends, its that Joey spoke Italian more. I loved that he spoke Italian to his nana for those few seconds and I just whish that he spoke Italian more in the show. Like that episode when he found out his dad was seeing someone other then his mum and was making all that sauce. I would have loved that during his ranting to Chandler, he automatically started speaking Italian. It would have made the scene really funny because Chandler would have had to come in like "Joe! I get that you're upset...but I can't understand you at the best of times. How do expect me to know what you're saying when you're speaking Italian?" And Joey would have just nodded with a quite apology. There are other scenes too where they could have slipped in him speaking Italian too and I'm just sad they didn't do that.

For the Italian broadcasting, Paolo was translated as Pablo, for us (in Italy) was a Spanish guy! ahahah!

In moltissime lingue si usa la parola "bravo" soltanto al maschile, per complimentarsi con qualcuno, così come si usa anche "maestro" ovviamente viene pronunciato con accento inglese in questo caso perché fa parte del vocabolario inglese, quindi quella scena non è propriamente adatta a questo video, come la nostra abat-jour o bidet, sono francesi ma fanno parte del vocabolario italiano e le diciamo non accento italiano

joey con quel "vaffanapoli" ha acquisito ancora di più il mio amore eterno.

Bravo is used, as you rightly said, in opera to make appreciation, because BRAVO in the Italian language means good, skillfull, capable, while "BRAVE" is more like intrepid, which is closer to the spanish BRAVO. In my opinion the italian definition in this contest, is more appropriate. Moreover in latin "pravus" had a meaning which was not that good, the italians adopted its good acceptation while spanish its rough ones

Vyse220 I think she says: "Lei sibalina", but in italian it means nothing.
