Friedman BE OD Overdrive Pedal - does the Gain Trim pot make a difference?

Музыка

For my Presets visit: johnnathancordy.gumroad.com/ This pedal is kind of nuts. The gain knob, even all the way down has more gain than most pedals I've played. As it turns out, the GAIN TRIM pot inside the pedal can have a drastic effect on the whole vibe of the pedal.
Iridium is on the ROUND setting.

My favorite drive pedal. I noticed setting trim pot low not only reduces gain also makes tone more warmer and mellow. Very versatile pedal. You can play everything with it from soft blues to modern metal.

Well you absolutely helped fall in love with this pedal. Some many other annoying reviews of guys just shredding with maxed gain...not helpful at all. This is the best review of this pedal. Also love your tone!

Jay Parmar has a handful of videos featuring the BE-OD demonstrating versatility of tone (gain levels) that may be helpful as well. I picked up the tip to drill a hole above the trim pot for easy access from him. Cheers, kzread.info/dash/bejne/qHx8zpNsfKfUprg.html

Dude, thank you for your time. This was the best demo of this pedal I’ve seen on the Internet. Everyone just maxing out the gain but that internal trim pot is the key. Fantastic tones keep it up. Thank you again. My only question is, how does it sound live in a band situation, does it get lost, or can you get it to fill out its space

I just picked up a used Deluxe 2 channel version of this pedal. I literally laughed out loud at the available gain, even on the low gain channel. I definitely had to open it up and adjust the two gain pots to get it more in my taste territory. Unusually versatile frankly and so far I'm loving it.

I just got mine a few days ago and feel the same way lol I want channel B to be my high gain channel but I may need to trim a bit back on channel A. But overall, I’ve been very impressed! Even the pull offs with the Be OD Deluxe are so easy with the low gain settings!

A brilliant video that’s answered the one overarching question I’ve had about the BE OD, which was how low gain can it go should I want to stack it with a Klon rather than just obliterate everything with lashings of distortion? Thanks for demonstrating the gain flexibility that this pedal offers Johnnathan and a big thumbs up from me!

I have no idea why this trimpot is on the inside of the pedal - it's easily the most powerful control on the whole pedal!

@@johnnathancordyI totally agree! And that they haven’t accommodated an external way to alter the baseline gain setting on pedals that have come out after the BE OD eg BE OD Deluxe, Dirty Shirley etc is baffling. Still, they make fantastic Marshall type pedals so, internal trim pot misstep aside, there’s so much to love about the Friedman pedal range. Thanks again for this video and wishing you well too, Johnnarhan😊👊

I am having great success with this pedal by turning the trim down as you did but also running a bb preamp before it with the output DOWN. It makes the lead tone just soooo nice and much more dynamic. I wonder where this gain adjustment knob sits in the gain staging as this pedal seems to really like low input signals. Great demo!

The trim pot is a variable resistor. The more you turn it the more gain. It makes sense if making a clone, to just connect a pot and put in on the outside of the pedal so you can set the overall type of gain level . I'm going to build a clone myself so I'll try it out.

@@johnnathancordy Interestingly, the internal gain pot does way more than the external pot. I always wished the internal pot was on the top. It would make the pedal way more versatile in the gain range. From stock JCM800 to really hot-rodded.

Pedal sounds a LOT better with the gain pot turned down... I'd probably like it best with the gain pot turned to it's minimum setting. Sounds like you can still dial in plenty of gain using the gain control on the pedal.

  • @yves78

I thought I would like the minimum gain settings but found it lost something, like it blended in too much clean signal. What I found best was having the trim pot about 9 o’clock and running the pedal at 18v which gave it more headroom and sounded way more amp like.

Just to be totally honest not many Tele players buy a distortion pedal. A clean boost or a tube screamer at the most. But this does show this pedal is a beast if it can make a single coil sound like that. Nice demonstration.
