I like to think the reason why Boyfriend cannot die canonically is because we (the player) are the ones he represents in the game. As a direct result, if we do not wish for Boyfriend to "die", we simply repeat the song until he is successful. Like we simply... reset the timeline to the beginning of the song we died at until we successfully pass it. Starecrown is simply another opponent for us (the player) to face, but the noticeable difference is that Starecrown KNOWS that Boyfriend is just a proxy. He knows that he can kill Boyfriend but nothing will happen since we are the actual ones in control of Boyfriend's fate. This is probably why he doesn't do anything for a long time, because he knows nothing he does will actually have an effect. He also knows that he cannot do anything to us (the player), so the best he can do is simply acknowledge that "Hey, I know this runt is just a stand-in. I know you are there". But thats what I like to tell myself about a game about pressing a button when two things line up.

The thing is , Starecrown is the most UNIQUE character ever in FNF history , you want to know why? Also i will be calling Starecrown as SC for a while. its because that he stares at YOU in his FIRST encounter , and when boyfriend starts to sing looks at boyfriend , you might think , what do you mean by YOU. i mean by YOU , the player , SC knows that theres a player controlling Boyfriend , so that means that when he wants to kill you , he literally wants to kill BF and not let you play FNF anymore. He's So strong that he bends the physics of the GAME , have you seen his icon in his first encounter? most icons stare at the other , but SC stares AT YOU in his icon , he has BASICALLY tore the fabrics of the FNF space time to make YOU feel uncomfortable.
